I'm a n00b, only a few hours old. Been through all the Academy things. Bought Sherman Hill because the Big Boy was one of my dad's favorites. I can't seem to get to the destination in Sherman Hill Intro. The manual switches won't get me there. As for the other switches, I can't seem to convince anyone to throw them for me. I've used G and clicked the icon for 'throw switch ahead', all to no avail. For the switches that I request to be thrown, I'm not sure which are going to be thrown, and the icon becomes enabled at strange times. I've RTFM - several of them, and can't find any explanation of how to make this work. Would appreciate any help.
You can click on the points in the 2D map (key number 9) if they won't change then they are likely pathed for an ai train by the games dispatcher and you'll have to wait until that a.i train has passed that point. another way to change points is by being directly in front of them (i.e. no points in between your loco and the ones you wish to change) and pressing Key G (or Left Shift + G if they are behind, sometimes you think you're in the front of a loco when actually you are in the second cab and so in the rear of it, not so much an issue with US stuff though probably) Alternatively (and my preferred method) you can free cam (key number 8) over to the trackside lever and change it by clicking directly on it, this way you can actually see it change in the 3D world (and then watch your train roll by). If there is no lever then they are automated switches controlled by the games dispatcher but you'll still get the switch icon appear, though whether they change or not really depends on a) what type of scenario it is, i.e. career and standard scenarios won't let you route off path to what the scenario intended, b) if a.i. has priority, and c) if the scenario is broken (does and has happened more frequently than we'd like tbh) Not sure if any of this helps you or I'm just telling you what you already knew but hopefully something in there will set you right.
