You have to use the Hill Start brake, think it’s L2 from memory on ps controller. Hold it in, put throttle into 3/4 and release the button when you hear the revs and it should move forward. It’s quite a steep incline there.
Just ran this, it’s a 170 in the snow on the 1/70 gradient at North Queensferry. If you go from brake notch 2 to power 3 really quick it will roll back but then engage power and you are away. If you’re too slow it will roll back too fast and the transmission will disengage. Had the same problem with a class 158 at the same station in the same conditions. It seems once you roll back too fast whilst taking power the simulation won’t recover (fails the transmission?) and you are stuck waiting for a push!! Yes there is a hill hold button for the 170 (L2 as stated in a previous post) but you should be able to start without it. For the 158 my post below explains how bad it can get. Hope you were able to finish emptying those rubbish bags.
If your wanting to drive as realistically as possible.... Class 170 - regardless of weather conditions or gradient, you would use the hillstart button, take 3 notches of power and once you hear the engines spool up sufficiently you release the hillstart. Class 158 - take brake down to step 1, 3 notches of power and again on hearing the engines spooling up sufficiently, release the brake fully.
Luckily in TSW, no one says anything or penalises you for a slight roll back. If we ever (unlikely) got the Central Wales Line in TSW, starting away from Cynghordy is on something like a 1 in 55 gradient. Nicely challenging with a 153.
I do try and drive realistically but it seems as though once you do get it wrong the sim then prevents you from getting it right, essentially failing the unit.
Since the route has come out over 2 years ago now. What do people think of the Fife Circle. it was atrocious when it first released. But it’s definitely had a decent upgrade since though there is still room for more improvement. Personally I feel it’s enjoyable now compared to what it used to be however I really wished they had done better with the timetable. It’s not what it should be…. Timetable really needs some good work done to it.
I liked it to begin with and it’s had huge improvements since launch. Shame we don’t have a unified timetable as both (recently updated) versions of the timetables have their pros and cons. Hopefully the once mooted but now seemingly cancelled Scotrail HSTs make an appearance at some point as they’re such a common sight on it in real life. Just looks odd using the GWE ones.
It’s ok, it’s my local route so I probably see more issues than others will. It badly needs a revisit of the timetable as neither are all that accurate to real life. There has also been changes so that services now go to Leven via both lines so adding those would also increase variety. Also still some annoying issues like incorrect pis, starting position at leven, as well as announcements missing from 158, missing signals and some scenery issues. Really hope we eventually see the ScotRail HST and a more polished timetable alongside it, way better than it was on release but has so much potential to be a great route.
Copying the bi-mode IETs from GWE and adding LNER livery and interiors feel like a moderately quick win. Failing that, use the GBR one, it might convince more people to buy it.
I wonder if the ScotRail HST has gone the way of the class 104. Surely it should have appeared on a roadmap by now. I hope it does appear. However I don't think I feel the desire to play this route despite it's potential. Both timetables seem inadequate which is frustrating.
