Yes please to a dark version of the UI.
A dark version of these forums would be nice too.

I’ve been indifferent about the UI so far but after last night’s stream I was shocked how hard to read the report screen is. For me the background is just too bright and the sections are poorly delineated. Maybe we’ve found a new use for those Eclipse glasses although a dark mode would be much better (white on black you can’t go wrong).

I think the big problem with this kind of thing is that often the people making it don't get a choice in the matter, someone above them whose specialty is marketing and branding, not UX, will give them a brief to stick within.

On a side note, it looks like they widened the "Score brekdown" section which lead to the "Performance breakdown" being the victim of some serious squishing. They should probably start from scratch with a new end of service design, to show all information in a much nicer way, some of this design dates back to TSW2 at least, and they keep adding to it.

    - Why would you put the service name in the lower right corner with a huge font and a scrolling text, instead of promoting it to the title of the screen.
    - Why is the performance breakdown title font much larger than the other two sections
    - Why does the score breakdown have those vertical lines in the title line, but the other two do not
    - Key statistics has the same visual treatment but a completely different font.

Basically my conclusion is, DTG as a company lacks UI and Design specialized people, what they have is railfan engineers and a marketing team that always wants something new. So they get something new each year, but progressively worse looking and most likely performing worse as well since the old pieces never change, and they keep adding new UI with different resources.

If I look at the image for too long, I really do get a headache.
Please, DTG, change this as soon as possible; as far as I’m concerned, you can even reuse the one from TSW 5 or 6 – that’s definitely better than the current one.

Yes, I also hope that a mod will fix this as soon as possible.
I just keep wondering why modders have to tweak TSW to make it look better than the original in every respect.

Hence why I said who approved it should get it just as badly, honestly going off how bad it is, I think a 3 year painting would still come out better than the mess DTG chose, DTG blink twice if you’re okay

    +1 for Dark Mode

My eyes are sensitive for bright lights and prone for inflammation and searching the mouse cursor on that bright UI isn't fun either.

Did DTG say anything about the UI problem or do we have to wait for TSW8?

Its good theyre investigating, but this needs to be an ASAP thing. its a clear accessibility issue for certain people.

    Im remaining cautiously hopeful.

Agreed, I dont have any issues with bright lights myself, but even i feel like the entire menu is just super bright.

I cant imagine what it would be with certain medical issues which have extreme sensitivity to bright lights.

I should probably just put "Everything is very difficult for DTG" in my signature at this point the amount of times it comes up.

If they cant, that would be logically stupid and quite frankly ridiculous.

accessibility should be a top priority, and if they say it isnt possible, I quite frankly dont believe that.

To put in a dark mode, it isnt a huge, massive undertaking.

I made a suggestion on this same thing in the past, more menu customisation would be really solid.

    and changing menu musics too.

I did ask for me personally, as migraines and the new UI don’t go together. I’m hoping it does get done as something you just click a button for. I only have the power to ask though.

I’ll sit here and wait for the yellow text to be removed from the minimal HUD.

Yes UI is really bad especially playing at night. Really poorly thought through that.
Another +1 for changing the minimal hud text back to white.

As an old fart .......... I fully support the aims of this thread.

    1/ The contrast is awful
2/ I play in a low light room (on purpose)
3/ This is the first time that I've had to change my mouse pointer colour (for one game) so that I can find the cursor on a very large screen.
4/ Did I mention that I am an old fart?

It's like my third post in this thread, that kinda shows how horrible the state of UI currently is. There was absolutely zero accessibility or any kind of validation testing done for whatever components of the UI, whether the menus, the minimal HUD, the track monitor or anything.

The hodgepodge fix DTG made for Steamdeck Verified status of increasing font size, now has us have a huuuge "Distance" label over the track monitor that even before had zero value and a terrible background grey box, now made bigger, and overlapping the content sometimes.

Dont get me started on the inconsistency of fonts, sizes and colors used accross the HUD elements right now. My previous post complained of the same thing in the end of service screen, but the HUD is also egregious. Ideally the most important text should be the biggest, using bold typefaces, only warnings/alerts should be using a non neutral color. The background effects should also not vary accross the UI elements, some have the ugly grey rectangle behind them, some rely only on the opaque background going back to TSW2 at least.

It is horrible, and really a sign of things that a company cannot get something as simple as 2-3 screens of UI right over like 7 years of iteration. Every year boasting a redesigned UI when you actually have only changed some colors for the worse. We go through this every single year, that the changes made either impact those with color blindness in terms of the colors themselves or have such terrible contrast that everyone suffers.

Please DTG hire an Junior UI/UX designer, hire an intern, do something. Dont just come out in a month with the grey changed to a draker grey and call it a day.

I just dont understand why you dont create a dark and light theme at the same time when developing. The UI is a mess anyway with all these dots in the background and some tiles in the front use alpha channels.

To quote myself from the feedback thread on the core game, "Investigating if we're able to support a darker UI menu option" is not good enough; it's an accessibility basic requirement after moving from a dark UI to a light one, to make sure that those with visual impairments are supported. My eyes get tired more quickly with brighter backgrounds, thanks to some laser eye surgery a couple of years ago, so for me it's not a 'nice to have'.

Yeah, you'd think it'd get pointed out by at least one beta tester unless they just get stuck on a train and a run to try and find bugs and problems with general gameplay, such as touchscreens that don't work or distracting yellow text on the UI.

Are you saying it’s impossible for people to get headaches if they look at this far too bright user interface for too long?

But this bright user interface actually gives me a headache, because that always happens to me when I have to look at such bright menus for too long.
And I think DTG should fix this user interface sooner rather than later, because the one we’ve got now looks absolutely rubbish.
And, like other users here, I can’t understand how something like this could have got through testing – if there even is any.
I even know a few people who’ve told me they won’t start playing TSW 7 again until this far-too-bright user interface has finally been fixed.

And I’m amazed that we haven’t got a mod for this yet, as the TSW modders are usually very quick to fix DTG bugs with mods.

You've completely read what she's written wrong. The UI is causing migraines. If one of your own staff is suffering then surely they can't do nothing.

I am really glad TSW7 launched the day before I started breaking in a new pair of glasses, because that would have been a doozy, testing it while my brain hadn't yet started to compensate for the distortion in the stronger lenses and the view from my left eye still looked like a PS1 game with all the warping.
