    Hi,

I have been playing TSW for about three months now and find the head lights to be a real bug bare of mine. I avoid night time routes because they are feeble and don’t really illuminate as I’d expect. Even in tunnels, they seem to illuminate the tunnel walls but never the track or path ahead of the train. Surely their purpose is to illuminate the immediate track ahead sufficiently so the driver can see any oncoming obstacles.

Are there any settings that I can tinker with or is this just how the game has been set up?

Is anyone else having this issue?

no if you watch some cab rides more nearer to now the lights don't really illuminate in front instead they are there to allow people to see the train. that's why train drivers need good eyesight.
look at the beginning of this cab ride where the driver goes through the tunnel

and here is a cab ride in the night on a hst

the headlights are more so there for track maintenance personnel to see them

    Thanks for the videos.

I’m too used to having the bright glaring lights of the Airbus A330. I never realised that was the primary purpose of headlights on a train

There is also a bug with TSW2020 on low shadows that brakes the headlights projection. Try setting them to medium and see if anything changes for you. In my case, I was able to enjoy a night ride once again.

Must be a European thing. In the US train headlights are very bright and illuminate the path well. Freight locomotive headlights are especially very bright!

In germany, the drivers of high-speed trains are permitted to turn off the lights at night outside the city, so they don't have to see when they hit a person!

This may seem like fun to you, but I very much doubt that the German policy "sees" it that way.

Of course it's not fun and I was definitely not meaning it!
Edited my post to avoid misunderstanding

No, it's a signal and regulated by the "Konzernrichtlinie DS 301". It's not allowed to turn it off.
