    Guys,

Lots of new options here in TSW7 & I'm not really sure what to use to optimize my experience based on the hardware I have.

    A quick refresh:
    5800X3D with 32GB of RAM
    Sapphire OC'd 7800XT 16GB at 2560x1440 @ 144hz
Main OS & TSW7 both on NVMe drives

I used to run JetWash's display mod with everything else on 'Ultra' except the sky (his recommendation). With all the new options available in the display settings, I'm not sure what's a good starting point for my hardware.
#1 - Should I be using FSR? If so, what FPS limit?
#2 - If not FSR, I'm assuming FXAA is better results than TAA for standard AA operations?
#3 - At my current resolution, not even sure where to begin regarding screen percentage.

Any base suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm taking these first few days to try and dial-in my setup here with the sim as close to 'vanilla' before I start trying to put any mods back in.

    Good morning,

We do have a dedicated guide to graphical settings, which should walk you through the individual settings and explain their meaning.
You can find the guide here: https://support.dovetailgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/29719662434962-Train-Sim-World-Graphical-Settings-Guide

Given your high-end hardware, you should be able to run the game on the Epic preset and, depending on your preferences, finetune the individual settings to your liking. Most of these can be changed during gameplay, so you can pause the game, make a change and see the effects right away.

    All the best,
    Jan

I don’t know AMD particularly well, but you should be using FSR and frame generation and that should just set your screen percentage to 100 and lock it. Let it do its thing. Enhanced lighting will be fine and I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t use Epic, but try it and as Jan says, you can tweak the settings if need be. Shadow settings to Ultra the view distance to Ultra would probably be the two with the biggest impact.

If I choose to to upscaling, should I drop my resolution to 1080 and let the upscalaing bring it back to 1440?

dtg_jan - Thanks a million for that guide!

Also, I don't run the full AMD Adrenaline software suite on my system, just the bare driver. I felt wholly overwhelmed by all the options there in the custom controls section after being on Nvidia for almost a decade.

No. Leave it at 1440, the level of upscaling determines what happens, as shown here

    Hi.

Ive been using a 'universal' mod from TSW5 and 6, mostly based on Jetwash's work but personally tweaked for my own preferences, such as lens flares, passenger density, colour grading etc.

Most of that is obsolete now with the new TSW7 and im hugely grateful for it and all the work done there. Its incredible. With the Omnimod it took a fair chunk out of my processing power and frame rate, but this current TSW7 upgrade just sails through it all with no impact on my PC. Utterly stunning.

There are a few things I'd like to amend though.

I seem to have lost the long track shadows. They now appear a short distance ahead of me, instead of in the long distance like before with the previous ini file settings.

There are some shaders that refuse to stay in place and continually pop in, such as on overhead cable pylons.

Is there a way we can adjust these again, even using the engine.ini?

    Huuuuge thanks once again.

I just wanted to give a quick update after a number of hours of tweaking yesterday.

#1 - FSR is definitely a no-go. It was tanking my framerates down into the lower 40's even while standing still on foot in a busy station. There was constant 'sparkly' artifacts going on, especially on the rail surfaces, ballast and the edge of windows on the trains.

#2 - I was able to run the 'Epic' preset with enhanced lighting just fine while keeping the resolution at 1440p, locking the FPS to 60 & using TAA in windowed fullscreen mode. It would drop to around 48 FPS or so in busy areas. I'm still doing base runs on the new routes to build up the shader cache (as I did a clean driver install on my card the day before the early release).

I'm quite happy with what I'm seeing so far. The amount of texture pop-in is massively reduced, compared to previous yearly releases.

Just to be sure, did you restart the game after activating FSR?

I did not! Let me try the experiment over again doing that.

EDIT - No change, the artifacts are still there with FSR enabled & set for 'Native AA'. Turning on frame generation then tanks the FPS. I also tried to take a screenshot of the artifacts, but the in-game screenshot function does not capture them at all.

    Final update:

I put the full AMD Adrenaline suite back on the PC. I enabled FSR & Frame Generation in the sim and then activated AMD FSR 3.1 in the Adrenaline dashboard, along with AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2.1. I was averaging 153.9 FPS on 'Epic' using the AMD overlay readout.

I did do a full clean re-install of the driver via DDU, so I did see a few micro-stutters as the shader cache was being rebuilt, and I can honestly say I am knocked-out by how awesome the sim looks now! Running the in-game FSR settings without enabling the core functionality in the display driver is what was causing my issues. I had also completely forgot to re-enable 'above 4GB decoding' and 'resizable BAR' after my last BIOS update (d'oh!).

Most of my last Airedale run, the GPU was at between 90% and 100% utilization, but the max VRAM used on the run was 9100 MB.

Ah that’s great! So it was a driver thing :)

    Ok, mind blown:
Ive been running my game on 3840x2160 screen resolution for a while now using highest settings and hard working ini.

I used to have by GPU maxed out at 95% to 100%

With the new smooth motion, epic settings and everything thats now inbuilt into the core game via Jetwash, I bumped the screen resolution to 4096 x 2160 and it STILL gives me better performance than my old setting.

I could never play my game on that resolution before as the frame rate and GPU melted.

The horizon is much further back and fidelity like strobing on cables and fences has almost vanished.

    It looks and performs incredibly.
