I've been looking at the current British routes in TSW and have thought to myself, what locomotives could we see here that people would really enjoy? After some research and such, I decided that the class 313 and 171 would be a great addition for the current East Coastway route. The class 313 is a fairly old EMU that has seen work along this route for decades and is very nice to see in southern green livery. Because it's an older train it would probably be a little harder to drive than the class 377, so It would make the drive alot more interesting and give the people that want a challenge, a challenge. The class 313 only runs to Seaford now unfortunately but it would still be a really nice addition, it could easily swap in for the current Brighton - Seaford and Brighton - Lewes services (and the return of course).
The class 171 (basically a class 170) would also be a great addition. It's a DMU (which we haven't seen much of in TSW yet) that would change it up a bit from the current class 377 ( EMU) that are alot easier to handle. It also has a cab with alot more visibly so we can fully see the lovely scenery of the East Coastway rather than just a rectangle in front of us to look out of. I believe the class 171 works in 2 car, 4 car and 6 car trains.
I would really love to see either (or both) of these trains come to the route so we have something different to drive on the passengers duties.

I like the BR class 313 for the route, that would be lovely to see especially as Southern probably won't be keeping them for to much longer. The class 171 however only operates between Eastbourne and Hampden park which just wouldn't make any sense to add the train to.

And? So is the class 47 on NTP. Is your point that trains must be current in order to be present in TSW? Ridiculous if so.

NTP is set in the 80's, when those ran. East Coastway is set in the present day, so... yes, it would be unrealistic and kind of out of place. Unless they went through the effort of backdating the route, and there is no way they'd do that

I think a 313 could work, though, in fact I wouldn't be too surprised if DTG's already working on it

You could do the class 313 in southern coastway livery

A 313 would be great and would add some variety to a route which needs it. I would love to see a class 423 which would have been common in the 80's and 90's, however the route has been modernised since then and I don't think would work with older stock, not if you want realism anyway.

I think it will make Brighton a more lively station than just one version of traction (377 EMU)
Plus The 313 has: older interior, older cab and older systems aka door operation
And the 171 is technically a streamlined 377 and is (in some ways) unique

It is a shame they didn't model the route pre 2015, as then you could then have ran the Electrostar and slam door stock (not together) with relative accuracy and therefore made the route have a slightly wider appeal as it could have represented a larger cross section of eras.

Same with GWE if they aren't going to bother energising the OHL, then they could have set it before the wider electrification had happened but after Heathrow Express you could have had had stock from Network South East days right up to First Great Western.

Yes I can understand that, I don't mind it but there seems to be little scope (or interest from DTG) in expanding it, yet I think it still looks very good, better than some of the later routes.

Personally I would like them to either electrify it to Reading so we could then have the class 387 and 800 with the HST still putting in an appearance and the 166 on Oxford services for instance, or regress it back a few years.

They would have to set it in 2018
But it was electrified to Maidenhead then straight to didcot
We could set it in 2019 and get 166 high speed services to Oxford
And London to Greenford services. If they can they could reuse all the assets from this GWE, put in the redone GWE and edit it. e.g. platform length, station platform appearance and more

Matt said "it's set in 2010". I doubt it if it was set in 2010 the 313 should of been added with no excuse. Did Matt really say that???????? If it was set in 2010 like you say it would of been false advertisement as they sold ECW as a modern day route. On what social media platform did he say that??????

Well I don' think most people would classify ten years ago as historic! The trains on ECW certainly wouldn't have changed so 2010 or 2020 I cannot see much difference, certainly not for talk of breaching the trades descriptions act, that is fairly petty!

Anyway it can't be 2010 as the route was re-signalled in 2015, and the route depicts it in its re-signalled state, maybe Matt said the 2010's!

Unless of course you think that 2015 is not modern day either, if so then I bet your local trading standards office love you for your pedantry!

The Class 313 is on the TSW 2 Roadmap and the 171s is a really good idea for a loco add-on.

Class 171 would have been a good add on, except they are only now being operated from Eastbourne down to Ashford International. Would much prefer a Class 73 for RHTT trains or driver training.
