I too had issues with the latest updates and found that KB4579311 was the offender that caused me nothing but grief, so I unibstalled it and everything seems to be good now.

Out of curiosity, if you tried it, did updating from there make a difference?

I don't even know what version I'm on, it's been completely stable for me so reluctant to force update, is there any benefit in doing so?

It makes no difference. I updated from that very link. There is no US or UK version of windows. They're all the same.

Then you're on an older version. Try Start button > Settings > System > About .

So back to my original question, is there any point/reason to update?

Security, and with windows 10 it will eventually push the update any way, so there's no avoiding it - there's nowhere to hide :) There are no features in this update that you need. Apparently touch screen and tablet users get some nice features, but desktop... meh. There's better syncing between Win and Android devices apparently... if that's important but other than that... there's no great rush. Just let the MS Nazis force it upon you when they're ready.

Yeah pretty sure my security updates are up to date as it does auto check and update them itself, assuming that's what this means anyway..
    Image6.jpg

I'll wait, as I'm a firm believer in if it aint broke, don't fix it..

Yeah, you're fine. It will push 20H2 when it's ready. Don't worry about it.

Easiest way to find the windows version - Windows key + r/R - type in "winver" - OK - that's it! Or, winver in the search button that looks like a circle on a stick.

Your question surely should be -"is there any point/reason NOT to update?":)

I don't recall saying I cannot use it. I said it is no longer the easiest way to check which version you have. That would now be win+pause.

Sorry, I misunderstood your response, but as far as I know winver shows the specific info about the windows version, I couldn't see that on the windows + pause break - am I missing something?

yes.. you're missing the latest version of windows that now allows you to access that information (and more) by pressing win+pause :)

    Winver still works though...

    Screenshot 2020-10-27 21.26.01.png

As does the control panel version.
    Screenshot 2020-10-27 21.27.17.png
20H2 consolidates both of those into the panel in settings now... I think it always did actually, so perhaps more accurately, it now can be directly accessed with win+pause.

    Thanks for the info!

Hang on... you ARE on the latest version. Build 19042.572. Oh well... if you cannot use win+pause, then there is something amiss with your windows install ;)

Is it something that's been disabled? You appear to be on a works computer where you do not have full admin privileges according to your screenshot.

But NOT on 20H2 (I am on Version 2004) - which is a progressive worldwide install by Windows that has not reached me yet!
It is not a works computer - it is one of the vagaries of Windows that you can't correct except by a new clean install.

I've been having issues with the game crashing just about every time I'm in a scenario after anywhere from 2 - 10 mins.

    Current version look to be:
    upload_2020-10-28_19-1-58.png

Should I be looking at updating to 2009 as per the link in this comment from Pookeyhead ?

No.. it will almost certainly make no difference whatsoever. This thread came about because someone said they were getting blue screens of death generally, not anything to do with TS, and asked if a windows update had anything to do with it. If TS crashes while in a scenario after a certain amount of time, I'd be suspecting a thermal problem before anything else (unless the same scenario crashes in precisely the same place every time). Have you checked your CPU and GPU temps while in game? IS TS the only game you play? Does anything else crash? Is your machine stable? Have you stress tested it?

Just a guess but are you exiting the game between each scenario? Running scenarios back-to-back without quiting the game can cause crashes.

That really should not be necessary. I never do, and it's very rare I have any issues.

If you're bothered... you can force the update here... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Have you tried fixing it in the group policy editor? Personally, I'd just nuke it, and start again... I'll assume you're fully backed up, yes?

Sorry for the delay, I went to the site, but I was not sure what to download so i clicked help and typed "update failed" I was told to open command prompt and type sfc/scannow It returned system errors and repaired them I did another update request and all the failed updates down loaded and installed .

    Thank you so much
