Early days, I realise, but in the past week I enjoyed using DLSS 5 Swapper to apply ReShade and DLSS 5 to TSW 6. I was curious if anybody had tried it on TSW 7 as yet, or if it would even work?

Unsurprising, I remember the demo, the systems had dual 5090s, one running the game and one running DLSS5. I imagine running it on a single one is really going to push the power draw. I dread to imagine how much smoke will be coming off those 12VHPWR connectors on some of the graphics cards people have modded it to run on.
I play TSW 7 with DLSS 5, it is a Game Changer, so much better graphics. Here some screens with DLSS 5 Natural. My PC: RTX 5080 OC and Ryzen 7800 X3D. I played in 3440x1440, Epic Details and DLAA. By the way: DLSS 5 is Reno DLSS 5 Mod
I believe Nvidia are currently optimising it to run on the RTX 40xx series, for an official release, of course.
Now that Reno has made DLSS 5 compatible with 4000 and 3000 series graphics cards, NVIDIA has to respond—at least for the 4000 series.
MMIX What is this Reno DLSS 5 mod? Is there any way to download it, or am I completely misunderstanding this? Or do you need to adjust something in the Nvidia Control Panel, or are the settings in TSW 7 sufficient?
Dunno how it looks in motion but the screenshots look unnatural and almost painted to me. Like the trains have a canvas texture.
Nvidia were already in the process of optimising DLSS 5 for the 40 series of cards before the mods arrived, for official release to developers this year. 30 series probably won't happen; they have an older chipset that it isn't intended to work on. There's a big difference between official release with developers integrating the required code to someone shoving it into a game via modding.

The easiest way is to use the ReShade HDR Installer. Then you can activate DLSS 5 in every Games that supported DLSS. 1. Download ReShade HDR Installer 2.) Start it 3.) Go to Train Sim World 7 4.) Under the section "Components" install Reshade (6.8.0 latest version) 5.) Now go to section "Game Overrides" and there to "Shaders and Addons" and then under Addons click "select" instead of "Global". Then activate "DLSS5 Tool" and click to Deploy 6.) Next go to section "Neural Rendering", The DLSS 5 tool must be selected 7.) Next go to section DLSS Super Resolution and under Version click to 310.8.0 and under Neural Rendering 310.8.2 Thats it Start TSW 7, the Reshade Menu starts also, cklick on Keyboard "Pos1) (GER) or "Home" (Eng), now you in Reshade Menü and then go to "RenoDX-DLSSNR" Tab. Activate "Enable DLSS Neural Rendering". Under tab NR Style use your Preset: - DLSS 5 Standard (Default) - DLSS 5 Natural - DLSS 5 Cinematic you can change it every time in Game. In the other tabs, you can adjust the intensity of the effects if you want. But be careful—DLSS 5 takes a huge toll on performance. With my RTX 5080 OC (3.2 GHz), the FPS can drop by more than half, depending on the scenery and track, but since I get enough FPS with the 5080, it’s still manageable. But the real bonus is the really nice graphics. You have for Filters for DLSS 5: - DLSS 5 Standard - DLSS 5 Natural - DLSS Cinematic Use what for you the best is. For me Natural and Cinematic It’s interesting, though, that Nvidia announced DLSS 5 for the RTX 4000 series right after the release of the DLSS 5 mods. Irony or coincidence? Previously, it was always said that DLSS 5 would be “only on Blackwell” because of its FP4 data format, which Ada (4000) doesn’t support. To be fair to Nvidia I doubt anyone with less than a 5090 is actually gonna want to use it while playing. The results are impressive but it's in the same boat ray tracing was back in 2019, neat but way too much of a performance hit to be useful on cards of the time. Even on a 5090 lot of the most demanding games won't be able to use it due to the performance hit. Also not entirely relevant for TSW, but for stylized games it's pretty useless, it kills the look of Mario Odyssey for example in a demo I've seen. Honestly I suspect the best use case would be something like ETS2 from what I've seen. That game is low resource enough that you might be able to actually use it while running at still reasonable FPS counts. But that's frankly kind of a outlier in the sim market, MSFS & TSW will probably need much better cards on the market before anyone makes serious use of it. Like I even now, I don't know how many people use the ray-traced shadows in MSFS, I know I had to turn them off because the performance hit was very noticeable.
Clearly if it was Mario Odyssey, that demo is not in any way "real" or official. When DLSS 5 is implemented by developers, as it's intended to be (not by modders and such), the developer will control exactly how DLSS 5 changes the look of their game. Nvidia explained this. That's why fears that it will destroy the developers'/artists' vision are unfounded, too.
I can no longer tell where the virtual world ends and reality begins. Even though my 4080S is already struggling to keep up, I just can’t get enough of it. Whether it’s day or night, the scenery along the route becomes even more breathtaking. I can’t even imagine what kind of mind-blowing technology we’ll see next year.
Raytracing and Pathtracing are standards in modern Games on PC, every new Triple-A Game has RT and PT Support. Both technologies have become widely adopted. And thanks to DLSS, even graphics cards below the 5090 or 5080 can benefit from it—okay, it gets a little trickier with PT, or you might have to switch to DLSS Performance (But who would want that?), but it's possible and if you don't need 60+ Fps. If you watch the current YouTube videos of DLSS 5 in games, it’s impressive what it can still pull off. I’ve tested it not only in TSW but also in CP 77, Oblivion, Starfield, Doom, and Skyrim. Even in TSW, which uses the older UE 4 engine, it significantly boosts the graphics—in my opinion. The PS6 will also support neural rendering via PSSR, and AMD is working on the PC equivalent; we’ll be seeing a lot of neural rendering in the future, across all platforms.
Those first two shots are absolutely wild. I thought they were real pictures. It should be noted that DLSS 5 is basically an AI filter that runs the game assets through generative AI to make everything more photorealistic. Because of that the performance hit is massive even with a high end GPU. I’d be curious to know what the FPS was when you took these screenshots.

There is no way those responsible for the NPC's are going to complain about their artistic integrity, not in this game. Another reason it is perfect for a good coating of AI slop.
These screenshots are breathtaking. I still haven't taken the plunge into messing around with DLSS 5. I've installed the swapper but too worried to start as I've been reading about the additional stress it places on gfx cards, esp those not in the RTX 50 series. RAM and Gfx cards are too bloody expensive now to be risking frying things. For reference I have a RTX4070Ti Like others, I'd like to know what FPS OP is getting. I'm guessing it is pretty poor as he said his card is struggling to keep up. All well and good if its looking like that but only running at 10fps :/
Yes, that's true, but under the hood, it's still the Unreal Engine 4. DLSS 5 can certainly produce beautiful visuals, but it can't fully enhance an engine—and that's not what it's meant to do anyway. Here's where its limitations lie: - The sky - When there are poorly rendered objects in the environment (houses, items) - Vegetation (it looks nicer, but it’s not an update like an engine update) - And NPCs—if they’ve already been well-implemented in the game (i.e., not TSW-style) but rather CP77, etc., then there’s a much more noticeable difference compared to TSW But I definitely think the NPCs in TSW 7 with DLSS 5 look more appealing than before; you might even think Nvidia Hairworks was at work (a little): Standard TSW: DLSS 5: Standard TSW: DLSS 5:
But DLSS 5 already handles lighting, reflections, shadows, and fine details well. Here’s an example with lighting—in the game, the sun was hidden behind the train station roof—and the shadows (especially the softer ones) and the way lighting affects the scene are much more realistic with DLSS 5: TSW Standard: DLSS 5: It is the right way. Let's see what the future holds and whether we'll ever see DLSS 5 natively supported in TSW—though I somehow don't think so.
I’m using an RTX 4080 SUPER. At 1440p with 2× DLSS 5, I can get around 30–40 FPS. However, FPS isn’t the biggest issue. The main problem is that DLSS 5 still has some issues at the moment, such as image flickering caused by lighting and shadows, which can make the picture look blurry. It may take some time before DLSS 5 can run perfectly.
Yeah, based on my testing so far, FPS isn’t really the biggest issue. The bigger problem is the lighting and shadow flickering, which has a pretty noticeable impact on the image when things are moving. But once the scene comes to a stop, it’s absolutely breathtaking. But this is definitely where things are heading, and there’s no stopping it. Maybe we’ll see a much more mature version of the technology next year. I’m not against it at all — with simulation games, we’re always chasing the most realistic experience possible, and this could take immersion to a whole new level.
Aside from the faces on the NPCs, this is the one time I've seen DLSS 5 actually improve the look of a game.
Yeah it’s cool tech, of course. But I can’t figure out why I don’t like the end result. It just looks unnatural.. and I’ll acknowledge how ridiculous that is to say about a virtual gaming world. It reminds me of that smooth motion TV setting. The one that creates the weird soap opera effect.
I wouldn't be surprised if DTG try to use DLSS 5 to 'fix' the lighting in the base game at some point.
I’m looking at these shots, and I’m not really seeing anything impressive. Jetwash’s enhanced lighting did transform the visuals of the game, and I think it’s doing most of the work in these shots with DLSS5 piggybacking off of it, stealing the credit. This reliance of AI to “improve” games is getting tiresome. While on subject of AI, I’m also not convinced that the smooth motion trick is “better”. I’ve been playing with that on and off since TSW7 came out using my 4090 and I’m finding that smooth motion 60fps is not as smooth as native 60fps, it’s quite jittery when you look close enough, even 120fps via smooth motion doesn’t feel as good as authentic 60fps, the 1%Ls jump more with SM on. It’s good if you’re paranoid about temps and want to take a small hit on actual smoothness, but it certainly isn’t as good as a true native 60fps from my experience.
Assuming smooth motion works the same as frame generation, 60fps with it isn't real 60fps, so naturally it won't feel as good. TSW's framerate fluctuates massively, which is one of the requirements for frame generation to work well. If you have a game that is already smooth, frame generation will feel a lot better because of the base framerate. I think part of the messaging with frame generation is wrong. It can't make a game that runs badly run well, but it can make a game that already run well look even smoother.
I would say save your analysis of DLSS 5 as a technology until you see it implemented officially in a game. You're discussing issues with a modder's implementation, not native developer implementation. So to talk about issues and "maybe it will mature next year" is a bit moot. Currently, only NBA 2K27 has proper DLSS 5 implementation. In that case, the developers have fully controlled how it works with the game and what affect it has on the visuals, as intended.
Because this is also a Vanilla TSW and UE 4 problem. As I wrote, DLSS 5 isn't a magic solution, and at its core, UE 4 in the game still has its own issues. These issues also carry over to mods and other add-ons.
This. Trying to get 60 from frame gen is a mug's game since it works worse the lower the base framerate. Frame gen is about adding perceived fluidity above a baseline threshold.
I remember just for a laugh getting a laptop RX 560 running Cyberpunk 2077 at 60fps by upscaling from a truly abominable internal resolution. a very Ian Malcolm moment if ever there was one.
