Hi I came up with a topic that you want to see for later routes what you like to have 1 route but sold in different era like here what I mean like having the Mildway Line have another version set pre 2006 before it was the Overground and Line went to North Woolwich before it close in 2007 getting Brighton Mainline in Connex era to have slam door trains and get ECML set in GNER era pre 2008 and have jt wcml routes in modern era to match up with WCMLS and Trent Valley I do wish we have more late 1990s/early 2000 er routes as so we old and new stock

So what you think should we have more same routes but have it in different era

I would love to see the Just Trains routes in a modern era, that quality with modern units would be awesone.

I think West Cornwall is the obvious one and it's been requested to happen enough times.

For me, Brighton Mainline set in the 80's or so would be great, with the old slam door stock and whatnot. Would be a pretty unique route.

I can appreciate the "good old days," but it feels jarring when routes are connected yet the time periods are vastly different.

I can appeciate the old days too, I like the atmospere of it, with the old trains and cars and somehow it reminds me of better days.

But personally I prefer to drive newer trains.

We had some proof of concept of that with Linke Rheinstrecke in 1997 and 1984, which was rather well executed gameplay pack (except for requiring two dependencies for full experience), but it probably didn't sell too well and I never really see anyone even talking about it.

Agree with the modern versions of the JT routes and West Cornwall, especially as virtually all the relevant stock exists in the game for these now.

I’d also like to see a 1986 version of the Spirit of Steam route to expand out on JT’s network.

If you want to do it right, then you have to change more then only the rolling stock. Linke Rheinstrecke is a bad example, as it is just the same 1997 route with older stock. Different type of signals, other route details, different cars and maybe they even have to change stations and remove/add buildings. On Linke Rheinstrecke you see houses with solar panels, which is not very realistic for the era 1997 and 1984.

    Exactly.

Different eras require more than just different locos and rolling stock - they require a significant environmental overhaul and would need to be priced accordingly.

Most likely, DTG will sell this as a gameplay pack, like the BR111 + N-wagens on Kinzigtalbahn. In that case, they can stick the gameplay pack at a place the sun doesn't shine.

To be fair you don’t see loads of German discussion here, doesn’t that mainly happen on an unofficial German site? (Can’t remember the name of it now).

I do agree though that it seems to be a trend to make a hash of ‘older’ routes. The one you mentioned with Solar Panels, Bremen which is supposed to be early 2000’s but has stuff like Vectrons running around, Stutgart that suffers similar things to Bremen but don’t worry they used older station signage. I mean that last one is so poor that they added a timetable set almost 2 decades later & there is no change in atmosphere at all.

It’s a pretty prototypical of DTG to try and make something from an older era, fail to achieve that atmosphere with bizarre asset & rolling stock choices & then make out the problem is that people aren’t interested in retro content.

I don't know how good the English of the average German is nowadays, but I would not surprised if it isn't good. So likely that's why you not see that many German route discussions here.

I hate that Vectron on Bremen and we still have no option to disable certain substitutions. Stutgart with only DB red is also not very realistic with the original timetable and the BR147 timetable is also just a cheap way to sell more DLC.

I played mainly German routes in the past, however I'm done with them, as most of them look te same and with only DB red. I didn't play a German route for months, I mostly focus on UK routes now.

I personally do not agree with that, I don't know what LFR looked like in the 80s, but between what is presented as 1997 scenery and 2026, I don't see many significant differences. Track layout is more or less the same (although some tracks are no longer used), stations still use 80s architecture, just nowadays there is an additional display mounted under the roof. Railway infrastructure has a lot of momentum and one state of scenery can easily span 40 years with maybe one or two stations being renovated. The vibes come from the rolling stock a lot, and I found E94 pack to be fun and different. Older signal heads would be nice touch, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

From what I understood that is not the case for routes like WCML though, where switching setting means significant infrastructure change and corridorization. I wouldn't be surprised if touching the trackwork would break the ingame route completely and you had to remake a lot from scratch afterwards, that would never be in scope of a gameplay pack for significantly lower price than a brand new route - and usually for the same price you want what is completely new rather than a rehash of what you already have.

Stuttgart still uses the white signage from 1980s in 2026 and probably will continue until the S21 project finishes, by the way.

I'm not familair with this route irl, but signals could be quite different in the 80's. Look for example at the signals at Niddertalbahn, and this route is already set in the 90's. But also more modern buildings are most likely out of place on a 80's timetable.

    Yeah!
Modern has too much, we need to keep JT and Pixelpunk

I agree with this. I live in the modern world, I could leave work right now and jump on an M7 and ride the Harlem Line. I can only look at pictures and watch old videos of the past, and that makes me appreciate even more the works of JT and Pixelpunk. That isn't to say I don't enjoy modern content, or prefer one over the other, but I find that historical routes provide much more variety and diversity that modern routes simply don't have. I would much prefer to blast down to Gatwick at the throttle of a Class 73 while watching NSE slam-doors zip past, or bring an ACMU off the Hudson Line and down to Grand Central while FL9's and M2's shuffle on and off the Park Avenue Viaduct.

Same but for me it’s more the old sides of Scotland and early electrics like the 76,77 and 81

I mean AABS are kind of the JT for modern routes. I just whish we would have more german 3rd partys so we can have TSG for 19xx routes and maybe Folezz will be the german AABS?

Would of been nice for Cajon Pass with HIS's ATSF pack, as the 3rd track was not built in the pass until 2008, but given it was a gameplay pack, that obviously didn't happen.

The Boston to Worchester route could be an option for that though, as G-Trax (Who also had members that are currently part of HIS) made the Boston and Albany route on TSC, which covers the same section of track.

But I doubt HIS are in any place to do that, due to the numerous new stock needed for it to work in its basic form.
