I won't be able to play it until Saturday at the earliest.

But has anyone on PS5 checked to see if any of Just Trains stock can spawn into any routes on free roam?

It would and if course some trains won't be set up for realistic settings.

I've set it to all for now.

I’m quite specifically having spawning issues in free roam on PS5, which I wasn’t having in TSW6.

Can’t seem to get anything to spawn on the new Leeds line, went to ECML where I usually spawn things for railtours or just mileage runs etc, again couldn’t get anything to spawn there.

Didn't matter if it was JT, DTG, Rivet etc.

So far the only success I’ve had is spawning things into the training centre, that did include JT’s 87 & 142.

More strange font choices found on the TAB key. Both little and large.

With regard to the AI Guard, the 142 from Blackpool Branches works and so far seems to work very well (unlike the 331/333/80X from TSW7 which occasionaly lock up and require you to go down and sort it yourself). Just like those units you need to put the reverser into neutral for it to work :)

Also just a quick shoutout to the DTG team but thank you for having the pause/escape menu go to the "overview" screen again like in TSW4 :)

That certainly doesn't seem to apply to older routes, I had the same thing with a run on MML set to realistic and I had to open and close the doors myself. Presumably every older route with slam door stock will need to be updated (or the rolling stock) to work when Realistic is selected.

I forgot about the AI conductor - I turned it off after doing a short (well, there are no long ones!) run in the 153 in Cardiff and kept seeing the doors opening randomly on both sides at different stops !

And yes, the menu UI is almost a throwback to TSC :D

If I recall they did say that older content would need to be updated to work in realistic mode.

That's why I've selected always as I rather I didn't have to open the doors at all than have it turned off, even if it isn't always realistic.

Lol well sometimes a compromise has to be made. It's not as bad as seeing a class 40 in Preston in 1986 ;):D

There are some differences on how the AI conductor works when it is set to "always" and "realistic". When it is set to "always" the game acts as if the "Y" or "U" shortcut keys were used to open and close the doors, and that works on any train.

When it is set to "realistic" it will try to operate the controls in the doors (like opening the control cover, insert the key, press the "open doors" button, etc). That doesn't work on all the trains, only the ones that are set up to work with it. This means only the TSW7 trains are guaranteed to work with it.
Some of the trains that had conductor mode in previous versions of TSW might work too, but it is not guaranteed that they will because they weren't made with the AI conductor in mind at the time they were made.

Of course traditional slam door stock in both the UK and Europe differs in that boarding or alighting passengers will generally open the doors themselves and sometimes close them too, with station staff or the Guard then walking the length of the train to close any left open and check none on the "first catch", as we used to call it. I suppose that would be quite complex to simulate in realistic particularly as, 1. Passengers actually teleport on and off the train and, 2. There is no visible Guard or station staff.

Ah well may I draw your attention to this image sir ;)
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/northbriton/10187856614/

Thinking about slammers, perhaps one could assign three or four doors per vehicle as "active passenger doors" so the passengers will go to those, as for closing, maybe just have them close behind passengers when they get on/off and also have any stragglers close by an outstretched arm coming from within the unit to simulate another passenger closing it so the train can get going?

Fair enough I had forgot about those. However I assume it hasn't just come from Scotland with a rake of Aircon mark 2's!

I just think personally the chances of seeing them are too high not that they appear at all.

Haha no that's fine and I get your meaning, I just wanted to poke fun as I knew there'd be a photo of at least one there from 86 ;)

The funny thing is, we all have differing levels of "suspension of disbelief" which I suppose makes it nearly impossible for developers to satisfy everyone. I could pass off seeing 1-3 40s between Crewe and Carlisle, unless they were on aircons of course, as in my head it's not exactly 1986 but some time around then so little anachronisms pass without issue. Having Peaks regularly passing through Wigan though, nope I'd have to put my foot down on that one (not seen that yet but just an hypothetical example). It's the same argument those have who want to see Pacers subbed in on NTP, or 150/2s on Blackpool Branches...

I have to say, the update to TSW7 is a truly worthwhile one - the best in quite some time - even if you don't want any of the DLC and just get the free version.

    Great DTG! :)

I’m still amazed at how good TSW looks now with DLSS, and how even older - semi-good routes like the Maintalbahn - are fun to play again:

The heavily weathered 363 really stands out now.

    20260918133107_1.jpg

Setting the "Foliage" option to "Epic" virtually eliminates the "popping" of trees and bushes; likewise, the level of detail for buildings can be increased so that they, too, no longer visibly shift in detail. Sure, all of this could be tweaked via the .ini file using mods, but having it work "out of the box" like this is far more convenient.

    20260918133247_1.jpg

I am satisfied at the moment. :)

They'd have to create whole new timetables for them, set in a different era.

Lol that's fair enough and I know I'm a stick in the mud about it.

The being able to disable layers has gone some way to help but unfortunately on Shap to remove the 40 you have to lose the heavy freight pack and thus the trip working around Carlisle.

    I've lived with It anyway.

really is such a shame all the fancy DLSS/DLAA stuff isnt on console, but oh well, thats hardware compatibility for you I guess.

I really hope enhanced lighting comes soon to console, under the right conditions, it can certainly make any route look 100x better from the screenshots I've seen.

For me, I consider it a different timeline where the class 40s hung around for a couple of years later for some reason lol.

Being pedantic, D200 (40122) did run until 1988 and was a regular sight at Carlisle.

PSSR is basically the same thing and available on PS5 Pro, also for the non pro and Xbox FSR4s RDNA2 port should be coming early next year, so maybe TSW8.

Apologies in advance this has probably already been answered. Works been nuts and I haven’t been able to check up on the state of tsw 7. Rather than shift through 41 pages of posts how does it preform on the Xbox series x? Decent or save your money?

It sounds like a save your money situation. Which is a damn shame because on PC it's great.

Or get the free version and see how you like it, then stay on 6 if it’s no good for you. No need to spend any money at all right now if you’re not that bothered about the new routes, but plenty of time to play with the settings to see how it works for you.

Plus, getting the new routes a few weeks later (or not touching them during that period) saves you a lot of suffering from those early bugs :)

I don't often pay much attention to his channel but the TSS review of TSW7 did catch my eye because he's dropped the "brutally" bit from the description and I felt obliged to have a quick peek to see what his overall thoughts were. Turned out to be a decent watch....with the ultimate irony being that he'd quite bizarrely dropped the word for a review that was actually, erm, pretty brutal.!!
    It's a funny old world:)

I've just downloaded TSW7 and have to say that on my PC it's running better than ever. Very little stutter and a smooth 60FPS with DLSS and Epic settings on 1080p. It's my favourite time of year in the TSW calendar - mainly because I can pick up the DLC from the last iteration at a cheaper rate - mainly Medway Valley and Librec-Stara Parka this time around. Just fired up Librec and it looks stunning with enhanced lighting and almost feels like playing a different game to TSW6.

Reading this thread it definitely seems like a story of some winners and losers and I do feel sorry for console players and those with less powerful PCs. I was fortunate to jump ship from PS4 to PC at the end of the TSW2 lifecycle - I remember playing Munich-Augsburg on PS4 and that was a dire experience but looks like I made a good choice in the long run. I do feel for those who have amassed a large DLC portfolio on consoles who are still struggling with blurriness etc. Hope DTG help you folk out in the longer run.

I have to say, after playing TSW 7... I fell sorry for the artists working on this game... The textures they create, yes some of them are bland, repeating... but some of them are (I think) gorgerous, with lots of detail (i.e. the grafity ones)... And we never got to experience them, becasue they all got smudged with vaselline called TAA... for years,

I played the MBTA Commuter today.. And I never realized how much detail is in the tunnel at Boston Bay.. the chipped wall, water damage, rust, even bolts in the beams are modelled....All that got smudged in previous versions. We actually never trully saw artits work as intended...
It's insane how much of a visual upgrade 'just' switching the AA tech does... Thanks to DTG for backporting it from UE5.

I am fully intending to do a full alphabetical playthrough of all my routes, just to see if I can spot the extra detail as shown above. Having finished my run on MV and set up the sweet spot for graphics, now having a crack at Preston to Crewe again. Settling at 30 FPS with just the odd pause or stutter which seems to be a thing with JT routes anyway, could also be the shaders compiling or the fact I have more DLC downloading in the background as I play.

I can confirm that 100% and see it the same way. All these years, we never really saw many graphics that looked truly great.

The Maintalbahn station building really has a distinctive structure.
    20260918140548_1.jpg

    The same applies in Emskirchen.
    20260917130832_1.jpg

Or a small car in Preston where you can even see the manufacturer's badge. Great.

You could never have noticed that before, because of the muck.

If by "skill" you mean mastery, then no. No more new routes will be receiving masteries

Frankfurt S-Bahn is looking nice with the new lighting and - bonus - the save game appears to be restoring on load rather than causing a UE4 CTD as in TSW6. Well that was from within the game, need to test on a clean start of TSW7.

Wonder if that means the issue with save/load on GWE remastered when running the new timetable, which actually locked up the PC, have also gone away?

So, I've had a couple of days to play it, On PS5. All UK stock I own is downloaded.

The game for me, is frustrating. I'd love for safety systems to switch on automatically and after I thought I set it up.....nothing.

The controls are sluggish, if I'm on outside camera mode it seems to have two speeds, as slow as a snail or warp speed. There's no in-between. If I'm walking I seem to hit invisible objects every few seconds...but only for a second and then I carry on walking, it's the same if I'm running.

When I'm in the cab, it takes an age to move the cursor to where I want, then have to click more than once on something I want to do, such as open doors.

The 150261 bug on Riviera line is still there, AFTER A YEAR!!!! Yes I know there's a work around, but I shouldn't have to do that.

I think I've done two complete services on Wharfedale lines, that's it.

    Oh and one scenario.

This game is supposed to make me want to play it over and over, it's doing anything but that.

Safety systems are switched on by default, so if you’re switching them on again then perhaps you’re actually switching them off which is why they don’t seem to work …?!

Totally agree with your comments about the responsiveness of the gamepad on PS5 and Xbox - it’s horrible, and DTG are aware of this and apparently looking into it.

The Safety systems are all off, as I always check first and they are all isolated. It's possible though I'm not doing it right at my end.

So last night I had my first run on TSW 7 streaming from the PS5 (using its own software) and to be honest the performance was good. I was using my 160+ DLCs as well and it didnt take as long to load either. Although I didnt download Arosa or Benina Linie and their associated DLC's as I dont like them.
There were the odd framerate drops Mainly on Great Western Express Remastered. To be fair lieterally every platform had a HST in it at Paddington. I ran a service from Moreton on Marsh - Paddington. It was a good and busy run. I have to say the lighting on the PS5 seemed to look better, I was using Live Weather. Rather enjoyed the other routes, Sherman Hill, Airdale & Wharfdale, GWE Remastered & Dresden Chemnitz (which literally was running at 60fps all the way to Dresden.

I was also using my old proile of 1185 which I lost and couldnt import into TSW 6 last year as it broke. Seems wird that I can now import it in to TSW 7. But TSW 6 it just didnt want to know.

Same as TSW6 settings, but DX12. 100% render + DLAA instead of 130% + TAA. Looks much better, also performse better. Some DLAA glitches are present, but it's classic.

I did have a quick look at TSW7 during the pre-release period, but tomorrow will be my first proper session.
Job no.1 is to fiddle with the settings to see how far I can push my prehistoric GPU.
Job no.2 try an older route and see how it looks with the new settings.
Job no.3 leave it all set-up and go out to enjoy some very nice late summer weather. So it's all set up for the many less summery days to come over the next 6 months.
