Unfortunately you won’t get the choice to use the old TSW HUD in TSW2 as it is completely replaced by the new one. Earlier reports of having both available were made in error and it is only the controller schemes we get the option of choosing between.

Yeah, I agree. The signaling is something that I've just recently started trying to learn because, like you said, it's much more accurate and it shows you what's coming up at least two signals ahead. Also, for immersive reasons, I feel like it's the best way to go. Speaking of that, is there some way to make sense of the breakdown of the lights, or does it just come down to memorization?

Most follow some kind of pattern, but there are a few that you will need to memorize.
I found this guide pretty useful:

Preferably even more, as in some situations the speeds may change quickly depending on where you're being sent to. I'd like to see all upcoming speed changes within a certain distance (e.g. within the next 1000m) being reported, even if that means it displays 4 items there.

Much appreciated. I guess I'm just going to have to sit down and do some digging on Google to try and make sense of the progression of the signals.

Can’t wait to hear about traction propulsion sound of the BR403/6 because the one from the BR182 was a mess

I noticed that too, but I wanted to ask to get a clear yes or no. I think it would improve the realism of the game.

Yes I agree, I really like that they are giving us the information on length and weight. With the new system that allows the wagons weight to actually change with unloading/loading I’m guessing that even passengers will make a difference. I especially like that for instance we get the weight of an unloaded freight train and then after loading you can pause and the weight will reflect the full wagons.

And that could also be applied to refuelling a diesel engine. Diesel fuel weighs quite a lot and a full tank versus a less than half full tank is a big difference in weight per engine.

The signals tell you where you are going matthewbguilford , LiquidShadows , so your route knowledge kicks in and you can slow down for any adverse speed restrictions in a passenger friendly braking sequence.

Driver route knowledge is key so "learn the road", it takes time to learn the crossovers, speeds, signals and shunting moves etc. All part of the Simming.

Yep, but real drivers have a route book that tells them where are the speed limit signals and what the limit is. I have been in the cab with drivers, and some of them have the book open next to the controls, reading the info while at the same time keeping an eye on the track and the controls. It is not like we are asking for something here that is not done in real life.

Yes, we have route charts to assist learning, but having the route map out when driving along simply isn't done IRL though. To drive a route in any country on any railway on any loco, a driver must be "passed out" on absolutely everything.
I think the driver you were with had a railway sense of humour (if you know what I mean).

The real life drivers don't know what they are doing. You do know what is acceptable and what not, and you are gonna tell them so they can learn.

I am a real train driver telling you how it is in my profession and if you don't believe me, then ok.
I'm leaving this here sorry Inkar, been burnt before trying to help on these forums.

OK with me. Btw, just because you do things one way in your company or country doesn't mean that it is not done different in another company or country.

With all of these innovations coming along, here's hoping that user manuals and tutorials are going to be expanded and improved as well.

I do understand that the signals can explain a lot of these things once you study a bit, and I think the fact that if you seek that information that you can use it in TSW and I think that is great! I do think for the people still learning or the ones who don’t have the knowledge having something like the speed limit that you could turn on or off on the hud could be helpful.

A fair point bro. There perhaps needs to be a community based route map pdf showing the speeds of x overs etc. I know the game doesn't give the correct indications and scenario signage is missing (as IRL on occasion). The Network Rail route diagrams are available online still I think?

Yea, if you scroll to the bottom there are the pdfs.

I bet we could find them, that is one thing I really like about this community. Whatever knowledge we need people are willing to help and make charts to help and a lot of the community is willing to learn.

I know a guy who works for CSX, and while he runs a very easy route (minimal speed changes, sidings, crossovers, etc), he keeps his route map and driver manual on him at all times in case he needs a refresher.
