I think they should lock the DTG and Focus management for 72 hours in a room, to watch this video on repeat. No breaks, no sleep just watch and watch and watch, until they learn something from it.
Anyhow Running Train - running sweet as a nut now with 1440p and DLSS engaged, without passengers mind so need to try that later. Though I can't keep time for toffee and ended up overshooting one of the stations on the branch line. I wonder what the Japanese equivalent of tea and biscuits is. Probably seppuku with the manager swinging the katana...
If it makes you feel better, Vern, you've only made me more confident in my decision not to pre-order lol It's pretty sad when I still find more joy in old MSTS add-ons than some of the latest and greatest stuff.
The thing is, I have always wished this franchise well, but that inevitably led to wishful thinking: "Surely they'll get better. They have to." But they haven't. Lucy has jerked the football away one too many times and I'm ill-disposed to take another kick at it. Anyone who has read my posts going back years knows that on the whole I have defended DTG more than I have criticized them. Unlike some, I realize that this is a business and it has to work within budget constraints, both financial and chronological. I've never joined the chorus complaining not about what a route is but what they think it should be, often complete fantasies like running ECML from Leeds to Kings Cross (some people can't do sums, apparently). Likewise I don't mind that Tri-Rail only goes to Boca Raton, and understand, reluctantly, that freight-only routes don't sell. I happen to like, or at least find likable, many of DTG's public-facing people, starting with Matt P. But after the promises of last month's reveal - which had me very excited - dissolved into yet more bugs, some of them appallingly bad, and the new features like Freight Hauler and AI Conductor turned out to be neat ideas poorly executed, I just hit my limit. While I don't necessarily expect a new game to work perfectly out of the box, I do expect that game-breaking bugs will be fixed in a reasonable time-frame (and, no, seven months is not reasonable). Compare Warhorse Studios in Prague, an outfit no bigger than DTG, which sets and usually hits a deadline of one week to get major bugs patched. There is something deeply, deeply wrong with DTG's business model, at least where it comes to making an acceptable consumer product. Apparently it works just great for 'increasing shareholder value,' as the phrase goes. And that really was the breaking point for me- having avoided the undriveable Wittenberg cab car for half a year, I went back to it the other day on the naive assumption the power gauge would surely have been fixed: and wound up rage-quitting because this unattended bug ruined my run. I can live with the occasional branch whipping through the cab, a crude texture on a building or an AI train showing the wrong destination. I can't live with trains I'm unable to drive and services I'm unable to complete. It has been suggested I go ahead and get the free edition of TSW7- but why? Most of the new features only work on the new routes, and in any case I would have to re-download all of my DLC (I've lost count, but well over 100), and then play the frustrating hassle of testing all of my huge file of mods to see which ones still work and which don't - and for what? A new lighting system or a new weather system which mods already do better? So, I am going to wait and see- but in the mode of someone who has bought a lotto ticket : with much hope but little optimism.
If you have it on Xbox, you won’t need game pass unless you bought things through gamepass, I hope that makes sense. TSW should remain in your library as a game you can play on Xbox for PC.
Alright folks, First, thanks for the feedback, while folks may not believe it, and I do understand, we are documenting everything and sending issues up as soon as we can. Though feedback in this thread is negative, as I’ve said many times I would rather not have an echo chamber of positivity and want diverse opinions. Second, we’re not locking people in a room with no sleep, I’m pretty sure that would break a Geneva convention rule or 4. Third, apologies for not being able to pop in sooner and do a little cleanup. But I removed the arguments that were posted.
Thank You. Sometimes or at least that’s what I think, a few people forget that it’s just a game. Just get a break, arguing on a railway forum won’t get you anywhere in life
Ah yes, like DTG have done for the past 4 versions of the game, only for the majority of them to be ignored. Gotcha! With all due respect, when something is broken, having an argument is the natural way to sort people's head space out! This isn't a railway forum, those places are 1000 times more toxic than this place.
I wasn’t referring to you. But as for a game… Yes, it has plenty of flaws, but if you realise the other person is just posting provocative comments, you can simply distance yourself. After all, you don’t stoop to their level.
We just released notes on the day 1 patch, and just had an update to a significant bug last week. Keep in mind not everything can be fixed, but significant progress and updates are being made. I can say within the past year the patch notes have been larger and more fixes than ever have started being made, however, you are welcome to feel this way and I do understand your thoughts here. Keep in mind, it wasn’t that kind of arguing. It was more the attacking each other and getting sassy to each other that didn’t continue the dialogue or conversation.
With all due respect Candice, if bugs can't be fixed, then the products should not be charged at a premium, irrelevant of production costs, which DTG has decided to do with TSW 7. The product in it's current state, isn't worth the premium pricing in my opinion, and I've spent a lot of money on it over the years in a hope that some of the glaring problems would be fixed and not ignored. I'm not going to get into the in's and out's again, as I feel we (collective) have been reporting the same issues for years, and the issues are still present, without any comment from DTG about them being unfixable. If that's the case, easier to say that, then getting negative comments. Just my 2 cents.
To be clear, this is unfortunately a reality of games, not all bugs can be fixed, some aren’t able to be reproduced even with reports, or some being fixed would cause another issue to occur. What can be done is creating a priority list and then fixing anything after the priority fixes are done, which is what I’ve seen lately. I’ve had to tell people that stuff like a plane in an older route couldn’t be fixed, and things like that. I will say the priority right now is game breaking bugs, then major issues causing problems, then other things like gravel going through rails and stuff like that. If it won’t break something else, or it’s not something that won’t take a lot of resources to fix, it will likely be fixed or remastered.
I replied with an extended answer. If that answer doesn’t make sense, or needs more explanation let me know!
Is that an official DTG statement or your own opinion? And a followup, could we have a list of the bugs that can't be fixed? Would save time asking about them if we knew they were a lost cause.
Well, of course this was kind of a joke, but I think you do get the point about this game needing a change from rushed releases. Maybe we should add letting gamers suffer from bugs also add to the Geneva convention rules I just really hope this game will be better in the future, but this means developers and other employees need time to do their job well and a good QA.
Or... they should not be released broken and untested in the first place. Much of what has been reported on the routes and the core features should have been picked up on internal beta testing and QA, let alone external. Or is that also being outsourced and done by people with little or no knowledge of how railways should work and maybe in a country (like India) who know even less about European and US rail systems. Yes it was an early access period but most games in early access (Running Train again) go through an extended period of development before being declared at the 1.0 stage. Not one week and at nearly £60 for the privilege.
My biggest issue is that the latest iterations haven't been new games, simply "upgrades" to the base game dressed up as a new game. While this can be defended by the bare-bones versions being free, corporate knows what they're doing by leveraging the FOMO on the bundle discounts, and I myself am guilty of succumbing to it in the past. As a console user, I am simply burnt out by the obvious lack of testing and the Apple-esque strategy of "A NEW HAT!!!" to what's just the same thing year, after year, after year now. I myself am not ready to jump ship, I still see potential in this game, but I refuse to pay to be a beta tester for content that has been allowed to release with obvious bugs for the sake of profit. If something goes on sale, I will buy, but new content no longer has the same value to me, and that is a huge problem.
Would it be wrong to switch because of something like that? Because I want TSW to get better, but I don't necessarily see a future for it on consoles. I'd even have to buy a new gaming PC and rebuild my collection of I-don't-know-how-many GBs because of that.
I’ve typed a reply a few times, deleted it a few more because I don’t have an easy answer. As for DTGs official answer, my answer is based solely on my experience in QA, Dev, Support, and CM work for nearly 13 years. I only know definite answers on bugs that I’ve reported. I usually post where they are reported if the fix is coming or the devs have told me it isn’t, if I don’t post, more than likely I’m waiting on news.
Thank you for your response, are you saying that we should be reporting bugs to you, or are these bugs you have found personally? Matt was talking about a community bug list a few weeks ago, is this the start to that project? It's ok just to say it's your opinion, you don't need to go all spin, i'm not hiring
It wouldn't be wrong per se, but the whole point is that I shouldn't have to switch to PC. I like playing TSC and OR on my PC (which is older and currently maxed out on upgrades), and I like playing TSW on my console in my recliner. When I buy a product, I expect it to work, regardless of function, form, or otherwise. If the same content is being sold across PC, PS, and Xbox, I expect at least some sort of consistency, and, without trying to come across as rude, the only consistent part has been the inconsistency.
Thank you, Candace. I'm genuinely not trying to fuel negativity, I'm just sad and disappointed after being a console user from the beginning and investing heavily in DLC up until the past year. Again, I truly appreciate your presence here.
As for reporting bugs I mean me and the CM team. When I talk about reporting updates I can only really speak for me. Unless I’m too crazy busy or the ADHD has made me forget, I will generally post updates on the status. The spreadsheet: I don’t know where Matt is on that, I know it was tossed around, but I’ll check, if it’s possible I’ll just post a list or Matt or Alex will. I’m used to folks quoting me, so I wanted to be 100% clear, it’s my opinion and not just some made up note.
But this feedback has been given since the disaster that was TSW 5's release. DTG can't keep churning out a yearly release of the core product, which contains bugs still present from the previous year, and not expect people to get annoyed when core and basic features of a working railway are broken etc etc. I've said it before and I'll say it again. DTG needs to take a long hard look in the mirror, evaluate closely and heavily the way in which it's developing it, because clearly someone that's signing off on this stuff is under pressure to do so, and it's having a negative effect on the brand. Stop the yearly release schedule. Stop dressing up a patch/core update as a new game, spend time fixing the bugs, and leave content developers to create routes and locos in their own time. DTG take a big enough cut of the DLC money to make enough to further develop and fix the core engine. Personally I think TSW 7 has done more damage than good for the product, this was supposed to be redemption, finally dropping support for the older consoles, yet the current generation have been served up a hot mess again. That's not really a good look, is it?
There are modders fixing stuff that DTG should be doing, especially when pumping out yearly versions with the same issue that certain people within DTG say they'll fix and never do.... Just look at the amount of fixes that modders have already released over on Train Sim Community. And I'm also pretty sure some of the development team sit with their heads buried in the sand with some of the reported bugs.
Matt won't, Matt asked me to post one, Alex may say he will but then he says a bunch: So it really is all down to you now Candance.
Yeah, somehow it just feels wrong. I've been thinking about getting a gaming PC for a long time, and TSW made the cup run over. Can I say it in English? I’ll probably keep playing on consoles at the same time or just connect my controller to my PC. It’s just like I said—I don’t really see a future in console development right now, and there haven’t exactly been any improvements either. I just love playing TSW too much to give it up completely, and there simply isn’t any decent competition. Sure, Running Train or Sim Rail are definitely good games, but they don’t interest me at all. I like the European routes, whether in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, or the other. But I don’t know of any other simulator where I have as much variety as in TSW.
Google suggests "Breaking the camel's back", we have "The straw that broke the camel's back" here and it fits the context of "the small additional thing that causes something big to happen". Edit: We also have "That's the last straw!" but that's looney tunes cowboy.
Yeah it’s all sorted now, thank you! much better now performance wise, looking forward to reinstalling my other routes tomorrow.
