As I hate the need to download everything all over again every year - there's got to be an easier way - I decided to do a small install of a couple of routes and take a look. Not impressed with the UI and the menu colours are horrible.
I have a feeling I'll that I will likely stick with my original intention of staying with TSW6 for now and move over once there's something I want to buy.

That's basically where I'm at, or until there's a deeper discount on the deluxe content. Only thing really there that interests me is Tri-Rail, but it's not enough for a day one purchase, especially with the route ending short at Boca.

I'm completely missing my compatible version of Preston to Carlisle. I tried reinstalling the TSW6 version bit it's locked behind a paywall on the Microsoft store now...

First impressions playing TSW7 tonight and after the latest patch are good, based on playing the UK route. I have quite a high spec machine ( rtx5080) so the epic settings are really great, with enhanced lighting as well. Live weather performing fine with smooth transitions now unlike before todays patch. AI conductor also seems to be behaving itself after the patch. The uk route is really well done I think. Still need to try the other routes but for me its looking pretty good so far!

Just done a run on East Coastway, you appear to need to have AI Conductor set to “Realistic” in order to get the guard to ring the bell to depart, but you only get one bell it seems oddly, it should be two bells, and two bells back from the driver. Needs a fix ideally

and, the guard on the 313 should be in the rear cab, not operating out of the front side door

    Anyone noticed missing/mislocated train bogies?

I did see someone mention that using custom liveries causes an issue similar, but so far I’ve noticed the TFW 150 has collapsed & the bogies are inside the unit itself.

Had this issue on TSW 6 with the 150 on the xbox app version. It just seemed to fix itself after a game update.

I'm probably being thick but how do I change the default behaviour of the external camera? I thought there used to be an option (in Controls?) but I can't find it.

On the subject of settings, it's really annoying how some carry over and some don't when you import your profile. The layout of the settings is also unfathomable in places, especially when not all of them have descriptive text to help you.

Positives: the GUI does feel faster.

    Why DLAA Is
    sg.ResolutionQuality=87.000000
    ScreenPercentage=87.000000
Is it supose to be like that? DLAA getting upscale from 100% screen resolution.

I feel the same. Downloading all my dlc again, is a real pain. And also the ui is far to bright, its HORRIBLE.

Have downloaded the free starter pack and I have to say the graphic improvements on PC are very noticeable. No more flickering of fences and trees using DLSS and it runs very smoothly, TSW6 was good this seems to be even better although I have only run Cardiff network, Lancaster to Morecombe and Paddington to Reading so far. I haven't used Epic settings yet but may try them at some point.

The "AI" conductor mode and safety systems being on are defintely worth while.

Yeah, DLAA is the reason why it's worth buying Nvidia. FPS with native DLAA higher than with 130% TAA and it looks better.

I was playing with 125% res scaling before this with frame gen from the driver and what we have now is a big step up from that. 7800XT

Anyone on Xbox if you want to try the new routes but don't want to pay if you have Gamepass Ultimate TSW7 and the 3 core routes are on there now.

Edit:My bad there was a button on the free starter pack beside install that said upgrade to Ultimate.

I thought that meant upgrade to Gamepass Ultimate as they sometimes do with other games.

But no its upgrade to the Ultimate Edition.

Free starter pack on XSX and I enjoyed my run on BPO immensely with the class 31. I found the camera a bit twitchy on Xbox but still controllable. Was nice to be able to do some fly by shots as the 31 powered by!

The UI is annoying with the shading making it hard to see services you're selecting. Haven't messed with the new AI guard so will have to try that next!

In the 331 with ai conductor are you supposed to get a buzzer when doors are closed ? This is with conductor set to realistic. I’m not hearing any buzzer but in the live stream I thought they did get a buzzer .

Steam starter pack for me this evening. No mods yet, just the core game and all of my British DLC. If you copy your DLC folder straight over from TSW6 you'll need to run an integrity check before running the game. This will update a fair few routes which otherwise seem to throw you some funny skies / lighting.

    Pros:
    - I put everything on maximum settings (Epic / Ultra) and got a constant 60fps on Birmingham-Crewe right out of the box, starting at Crewe, which is fine for me as I play on a 60Hz TV in my living room so cap the framerate at 60 anyway. It seems much smoother than TSW6 but that may be a placebo effect, as I'm not aware of any major optimisation work having been done and more importantly I haven't imported any of my mods or ini tweaks yet. It's as vanilla as you can get, with the undesirable side effects that come with not modding the game.
    - Ok there's a new freight mode. I'll give it a go but I'm not sure side quests are what I wanted as a new feature in a simulator, I'd prefer bugfixes.

    Cons:
    - As others have said, the UI looks awful both in terms of the main menu colour and opacity scheme, and the new yellow text when playing which is completely unnecessary. Turning the distance counter yellow when you get within a mile of the destination / waypoint would have been fine, but there's no need to have the entire destination permanently highlighted. This is probably the first thing I'd want DTG to fix by hiring a UI/UX specialist. Might be worth sending them over to the formation designer and scenario planner while they're at it.
    - Very annoying that none of the game settings port over from TSW6.
    - Because of this, you have to spend a fair bit of time tweaking graphics / resolution / player assist / HUD settings to get everything back how you want it.
    - It took me a good five minutes to get coloured signal aspects to appear on the track monitor. It requires you to mess around enabling and disabling various combinations of the "Next Signal HUD" and "Next Signal Aspect" settings and returning to the game until the coloured aspects suddenly appear on the track monitor. This was a bug in TSW6 and possibly earlier.
    - I see the compass STILL doesn't go away when you hide the HUD whilst on foot (except on random occasions).
    - Still horrific levels of pop-in on trees and track shadows that progressively generate 50ft in front of you as you're driving along.
    - Worst of all, after 20 minutes on Birmingham-Crewe I got a crash to desktop. No Unreal crash report window once the game had exited. Is this automated now or do we simply not get to send crash data to DTG anymore? This is my first CTD since January. Not a good start at all and I'll be keeping TSW6 installed for now.

I haven't imported JetWash's lighting enhancements yet so that should get rid of the tree and shadow pop-in, but a commercial PC game shouldn't require a third-party mod to get it to look modern. If you enable the HTTP API then the TSW Route Annotations mod seems to work fine. Haven't tried TSW Passenger Announcements yet.

All-in-all, I'm glad I followed my own advice from a few posts back and went for the free upgrade as it really seems each "version" brings along fewer bugfixes and features than the last.

Free starter pack for me ATM. Have not played the game in months for various reasons.
Initial impressions are that the game has taken a decent step forward. The UI is awful, and the colour choices are beyond bizarre, but the graphical upgrades get a big thumbs up from me. At 2k resolution, 100% screen, DLSS in Quality mode, everything cranked up to max except the sky, my 4070 super is hardly breaking sweat, running around 40% usage. Using smooth motion with FPS locked at 50, but playing at around 100fps. Granted, this is on an older route (ECML), but the picture quality and lighting are a huge improvement. Biggest plus for me, no shimmering fences, grates etc.
Virtually NO pop in out of the box. No mods or messing with ini`s. FINALLY !!
So far so good. Adding other DLC slowly, but steam is downloading really quick this evening. Lets see what happens as I add more layers.

Jetwash Lighting is built in, just enable it in the settings. Nothing to import.
Make sure View distance etc is set to epic. On the 3 routes I have tried, pop in has been virtually non existent.

Oh, that DLAA - it looks absolutely amazing at native resolution. Before, you had to set the render scale to 150% or higher to get an image like that, and even then, there was still some blurriness. Everything looks so crisp now, there’s no need to crank up the sharpening anymore. And thanks to the lower resolution, the frame rate increased noticeably.

Yeah i can confirm that! I can run everything at the maximum setting with Smootmotion 50fps doubled to 100 fps, my (refreshrate) and i have a super smooth expierence. My RTX5080 is using less power..... The over all expierence on TSW7 is way better with better graphics.

It is enabled and all my settings are set to Epic where available. I'm used to playing TSW6 with JetWash's Beast mode settings, I can't imagine that's what DTG have imported...

Strange. The lack of pop in was the first thing I noticed.
Just tried DLAA as well. My word. What a difference. DLSS is good if your struggling for FPS, but DLAA is on another level.

    More testing tomorrow.

Very impressed with the improved lighting, DLSS/DLAA and frame rate.

My laptop can't handle all the epic settings, but my native resolution is only 1080p anyway so that's fine. I have draw distance to Epic, everything else to High except medium shadow quality. So far it looks and runs great with all layers active.

My only major beef so far is the tutorials are dreadful. E.g. in the Class 333, how do you recover from TPWS emergency brake? How do you fix faults like the HVAC breaker? Beats me cause it never tells you. Maybe DTG could invest their savings from using AI slop voiceovers to have it actually teach you more stuff?

Honestly these improvements are worth the price of admission by themselves imo. Always-on safety systems, auto conductor, and live weather all working much better after the day-one patch.

Really hope for our console friends they can port some of this graphical stuff over.

Overall I like it a lot so far

It’s exactly that, infact it’s more demanding than the mod. No need for ini settings anymore.

So far so good, Put my 3 JT routes, TvL, NTP and the the two steam routes back unticked everything else. Got Epic settings at a pretty solid 30fps with DLSS on with my venerable 3080, thats running 4k also. Just dropped the sky to very high, looks like some decent optimisation has taken place long over due. Not bothered about the UI colours being a bit ropey as to be honest would rather effort was put into keeping the simulation running better.

Someone found this in the files of the tri rail route!

    A GP40MC, in MBTA livery.

What i find especially weird about this, is that i made suggestions on the DTG forums and here, of the MBTA Haverhill Line. A WEEK prior to this appearing

what an odd coincidence that is.

Same here. Now I settled for the free version I fired up Preston to Crewe and had about 20 minutes on it. At 1440p with DLSS doing the 4K upscale getting close to 30 FPS. And that’s on the first run with shaders compiling and a few more DLC’s downloading in the background. Still getting the odd sound squelching on the 86 though not as bad as before. Definitely running better than in TSW6.

If DTG had made a better choice of routes for the core pack (and the UK one hadn’t been built by Rivet), then I might have stuck with the Deluxe version. But, let’s face it, most of us already have so much content in the game you could play for weeks or even months without revisiting the same route twice. For the UK route alone there are so many better choices they could have made to increase the pack sales - North Wales Coast, something in the Scottish Highlands, South Wales Main Line or the Metropolitan Line. For a real treat they could have given us the combined Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways - even with compromised steam physics, that would have been Day One.

Xbox Series X, full timetable, all layers & 4k… Got the free starter pack & had a few runs on Crewe - Preston - B’pool. No problems, just the regular shadow pop-ins. AI Guard Mode, Auto Safeties & Wide Angle Camera are great features. Just hoping that Jet Washes improvements can be implemented on consoles, all these things are a massive step in the right direction, thank you !

Lampoil says no to such stuff. Enjoy EMU commuter routes with one handle. Although the Skipton end is quite scenic....

Once again, I have all my settings set to maximum and I'm playing in 4K at a near-constant 60fps... I'll have another look this evening and try different routes to see if it varies. I think the worst offender was Blackpool Branches which is hardly an ancient route.

I'm surprised to see such a difference between TSW6 and TSW7 in that case, I've been using your settings for a couple of years and hadn't seen track shadows loading in front of me for a long time. I thought Ultra and Beast were for high-end machines, will this not kill performance on lower and mid-range PCs?

If I brought TSW 4 for my Steam deck, if I purchase the free starter kit for TSW 7, can I get the dlc that is on sale for TSW then transfer (redownload) those routes for TSW 7?

Yes, TSW 4 content will carry over to TSW 7. Just be aware that the Steam store on the Steam Deck is currently not showing the Free Starter Pack. Valve are aware and investigating as this seems to be a bug on their end.
For now you can use Desktop Mode and go to the Steam store from there as a workaround.

    See attached photo... 20260916_001419.jpg

Is anyone else getting this where the speed limit number gets partially hidden behind the word "Distance"? Didn't see that in TSW6.

Just to add something to the "downloading all my content" thing.....I get it, downloading hundreds of gigs of data every year is crazy.

This is something that I never knew until today, and it's something that I don't know how many people can take advantage of, but anyway.....

Yesterday I downloaded the starter pack and the cheap addon I brought the other day (NY Stamford for £3.29) and had a play, today I decided to have a play with cloud gaming on PC, didn't have a pad with me so downloaded a keyboard and mouse translation plugin so not having a pad didn't matter, and I noticed that, despite only having a single route addon downloaded, everything I already own appears automatically in the cloud without downloading anything.

FWIW, it plays extremely well on cloud gaming.

Great someone with the same problem. I'm on Ps5 and the camera movement is terrible compared to TSW 6. I have tried the 3 settings and their all just as bad as each other. At least I still got TSW 6 installed.

On series X it looks and performs no different to 6 or 5, same mip mapping issues, same texture pop, same wonky shadow draw.

Another thing I noticed is having the safety systems turned on automatically means you don’t earn the extra points for enabling them as you would’ve done before. This means getting gold instead of platinum at the end of a service. Another oversight and inconsistency in the game.

It basically is the same game, just with a worse UI now that wants to blind you.
To be fair dynamic weather seems improved, but really on console that’s it.
