That's it. I'm done. I was going to order TSW7 deluxe this week, but now I'm not. I have had enough of spending money on a product which not only releases full of bugs, but then never gets fixed. I have invested hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours in this game going back to TSW1, bought just about every DLC, contributed well over 10k posts to this forum (and not a few liveries to CC), but-- I'M OUT. The quality control is simply unacceptable. I'm sick of playing the DTG slot machine. Count me as a former customer and community member, driven away by DTG's lackadaisical approach to QC
What set this off? And might it be worth waiting until the formal release to see what we actually get?
Sorry to hear that mate. You have always been one of the best contributors in the forum and I enjoyed reading many of your posts. Hope you will be back at some point.
Sorry to see you go, you're one of the grounded members over here :/ I wonder what prompted your decision.
At least do what I am and grab the free version, see how it rocks with the existing content. Or just stay with TSW6 albeit with the knowledge from 15th September there will be no more support, not even outstanding content fixes. The core package this year is of little interest to me but there are some promising 3P items in the pipeline - the TSG steam route, the new Dutch route, the Romanian project. Oh and the DB 211. So all is not lost, just heavily triage and curate what you spend on the game.
Agreed, at most just grab the free one and just periodically check in to see if anything's different. (Not that I expect it to change)
I do respect your decision, however, I do hope you reconsider leaving this community for good! I, for one, have always valued your input on these forums and would like it to stay that way in the future as well. I think most of us (especially the ones being on here for longer) have been at similar points in our relationships (if you can call it that) with this game. It has always helped me to gain some distance from time to time and, indeed, not buying everything at the start. Like others have suggested, just get the free starter pack and observe from some distance for some time. I am sure there will be stuff coming that you will be able to enjoy as well. You have been here too long to just quit
Yes, this. Your sensible contributions on this forum would be missed, and you have nothing to lose picking up the free TSW7 starter pack, with no need to ever pay for anything again if you wish. I’ve not bought any DLC for ages in response to poor value for money and a lack of discounts on XBOX but I’m still enjoying playing what I bought previously and I’m betting you have a lot of stuff to play already.
The bugs can be very frustrating , and the time taken to fix things sometimes is an absolute joke! A few that bothered me previously , no passengers at Euston , the open back door bug on London commuter took years to fix! However I have noticed slow improvement, and despite the issues I think the dev team are committed to make things better! I would personally like more hot fixes , rather than waiting years/ months for a big update to fix something , and then after that big update , additional bugs created by the fix!! And then months to fix that and so on!
TSW6 was the first version that I waited for the 80% off sale, the only thing that might have tempted me to an early purchase this time is Freight Hauler, then I saw that wagon fly off the track at the end of the German preview and, yeah, maybe it will work properly by the time the big sales come around.
One of my favorite contributors leaving. I do hope you see some glimmer of hope to return at some point. This game does still offer me enough joy to outweigh the frustrations. But I can understand your feeling. You obviously have a deep knowledge of rail history and rightly have expectations that a game that calls itself a simulator would try to match that level of detail and accuracy with care and quality. For me it's the 3rd party community that has brought me back from the brink much more so than DTG's efforts. There are some stellar contributors out there and I find myself spending most of my time on their routes.
I will be sorry to see you go. As others have said, pick up the free version. If nothing else, you will get the updated NTP route and the extended Mildmay line when they come out.
Tadami I am still very sceptical about the quality, particularly the new train. The Portuguese route does not seem to be particularly imminent. Wouldn't be surprised if it's not next year.
i'm sure that after tadami we'll get the class 70 and (maybe) the mildmay extension somewhere between those two releases
The more I think about it the more this seems a curious time to be checking-out. I really didn't like TSW until the BML route came out. The quality wasn't great, the track didn't look good in the distance, trees popping-out right in front of you, no variation in the weather and most routes came with very little variation in AI traffic. I mostly stuck to TSC as it seemed to have more life to it. I bought TSW DLC because I could afford it at the time and thought building the collection as it was released would pay off in the long-term, which it has. Now we're getting excellent quality routes and traction, the lighting is the best it's ever been, most routes (especially WCML ones) have loads of variety and DTG continue to work on improving the whole experience. I've not touched TSC this year and have stopped buying DLC. I'll keep it there for now given the lack of GBR-Anglia area and Mk3 EMU content but my first choice for a drive has been TSW for a couple of years now.
If you don't like TSW anymore than go ahead and quit it. I basically left when Dovetail couldn't get the PC editor together and acted like the in-game tools (livery editor and consist editor) are the bigger deal. Ironically, it's first release was the best time ever as everyone was trying to figure things out and thought about what they could make.
I agree with the author that the game's problems are being ignored by the devs, who are need nothing but new routes and some tinsel(is it a right word?). TSW is a mountain which has a snowball of bugs rolling down of it. With the addition of every new DLC, every new feature, and every new number in the title, that snowball just keeps growing. Sooner or later, it will end with the snowball obscuring the mountain. It is unlikely to crush it, but who would want to climb a mountain with a giant snowball rolling down at them? The gaming industry has seen more than once how, thanks to the developers' efforts, poor-quality games turned into something actually quite good(like Cyberpunk 2077, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2). Will DTG be able to achieve the same result? We don't know, as they haven't even made an attempt.
Matt has just been talking at great lengths about how they are dealing with the blurry texture issues. That's a funny way of ignoring problems.
Oh, I can talk about anything. Will my chatter solve the problem? Maybe the problem with the blurry textures only came up yesterday, and they didn't have time to react to it? And what about the problems with passengers - that’s something new too, isn’t it? And was today the first time they found "out of memory" crash? I could go on about the AI getting stuck at random places, the audio stuttering, and the pile of bugs on various routes: from flying objects to signals that stay red forever.
I checked the OP's profile and they have made some posts after this one, but they're not gone completely. That said I do understand. I started a thread a few years ago that got a lot of traction at the time where I announced I had given up on TSW. I do still play it from time to time, but when I realised the game was going nowhere after the catastrophic Rush Hour update, I just stopped playing. The game I was sold on in 2018 never ended up existing, and nothing of any value has been added to the game since TSW3. And all the potentially good things are served with a load of LOVE on the side. The handling of the editor was pretty much the last straw for me. They launched it, barely supported it, then shot the chance of any third party developers taking it seriously in the face by banning anyone from selling content made in it. DTG know that the editor is what kept Train Simulator alive for so long, so their decision with TSW's is entirely because of greed. They wouldn't want AP or JustTrains releasing better content then their own without the ability to make money from it. Some developers were willing to sacrifice perhaps half of their revenue to DTG, but the majority of the smaller developers just aren't interested. For good reason. And of course there's DTG's generational fumbling of steam. Myself and people far more intelligent than I am have talked at length about all the issues with TSW's steam 'simulation', so there's no point covering it again. TSG is probably the developer with the best chance of making something good out of it. Their new route looks good and the stock looks great, but it lives and dies on the physics alone. I wish them the best, but I'm not holding out hope. At the end of the day, every time something nice comes out for TSW from a third party, the feeling that I can't get out of my head is how much nicer it would have been in Train Simulator. A new WCML Over Shap in TS with JT's scenery and AP's 86 and 87 would be epic. The TSG locos that haven't been done by Virtual Railroads would be lovely. And on, and on. There's no point playing a game that I just don't enjoy. I have 2,300 hours in TS, and 500 hours in TSW - the majority of which was from TSW 1 and 2. Maybe in another ten years there will be a real replacement for TS. I probably won't be there to see it, but we live in hope I guess. The blurry textures will never be fixed. They might help it a little, but DTG's lack of optimisation and the scope of routes getting bigger and bigger every time means that the any progress they make will almost immediately be undone. On PC the problem can the brute-forced with better hardware, but I can guarantee you that by the end of TSW's life it will still be an issue on consoles. I don't know where you are, but it could be a UK nanny-state thing. It doesn't show for me either.
As a console player this game can be so very frustrating especially - so it's good at times to have some space away from it to play other things. But, echoing others, there's nothing like TSW that has ever come close and I'm always back regardless as it still has given me so many years of enjoyment.
German route crashed to desktop twice, blurry textures, one of the features they said they'd fix in TSW5 wasn't fixed. Matt was quite embarrassed.
I’m in a pickle because I’ve been on console since the first TSW and I’ve got dlcs over the years spending hundreds to add to my collection. Coming up to TSW7, it did cross my mind that maybe I should start fresh on my PC. I’m new to PC, only had it for over a year, RTX 5070 Ryzen 5 7500F, runs very good and I love it, just need more storage but I’ll buy some in a few weeks. After speaking to my Tech colleague at work, I think I have decided that I am going to start fresh on PC before the end of the year, because of performance on consoles. It’s Ashame because I’ve spent so much money over the years on add ons but they are unplayable at times. Looks like I’ll be doing some overtime
You do get some pretty chunky discounts on Steam, so it probably won't cost as much as it did on console to get your collection back on console.
You do know that letting other people profit off your game without you seeing a penny is actually extremely rare, right? It would cost ten times the price and be even more creaky.
100% I’ve been loving steam! just got into ETS 2 like 2 months ago and got all the map expansions and a few mods already, loving the PC experience
I've got some stuff on TSC on Steam, a lot of routes near where I live, or where I've visited that aren't in TSW.
Steam is absolutely the way to go. Well, unless you're DTG and thinking about new routes and locos, apparently.
Yeah I migrated from Xbox to Steam after Vorarlberg came out, which was missing entire mountains (to free up some memory I guess). Haven't looked back. The game is dead on consoles.
I’m in the same position now! after TSW 3, I started falling out of “love” for the game/series as a whole, I started seeing the “repetitiveness” of it and just thought “why?”. I want this game to do well as it’s a unique experience id say in a way but they are really behind in some areas… PC will be my next step, already have it kinda planned out. Probably going to get another 2TB SSD, learn how to take my GPU out to insert my SSD, have my colleague do all the settings stuff as I don’t have a clue and deleting/moving files/games around then buy TSW7 again and the add ons of my choice. Luckily for me, I 90% play UK routes so it won’t be too hard and long to get my stuff back! new chapter ahead, looking forward to it!
There was a time when I purchased all UK DLC purely because it's UK. That time is now over, I've not purchased the GBR 802 or the class 90, and I won't unless improvements are made. It's incredibly doubtful I'll buy the ECML route that ATS are making, once bitten, twice shy etc etc. it's still weird that they haven't officially announced it's Peterborough to Kings Cross despite Peterborough being shown in some screenshots. My theory is that they'll announce it's too much work and money and cut the route short, possibly Stevenage. But if DTG and third parties want my money now, they have to show why they have earned it.
Seriously?! Please tell me they at least tested this on console prior to the live stream…. You’d have to assume they did otherwise it’s the height of idiocy. Hearing that one of the core routes is literally crashing to desktop on a live stream a few days before launch under what are presumably “ideal” conditions is such an epic fail. Having experienced performance issues and crashes with the game myself, I shouldn’t be surprised, but even so this is shocking.
A quick look at your profile and previous postings suggests you play on Xbox? If so, you shouldn't need to rebuy the game or DLC, as you can play your existing stuff on Xbox for Windows. Unless of course you would actively prefer to play on Steam (or Epic Games), in which case you would indeed need to rebuy.
