Hi, I noticed a weird thing on the departure from Koln with the ICE3. The initial speed limit is 40, right. Then on the track, the speed limit is 70 but on the HUD it becomes 60, and two times the speed limit on the HUD goes up to 140 before coming back to 60. Is it a bug ? And another thing on the same service, before arriving to Aachen, there is a speed reduction from 160 to 120 in a really short distance between the warning speed (the triangle) and the effective limitation. I begin decreasing the speed but I often get an emergency brake with the PZB (and I don't need to acknowledge anything in this case because I made a test where I reduce the speed way before the warning speed and it's ok, but then I would have to play with the speed limit on the hud, or to apply a very strong brake...)
Hud is not reliable outside of the main line, for speed limit around stations use the signals. Usually the priority you need to have in mind is this: 1st) signal speed 2nd) track side sign speed 3rd) HUD Speed. Exception in Main Spessart Bahn where 2 track side signs are wrong and indicate a wrong speed limit. For the signals: A number in a box below the signal is the speed limit (x10) that is enforced from the next signal, where you will see the same number appearing inside a triangle above the signal. For example: If you encounter a distant signal with the 10 in the little box below it you'll know that a 100 km/h speed limit is enforced from the next main signal In fact I encountered this signal a couple of hundred meters further up the line and it indicates a 100 km/h speed limit is enforced after this signal. In this case it just happens to be that the HUD speed and the real speed limit match but it's not always the case. Remember, the HUD speed is always the less reliable piece of information about speed, since it only indicated max track speed while the signals "know more" than max track and usually due to in game limitation if you follow closely the HUD you'll end up not driving realistically. Also remember this signal if it has no number associated to it (so no number in the little triangle) means a 40 km/h speed restriction and is preceded by this distant signal (Is the same if you encounter the other type of distant signal - the ""diagonal"" one). So a signal with a green and a yellow means a speed restriction, if it has a little number associated with it that number (x10) is the speed limit, if it has not any number than the restriction is to 40 km/h Little numbers can be seen under green signals as well and those also impose a new speed limit. If the number is in the little box below the signal it's a warning that the limit is enforced from the next signal (which will have the same number appear in a triangle above the signal). One thing I haven't figured out is when the speed limit ends, I would guess either if you encounter a new speed limit sign which clears you to go faster or, for example in SKA as soon as you clear the junction and are back on the main line you can start accelerate back again. I highly reccomend checking the Ruhr Sieg Nord and Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr manuals that go decently in depth on the signalling which you can find here https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/articles/article/tsw-help
Wow thank you very much for your great explanations and your time, it's really helpful Today, I noticed a new thing on the ICE service from Aachen to Koln at 11:42. Maybe you can help me to understand. Everything is fine until I get in the middle of the LZB part, the train slows down till stopping at a red signal because there is a regional service with a Talent 2 on the same track ahead. But shouldn't they be separated on the high speed line ?
They aren't actually the tracks on the other side are the ones used by the S-Bahn. This one seemed very odd to me as well at first but I guess that's how that section works
