I like the atmosphere of the tube and the realistic colors of the trees. But I really dislike the lack of reflections on the train bodies. For me, it looks dull.
Well I never... maybe in future I should make it a rule to always, repeat, always check the Dovetail Live Article Discussion section before I dare post another word in the forums. I mean, that kind of mistake could get me posted to the Eastern Front quicker than you could snap your fingers... Thanks for that warning, I suspect you will get a medal or something shortly...
I just think it's beter to have all comments in one place rather than one official and one "unofficial" thread, nothing more. Don't take it that hard, it's kind of weekend and summer, relax
Looks good! This is a personal thing, but I prefer the cabs to be worked-in and weathered. Right now it all looks to clean and new. No biggie though.
There are reflections in the windows but the bodywork is not as shiny and reflective as the trains in TSW pre-HRR. That was the time when the mirror-like shininess stopped appearing on new trains (except for the BR204 which doesn’t count because it was by Rivet and was probably started before the change to these new style finishes).
There is ‘some’ reflection of light, it’s not a completely matt finish for sure, but that isn’t as shiny as the trains used to be.
They will be photoshopped remember. DTG’s screenshots are always photoshopped. Either way, if you’d told me they were from TSW I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. It looks no different.
They aren't photoshopped. No filters, colour grades, tweaks to contrast or any other tweaks have been done.
Fair enough. This time Will this be the norm going forward? They look good but honestly to me, no different to TSW. The lighting still looks all wrong. In that first image the two trains are far too light for the surroundings, which doesn’t bode well for the sort of improvements I think many of us were hoping for.
This is from a much different angle, and much closer to the train, so not really a good comparison. From a lower angle you get more reflection, and the ICE3 screenshot is from a greater angle.
I am no expert in these matters, but as a simple lay man, I think they are pretty damn good... as a point of comparison here are a quick handful of mine in TSW2020.
AARGHH the sky!!!! All looks awesome...but the "cappuccino sky" (milk & coffee) need absolutely to be improved.
Nope. I believe the sky is exactly the same. To paraphrase the stream they said “there are no changes to the graphics in TSW2 except for the changes brought with the upgraded UE4 version”.
I’d love to be proved wrong. Please show us where it says TSW2 will have new skies, rather than that the existing skies will look better with the updated engine...
https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/about-trainsimworld "Optimised and upgraded visual fidelity also gives Train Sim World 2 dynamic skies and 4K support." They also mention it in the TSW2 Q&A. It's the only graphical enhancement for TSW, but it's there. From what they said it's supposed to look much better than the current skies, but we'll see. But whether it's better or worse, TSW2 is getting new skies, to answer your original point.
This COULD potentially make a big difference- the skies in TSW are awful and make everything else look worse IMO.
Well true. Judging by these screenshots, the clouds really do look much better and more realistic. Even though all the images have only light clouds (or none at all), they do look really great. Hopefully other cloud settings are this pretty as well. It makes sense to spice the graphics up with them, and also I suppose they got bored of having ot photoshop new skies to every add-on promo screenshots, lol.
Well sorry, but no. It doesn’t say TSW2 has new skies at all, but confirms what I said above. It is talking about the engine changes making the current skies look better (and that specific point was alluded to in the online Q&A stream. I had a quick look yesterday but couldn’t find it I don’t have time to sit through the whole thing again). What that quote refers to is not a dynamic changing sky. Look at the screens on the Dovetail Live article (particularly the CSX shot), the clouds are exactly the same. I don’t get 4K support bit either; TSW could be run in 4K. DTG’s marketing department are always putting stuff out there that the Devs then have to spend defending when reality doesn’t meet expectation. It’s amazing how many times ‘customers’ hear what they want to hear, rather than what’s actually being said.
Matt explained in the Q&A stream that there are three layers of clouds in the new sky instead of one and when there is the orange glow on the horizon in relation to the position of the sun, the clouds now take on that colour too, whereas they didn’t before. It’s definitely a new sky.
Well, I’m afraid I disagree. He said that those colour changes are as a result of the engine changes and the way it deals with light, and not developer changes to the graphics. In fact, he specifically said that they had made no changes to the graphics at all. The use of the term ‘dynamic skies’ implies something that isn’t happening.
