It's honestly getting to the point now where the sheer number of passengers and their crazy erratic and frankly effing infuriatingly annoying glitching on great routes like ECW and even Medway now is starting to seriously detract enjoyment from the game. There's not too much to shout about at times, but previously it seems you could at least enjoy the few decent routes out there in TSW. It's deteriorated so much though, that now the passenger volume and behaviours have become so glitched - I'm beginning to wish they would just disembark and instantly fade away, or just stay static on the platform. They are constantly blocking camera views so you can't even sit back and watch trains go by now, you can't get into the train if you need to, or they knock you off the platform. Now they're even glitching in a suicidal way launching themselves in front of the cab, which tbh is very disturbing. This needs sorting, urgently, it's another mess that is kicked down the road, again and again and again and again. If it's actually being sorted in TSW7, fine. But I have NO faith at all it will be, none
Passenger improvements has been stated for TSW7 but nothing said specifically about behaviour and the lack of coverage this got in the livestreams tells me very little has changed, if anything at all unfortunately. I couldn’t care less what they look like or what clothes they’re wearing, I just want them to enter and exit stations/trains properly, stop wandering around the like zombies, walking on the tracks and catapulting 50 feet in the air.
I think DTG spend too much time worrying about what they’re wearing, what gimmicky things they’re holding (laptops/umbrellas/phones etc) & their poses. I couldn’t care less how they look, frankly I’d take the low poly TSC models. I just want more of them, actually getting on & off trains. Not ‘oh he’s working on his laptop’ and others committing suicide by train. Their behaviours range from poor to completely unacceptable. I’m absolutely in favour of cutting back their quality & pumping up their numbers. At the very least their pathing & behaviour needs completely rebuilding.
Yes completely agree. DTG seems to focus on the wrong type of improvements. Clothes, laptops, chatting on phones doesn’t add to immersion and I think they underestimate how much value a decent passenger system would add.
And then there's the "running to/from depot with passengers" issue. How hard is it to code a service flag that disables rendering of passengers?
Fully agree an instant patch or anything that can stop them throwing themselves in front of your train needs addressing. It is disturbing, and I kid you not it leaves you feeling uneasy especially at speed. Having been personally affected by a one under in a previous profession doesn't help much either. The biggest gripe is when 30 disembark and spend 5 minutes glitching bumping into each other or spinning round in circles - I was guarding a 313 this morning on an Eastbourne to Brighton run, and couldn't even get onto the platform.
We have the options of spawning empty or loaded, I agree at the end point, the game should change the service to empty from loaded even if it means we need to select "change to empty" via a pop up menu, such as the "are you giving up control" banner
At some stations they get off the train and then just stand there. Stratford (un-)International immediately springs to mind, plus I think it happens on a couple on Euston Milton Keynes too
Yep, Berwick too on ECW. Always broken. On the flip side at Thornton Heath on BML, the doors don't even open PS "Stratford Un-International" made me chuckle
DTG made a big announcement about having addressed the issue of passengers in TSW 7, but to be honest, when you watch the live streams, you don’t notice any difference at all. And I agree that we need to put a stop to passengers appearing on the tracks or running onto them. As soon as I see something like that, it gives me a really strange feeling, because I’ve actually experienced it in real life, so something like that certainly shouldn’t happen in a game that has no age rating. And the fact that not all passengers get off at the terminus, meaning you end up driving the empty train back to the depot, surely can’t be that difficult to fix.
Not sure if I'm imagining things but I'd think passenger behavior even got worse over time. Can't remember so many on-track incidents 2 or 3 years ago. If it's thaaaat difficult to fix, they should probably do a transitional quick-fix and instant-despawn NPCs touching the tracks or something. I could imagine (potential) contractors reeeeaaaly don't like to see this stuff.
I've noticed WCMLS still has issues with passengers wandering onto the line from the platform that your train is due to stop at/pass through. Probably not ideal. I'm aware there is going to be no other implication other then the AI passenger 'ghost' through my train, but it's still not a pleasant experience and can still catch you by surprise. I'm hoping we get some more clarification on the improvements to passenger behaviour for TSW7.
OK. Think Matt just said on the live stream (In the period the game crashed his Xbox a couple of minutes into the 1st run) that the passenger improvements is actually just one bug fix. It has to do with the dioramas causing the number of passengers at the stations to reduce over time. If this is the case it's got to be false advertising
the question just came up on the live - improvements made, but I think Matt showed his exasperation for the issue in his reply
I have raised this issue in another thread, but it has been completely ignored. On the WCMLS route, the depot shutter remains closed, making it impossible to ever clear the scenario (in Timetable Mode). - There is a serious bug regarding passenger behavior at Harrow Station (three passengers stuck in mid-air... all day long). This appeared after the June update (and there has been no word on a fix). Regarding the passengers, it is not a matter of the issue having "no impact on gameplay" (the thought of a person-vs-train accident makes it deeply unpleasant). I believe it is unacceptable for this to remain unfixed by the time TSW7 is released. I feel terrible for users who might purchase this route in the future. It is difficult for the Steam version to accumulate a representative collection of user reviews. For me personally, TSW is the first railway-themed title where I have experienced a person-vs-train accident. I sincerely hope they quickly fix this issue, as it involves a feature that otherwise has great potential.
Matt clarified in the US stream that "improved passengers" actually means that they resolved one ticket where in very specific conditions passengers wouldn't spawn.
Why they keep doing this "raising expectations" that then turn out to be (almost) nothing burgers is beyond me.
In Subway Sim 2, passengers get on the train and off at stations and even the last stop. They had an update where they actually run to the train as well. I don't understand why DTG doesn't improve passengers after all this time. You can be doing a service out of Penn station or London Euston during rush hour and the train is completely empty which is unrealistic
For the ultimate freaky effect, just try sitting in a seat then waiting for a passenger to sit in the same seat, your screen basically becomes an eyeball Here's a suggestion for a simple and very quick fix, if the carriage/saloon lights are "on" then have passengers visible, if they are "off" then they are not. That should solve the issues of passengers being on ECS's when they shouldn't be and if need be remove the boarding/alighting and just have them milling around on platforms.
