UI is also affected. Just turn on/off new lighting and UI will change color, becoming more brown.

In a bit of shameless self-promotion for Medway, a little reminder that Medway Valley is on sale and a demonstration of how good for the route and TSW 7 looks, here’s a little video that encompasses all the above.

    Enjoy

Medway Valley || On Sale Now || Epic Settings | Enhanced Lighting | DLAA | Smooth Motion | 4K

EL seems to turn all/most of the clouds into random triangles and rectangle-ish blobs without much depth and it's generally a bit washed out/overexposed/too bright/etc for my taste. The game also seems a bit foggy, as if the TSW person needs to clean their glasses (if that makes sense). The screenshots should explain it a bit better though, all taken at the same time of day and with the same settings (except for EL and engine.ini tweaks of course)

IMG_2026.09.21-21.22.20.jpg IMG_2026.09.21-21.54.14.jpg ini vs enhanced lighting - EL is a lot brighter and whiter looking with some weird clouds
IMG_2026.09.21-21.22.43.jpg IMG_2026.09.21-21.55.30.jpg again, ini and then enhanced lighting, this time with an overcast sunrise - EL has a very flat looking sky with little colour

An overcast sky is flat looking with little colour, the image on the left is totally unrealistic. I certainly wouldn’t wish to change anything that makes it look less realistic.

As I’ve said though, further work is being done on this that does help matters under cloudy skies.

I agree that the image on the left looks flat and a littlr bit cartoonish. However, the image on the right is heavily affected by a gray haze that desaturates the picture. Look at the sky - it has lost its color and turned gray.
I'm talking about the daytime shots. I have no complaints about the night ones - the second one is much more realistic.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it’s because that image has been taken into sun when the bloom is there as the sun is low. It is not grey.

Is it just me that has awful night time lighting with TSW7?

At first I thought it was because London Brighton was old but then Crewe Preston is the same. Black sky but everything else looks like it's dusk not between 10-11pm

Both cabview shots are taken without the cab lights on too.

How can it look stunning in the daytime but this bad at night?

Which doesn't stop the sky from being blue in the first screenshot. I checked in-game, and the colors really do wash out significantly with certain weather presets. And I’m not talking about full overcast conditions.

Is TimeOfDaySystem.LowerHemisphereSunLightIlluminanceMult=0 still work? I don't see any difference at sunny day.

Yeah, that’s the reason. It’s been like that since launch.

The first two images are from a TOD3 route so nothing to do with enhanced lighting.

The latter two don’t look like anything I’ve ever seen in the game. Can you give me some repro steps so I can take a look, because that doesn’t look like night should.

Sorry JetWash It was a total schoolboy error on my part............

I forgot I'd enabled RTX Dynamic Vibrance the other day when running in the daytime to give it a little extra pop. Obviously when running a route in the daytime it looks great but at night it does things like this. Once I had gone into the Nvidia sidebar and dropped the intensity slider down to 0% it returned the night back to how it should be.... Nice and dark. (Even on London Brighton but obviously not as nice looking as Crewe Preston though)

I'll have to get used to switching it to 0% for night runs and the 25% I had it set to for the daytime.

and another thing in addition to that is with enhanced lighting there is this haze in the distance that makes it harder to see upcoming signal lights clearly especially during light clouds/mid-day or late morning drives especially with german signal lights.

also I had to switch back to TAA+resolution scaling from DLSS/DLAA as there are too much graphical glitches going on with DLSS enabled like in tunnels the digital displays on some trains go fuzzy and as you come out of the tunnel everything goes blurry ...

Enhanced lighting has its place and does look good in terms of distant scenery but still needs to be improved in some places especially the haze issue.

Loving the EL, especially with clear/overcast skies but I too have seen that slightly misty effect with scattered clouds. However, sometimes it's absolutely fine (no mist/haze) with scattered clouds, so can be a bit random. As an aside, would be nice to see some different types of cloud formation, such as what we see in the AP packs for TSC, or what we get in ETS2 for example. Weirdly enough I actually quite liked the high cirrus clouds we used to have in the older TSW variants, very realistic looking.

The sun haze is one of the best parts for me. Being someone who drives 25 miles to work along motorways and at sunrise/sunset for a lot of the year that’s how it is. That annoying effect when you have trees alongside and the haze flashes in and out. In game it’s pretty much how it is in real life at certain times of the day/year.

I almost wanted to reach for a sun visor on the top of my monitor. :)

What I've noticed recently is that I've actually needed to use the sun visor in game to reduce the glare when driving towards the sun, pretty realistic!

uhh no I was not talking about sun godrays , the haze I meant the fog like atmospheric effect that happens in the distance not the sunrays
    the sunrays are pretty good

Not exactly related to this but ive been using the mod that makes the tod3 routes use the tod4 lighting, think its a czech website mod, anyhow it seems to make the routes much better at night except the bakerloo, with it enabled it makes everything really dark and actually works better without the mod, I guess its either put up with the rubbish tod3 lighting or add and remove the mod each time to play the bakerloo which seems like a faff, unless anyone knows a way around that, love all the lighting but I do feel that having one specified for each route was ideal so you could tinker it, i guess you could still but seems like adding more work then is needed with it incorporated into the base game.

The first two pictures, a few clouds and blue sky on the left, a golden sunlight cast over the ground and train. That represents what I've seen from my window here this morning. In fact, more clouds than that, some of them quite grey, but the patches of sky in between an even more brilliant, slightly deeper blue than that. The comparison image, however, looks like it might appear through a filter.

The second set of images I'm not entirely sure about.

So far actually playing what I've tried of TSW7 myself, I don't recall thinking any lighting looked off, but I need to play it more.

That’s nothing to do with enhanced lighting though, it’s always been there.

As I’ve said numerous times though, what you have is version and there are improvements coming to what is already there. This is not the extra work I talked about.

FWIW you can see the current WiP in this vid I posted above. The aim is to make the rays more subtle and I’ve adjusted the colouring slightly.

I love the god rays. I know some might not, but I think they enhance the look as in other games.

I noticed this too on select routes when it comes to large terminals and night time runs. Two in particular are New York to Trenton and Boston Sprinter where in some instances the can of the train/ADU and the catenary wires and fence objects will shimmer or become a bit glitchy. I can't pinpoint what the exact cause of it is because some older routes handle it better than others. (Example: harlem line handles it well) although being 1year older than New York to Trenton.

Ah, also, just to note that view distance on Epic on the Ingolstadt route is a huge performance dropper, I have an RTX 5080 but it's getting 36 fps looking outside and is maxing my GPU out; it's probably still reccomended to set that to High, even on higher end systems. When I did that, instantly went back to locked 60 fps, every other setting is maxed. Maybe view distance can be lowered in the vanilla Epic settings (specifically for that route) in a future patch? :)

I just use Godmode to set r.ViewDistanceScale=2 for that route, Epic settings uses 3 and High is just 1. It's a good compromise for me on my 3080.

Good idea! I feel like there's a lot of unoptimized scenery going on in that route still unfortunately, I hope it will be fixed.

Yes it's definitely one of handful of routes where the performance just gets obliterated by epic view distance, Semmeringbahn was one that used to be brutal if you increased it on TSW6, but it seemed to be a lot better in TSW7 from a quick check. I haven't done an end to end run on it yet though to check it thoroughly.

Yep, and that issue at East Coastway due to Epic shadow settings at Brighton, which is actually something new that didn't happen that also needs a fixing as well.

It might, but Epic settings will not be made less demanding, the whole point of them is they are demanding, and we can’t be turning them down because one route runs poorly. When I did the mod using GodMode Ingolstadt would have been a route that had lower settings, but that option isn’t available here and we can’t be lowering the whole preset for one or two routes.

If you’re struggling on Ingolstadt drop your DLSS setting from DLAA to Ultra Quality and it’s fine, at least that’s the case for me.

What already mentioned by nekochanryan the best solution for me is to lower the view distance scale... This route is poor optimized..... The problem are the trees and other vegetation. They used own models and they build it with a high level of detail so better they do something about it. DTG Lukas

I didn’t realise Godmode was working with TSW7?

is it the existing release or a new release I need to download?

Existing release. The latest version for TSW6 works on TSW7.

Starting with version 0.7.0, it automatically works on new routes. The game engine hasn't changed, so it works perfectly in Part 7.

Fair, I guess I'll just keep a lower view distance since it doesn't really affect the driving experience when I use a somewhat lower view distance setting on this route anyway. :)

There is one thing I noticed, and it was during pre-release: if you 'gave up' the active service that you spawned in on & sat in the secondman's seat, the AI driver instantly disappeared. I'm going to check to see if that behavior is still happening...

Maybe there's still room for an "ultra" setting between high and epic for view distance? I definitely feel like I have quite a bit of breathing room on my hardware on high, but epic definitely is too much of a leap.

I do wonder sometimes why some settings jump straight from high or very high to epic without an ultra setting in between. (For me it’s the shadow setting that springs to mind)

Is that the same for the shadows setting too as that jumps from High (or is it Very High) to Epic too.

Thanks for the tip SpookieWookie with route-specific setting in the Godmode-Mod. I'll try using this on Stara-Paka, it has a really dense and beautiful vegetation, but the epic distance settings kick its fps into the ground and I had to go back to "high" where all is nice and smooth. At least on my 5060-Ti. The other routes I tested so far can cope mostly fine with it, except for some short sections.

Agreed, there's a perfect stop gap too, epic has the view distance scaling at 3 and high is at 1, ultra being set to 2 would be perfect and it's what I use through an ini tweak.

Im really struggling with track shadows in my game. Its becoming immersion breaking.

Im on PC and play on the highest settings (epic) for everything but the rail shadows still seem to pop in a short distance ahead and not in the far distance.
I had a heavy modded ini for TSW6 and it seemed to work.

On TSW7 im playing with both my own ini and also testing using a vanilla version of the ini. The track shadow pop-ins are still there either way. 20260912134416_1.jpg Track shadow.jpg Track shadow.jpg
Whats the best way of me fixing this?

    Huge thanks

I’m seeing the same issue: track shadows popping in and grainy/shimmering scenery in the distance.

I believe it started after the latest update, although I’m not 100% sure. I’m running an RTX 5080 on Epic settings with DLSS/DLAA, and I’m pretty sure the image was razor-sharp when TSW7 launched.

On routes that don’t have the new track shadows there’s nothing you can do.

I have seen this too but figured it must be because of an older route somehow. Good to have it confirmed. As with the rest of the game, it looks great on all routes where it works.Thank you for clarifying this, and have a great weekend.

Personal opinion, but all routes should have the track shadows enabled. It’s a massive shame they don’t because the outliers really suffer as a result

    Ah, cheers for the clarity.

This was from MAC which is a fairly newer route. I wouldn't consider it oldschool.

is there a ini line we could add or modify for that?

    huge thanks

Nope, weve been able to modify our ini for years and a revision is possible. I have a current modified ini file for TSW, as do others, specifically for ballast, lensflare and passenger behaviour. so yes, we are going to ask.
