Personally I'm not interested in the scoring. But surely just turn the enablement off if it affects the scoring and it bothers you.

Wouldn't be surprised, if it's just some automatic script calculating and setting the scoring goals and messes them up colossally. I hope so, because I can't imagine someone activly setting them up manually and thinking "yup, that makes sense" :D

Personally I don't really care about the score and hide it in the UI.

Well yes getting points for driving under the speed limit or for pressing a button seems ludicrous. Surely it should he based on how well you drive and if you keep time.

It would be better like TSC with a maximum cap on every run, so you either gain or lose points according to how you do, but never get more than 1000.

That's definitely not been my experience - with the safety systems 'on' as a default I've received the safety systems bonus as usual.

Ok thanks maybe just a one-off then. I’ll try it out on other routes.

Definitely something odd with the safety system toggle though, I haven’t noticed any issues with scoring (that I’ve noticed - I keep the AP counter off, but haven’t had unexpected golds or less).

What I have noticed is that the systems are on even before you key in & set the reverser, so you do an AWS test sequence as soon as you spawn, followed by another after keying in. Seems to be fine for the TSW7 units, but so far the HSTs, 90, 150, DRS 66 & 171 have all done that for me. I presume if it’s on all of those, it’s on most others too.

I’ve also noticed with the AI conductor that they’ll only buzz you on TSW7 stock too, nothing from before that (unless it was already implemented). Seems a shame.

I actually like the new UI but the text on the Formation Designer page is only readable from about 2 feet away ! …& this on a 42” 4k screen & my eyesight is fine ! 91caba31-9ab4-4d53-9d10-7bbda464dc1d.png

    Encountered a few passenger issues.
At Grantham on ECML, all the passengers appeared on the platform end in one big blob.
At Paddington on GWE remaster, no passengers anywhere. Nobody in the station, All trains empty. HST Service to Reading.

Yes, this changed with the day one patch, along with the increase in size for the destination marker (if you have it displayed). I would imagine it's an unintended consequence of one of the day one patch fixes.

Bit the bullet, installed the free update and downloaded my UK DLC, also picked a couple of others up in the sale (West Cornwall, WCML South, Over Shap and Flying Scotsman). The UI is horrifically bright. A dark mode can't come soon enough. It looks great in 4K, but I'm playing it safe and sticking to HD on my Series S. It imported most of my completed tutorials and achievements over from TSW6, which was odd. Another odd choice is deciding that we need to get back to the main menu faster, but then the main menu doesn't work properly until everything has loaded in properly, rendering the whole thing a little pointless. I'll wait and see whether the deluxe goes on sale sometime in the future, or pick up Airedale-Wharfdale and the 333 at some point.

I've not done a run properly yet. that's probably tonight's plan. Hopefully activating layers wasn't a mistake.

Well, if you think a fix is imminent...
This is the TSW2 menu that Mr Peddlesden said it would involve "too much work" to put right..and to this day you still have absolutely no idea as to where the cursor is when trying to manually alter the weather conditions.

This looks like an oversight with not testing the font scaling changes on every aspect ratio...

Ditching the entire concept of diagonal movement might be the most adventurous leap in game input design since the Kinect.
Time will tell if it is as successful...

They had to make everything in the UI slightly bigger to pass the Steam Deck certification.

Epic settings for clouds and draw distance only. 5 year old PC, running on 4k with an AMD XT6700 and it's just about okay but I'm getting a warm breeze from the GPU. As mentioned above, only expect Epic settings to work across the board if you have a decent, modern gaming PC.

For the rest of us, we do at least have a little more control and can adjust that draw distance up if we lose things that aren't so important.
It'll take some time for most PC players to find their system's sweet spot.

But this has made my mind-up, it's time to start saving for a new PC.

Well just installed the free upgrade and had a couple of tries on Blackpool and Crewe to Preston to see how it looks and runs........

    WOW!!!!!!

My machine spec is as follows.....
    i9 14900HX
    RTX4070 8gb laptop card
    32gb RAM
    1tb SSD
    32" 144hz 1440p monitor

In TSW6 I had resolution set to 1440p and everything except sky to their highest with screen percentage set to 125% and fps limited to 30fps with Nvidia Smooth Motion knocking it up to 60fps. I had Jetwashes lighting mod installed and a few other edits via Godmode for each route. I would get around 60fps most of the time but busy locations it would drop to 30fps. The exception being WCML South and Crewe to Preston where i would get crippling drops to 10-20fps around Wembley and Warrington/Wigan.

In TSW7 I have resolution still at 1440p and everything except sky and shadows set to their highest (Shadows is on high and sky very high) I also have the enhanced lighting enabled. I have enabled DLSS to Quality and fps capped at 60fps then I have SM enabled and VSync set to adaptive within the Nvidia App.

All I can say is it looks stunning and performs brilliantly. At Blackpool with a busy station and carriage sidings it was rock solid at 120fps. At Crewe heading North it was running at around 100-110fps and the infamous Warrington only dropped to around 40-45fps for a short period whilst passing.

The new enhanced lighting is stunning!!!! My run North from Crewe was set at today's date at around 5:30pm I think and the low sun caused a gorgeous haze when travelling just as you get when driving your car I almost reached for an imaginary sun visor on top of my monitor!!!!!

I now see how people with super machines and running at 4k have been seeing the game for a while now and I'm loving it!!!!

Just a question for anyone that creates liveries and scenarios. Do you guys still have everything you've made in previous iterations, because when TSW7 fully launched, I've been denied access to all of my liveries, formations/consists, and scenarios to edit them or play them. When I say denied access, I mean they're literally not there, it doesn't make any sense because it was all there in early access, but now it's gone. Does anyone else have this issue?

In which case the industry standard way of doing this is to make it DEFAULT to the larger version, but RETAIN the smaller text for people on larger displays to have the option of toggling to when setting the game up.

    158 on MML.
AI guard in realistic gets the buzzes all wrong, but in Always seems to work fine.

If they'd included the KWVR it would have been a flagship route worthy of the name and probably swung it for me .

Also on PS5 and experiencing the same. Also, if you’re speaking to the team about UI, please can we have the minimal HUD objective distance ‘barber pole’ back too?

Funnily enough, I have everything except for shadow and sky quality on epic, and dlss and getting a fairly consistent 60 fps with a 2080TI.

I played for 5 hours. I hauled freight cars to Miami, went to the countryside on the Niddertalbahn, and drove a heavy tanker train from Würzburg to Nuremberg on the BR145 Expert. I'm happy. If the release of TSW 6 after TSW 5 left mixed feelings: what's new am I getting? But now I see the changes with my own eyes. New coverage about The new lighting is excellent (although 2 of the 3 runs were in rain or cloudy conditions). FPS around 100 and higher with FSR Frame generation. Probably the best release in recent years.

I'm glad to hear that people on better-specced PCs are having a good time. I'm on Xbox Series X, installed the free version last night, started playing some of the routes I already own and felt this thought creeping up on me, "why am I bothering?", and switched it off. The console version is looking more and more like a dead end, not helped by the woeful experience of switching from one version to another.

The console version is inferior, with more stutters and audio broken on one of the best routes AGAIN.
I’ve redownloaded 6 and am playing that until it’s sorted out

I'm getting that too, but it's not just the text on the track monitor that's ridiculously large - also on the timetable/schedule popup (T key). On PC (Steam).

I have always found aliasing / shimmering on objects such as the OHLE, metal fences and some distant foliage to be very distracting. When I fired up TSW7 for the first time this evening it was pretty bad so I had to go into settings and check how anti aliasing was initially set up.
Instead I came across the DLSS option and decided to try it out. Must admit I had no idea it could improve the stability of the display so much. No more shimmering, I’m very impressed.

Well, credit where credit is due because I've just been playing a purchased route on TSW7 on the Steam Deck and (with a little help from Lossless Scaling & a switch to TAA) it actually performs extremely well. Sure, it was just the updated Island Line but I easily achieved my target 60fps + a silent internal fan with just a surprisingly small amount of tweaking when using the 'high quality' preset. Not something I'd really want to play on a small screen though but it's still nice to know it's an option.
The only thing I didn't like was the truly horrible analog stick acceleration curve but that was pretty straightforward to put right.

So yeah, well done to those who put in the effort to get TSW up and running on the deck....and is there any chance you can get a transfer to the console team?;)

(ps) Praising Dovetail Games AND purchasing a Rivet addon....I'm seriously losing the plot.

    • Image quality is a solid improvement on past TSWs with the combination of DLAA, JetWash's enhanced lighting and Epic foliage.
    • The AI Conductor has a mind of its own and likes to open doors on the wrong side on Cardiff Commuter which is the only route I've played so far. Also it should give two short presses of the buzzer, not a single long press.
    • I get good performance at 1440p on a 2080Ti with everything maxed except shadows and view distance. If I max those I have to drop DLSS to Quality which results in too much ghosting around fine detail for my liking.
    • Something for RTX 20/30 owners to be aware of is setting DLSS Performance or Ultra Performance activates the DLSS 4.5 presets which don't run well on these older cards. Overriding to always use Preset K via the Nvidia App does work if you want to try more aggressive upscaling.
    • DLSS High Quality is not a valid setting, it applies the same scaling as Quality. High Quality should be removed as an option.
    • UEVR still works nicely and having DLAA provides a much clearer image in VR. If anyone wants to copy my 'VR optimised' quality settings from top to bottom it is Epic, Low, Ultra, Low, Ultra, Off, Low, Epic. (Basically to maintain high VR framerates I have to reduce the CPU demanding settings)
    • No crashes yet but like others I hate the UI!

Interesting, I have a RTX 3050 which was superb with TSW6 but TSW7 is actually performing worse than 6 did with my old GTX 1650 card. Best to stick with Quality, then it seems at least?

DLAA, Quality and Balanced settings are fine by default they use DLSS 4 rather than DLSS 4.5. Balanced will give more FPS. If you want to try Performance mode then to actually gain performance you need to add the main game executable to the Nvidia App and force Preset K (the .exe buried within the subfolders over 80 megabytes in size).

I have a RTX 3080 FE and am using DLSS Quality with most settings on epic and have capped the fps at 36(1/4 of 144) and it’s running really well.
TSW is by no means perfect but at least no more flickering fences etc and vegetation pop in so am enjoying it. Yes there is still the loading hitches and sound squelches which spoil things a bit and the pain of not being able to load shaders in before running a route so more should be done.
I was always moaning that there should be an AI guard where applicable and really glad to now see it though still needs tweaking so it behaves properly.
So all in all not bad at all but let’s hope things get patched quicker in the future.

As I posted elsewhere, Realistic is a misnomer. If you want it to work on older routes and trains, including slammers, then you need to select always. Then it's just the same as the old basic key presses.

I was doing the Farewell scenario on the HST thing last night and it wouldn't let me leave Paddington until I turned the AI conductor off. Probably didn't help that it asked me to close the doors while the doors were already closed.

Matt explained in a stream that realistic means the guard will operate doors on services where the guard does that role in real life; but there are services in real life when it's done by the driver.

Except I'm no expert, so I can't tell you if having to do it yourself on Blackpool route is actually realistic.

I can say, however, I completed my first run on the Tri Rail route and the AI conductor successfully handled all the door operations on realistic setting.

Part of my problem with the "realistic" setting is that I don't know which routes have conductors who close the doors "in real life" and which don't, so I don't know whether to expect the doors to close or whether I have to do it myself....

Exactly, I'm in the same boat. It would be nice if this was identified in some way.
