Following the update to IoW on 3 November 2020, the acceleration of the 483, whilst in Forward 1 seems more sluggish. There are moments on the route where the train barely accelerates and other parts where there is a sudden surge of power followed by quicker acceleration. Completing the first scenario, I arrived at Shanklin over a minute late, in part due to an unforgiving timetable and in part (I think) because the train feels slower. Has anyone else noticed this? It appears to be the same to me. The train is sluggish in Forward 1 as it changes up to the next power notch quite late. I haven’t tried Forward 2 as I could keep quite close to the timetable in Forward 1 (on a timetable run). You get the surge in power when it changes up a notch.
I was getting power surges in Forward 1 not Forward 2. I’d see the power go up in the HUD and the train begin to accelerate quicker.
It seemed the same, at least the acceleration out of Ryde Pier felt the exact same and hit the same speed at the same time as before. Brakes released, forward 1, FS, just managed to clear the 15mph limit as the speed got to 16 just before the last update
Yes that’s right, in both Forward 1 and 2 the train notches up in power at certain speeds. In 1 it notches up at higher speeds (later) than in 2 but you will get the power surge when it notches up, whichever you are in. It was like that before the update. When you put the power handle all the way to Parallel, the train actually stays in Shunt up to a certain speed, then notches up to Series and stays there until another point when it goes into Parallel. You are basically setting the maximum step it will go up to with the handle. The difference between Forward 1 and Forward 2 is how soon it notches up. Forward 2 notches up at much lower speeds and gives you better acceleration sooner. It’s like the rate switch in the 1972 stock.
