Do you feel a bit more excited when a third party dev releases new content just to see if they bring new ideas and smoother frame rates to the table, we basically know what DTG offer, I do look at third party products with a bit more interest to see how they use the tools available and if they can actually enhance the product for present systems not new generation systems that automatically benefit from better frame rates anyway While the game will always be basically the same core gameplay, I’m sure different dev teams will have different ideas and priorities on what’s important for their own products and how they achieve those ideas
Well my only experience of third party games is with Rivet and the IOW and they didn’t exactly impress releasing the game without timetable times amongst other things.
Fair point but wasn’t you a bit more interested to see what they brought to the table? Obviously until third parties release we don’t know if they will improve on the formula or not
I'm with SBos here. Sorry to sound like a broken record but IOW is still not right on playstation with the missing/broken trophies. I've asked if its on the Roadmap....ignored. The BR204 also came out from Rivet and there was a backlash until more services were added. Now, it feels like a more complete DLC. However, PZB doesn't now work for the 204 so it's still not right and I have asked if the safety systems missing are part of the Roadmap item on Safety Systems but again have been ignored. As a simulator, I'm sure that 204 would be grounded in real life if it didn't have it's PZB functional ;-)
I understand but your completely missing the point, I’m not talking about after release I’m talking about BEFORE release and whether there is more excitement to see what other devs can do with the game as well as DTG as we basically know what to expect from DTG but a new route from a new dev brings brings new expectations or does it?
I was really looking forward to IoW from Rivet, but then it released and there were a number of immediately obvious problems which I must admit really annoyed me. I’m still disappointed IoW isn’t properly sorted (e.g. missing trophies on PS4) and it’s disappointing that Rivet haven’t been more open about the work they’re now doing to put things right - which is seemingly taking a long time. Not a great first impression.
Now I know Rivet don’t release things right then no, no excitement for me at all. I didn’t completely miss the point. I think if you had asked this question before anyone but DTG had released anything I would have said yes. Now I have seen 3rd party stuff I’m not excited at all
There is definitely the opportunity there for the other devs to do something in a different way than DTG and that in itself is fairly exciting. There could be a different focus to aspects of gameplay. There’s not a huge amount of flexibility in what can be done with the core game but there are plenty of little things that other devs could add to the trains and routes just to make thinks a little different. How good is their imagination? Can’t wait to find out.
I agree, that the point I’m trying to make, it’s interesting to see other devs spin on what they can do with the game as well but yes it would be fairly limited if they are sharing tools with DTG
Looking forward to Skyhook's rendition of Cane Creek. We'll be able to compare their AC4400CW and SD40-2 with the SPG versions. I assume they'll be new.
I doubt the locomotives would be new, seems a waste of resource to make the same things twice. It’ll probably just be the route.
The ac4400s and the sd40s would bascially be the same train but with a different livery as they would be in real life. It would be a waste of time to recreate the same train twice.
I wouldn't say I'm excited with third party content now if we use what rivet have done with the 204 with the lack of services and no pzb and the mess that IOW was released in. Not a great first impression for a new third party route
Yes. I was excited when Isle Of Wight first came out. (Upset about the bugs, but that was fixed pretty quickly). I’ve noticed no stuttering, a stable frame rate (when the passenger lights aren’t on), and track noise. I think the third party devs have more time to work on the routes/Locos more. That gives them the chance to include things DTG wouldn’t (like track noise), and optimize the route.
I'll give them that but at the same time surely some of the issues were clear as day and yet they released it in a not so good state
As I’ve just said, at least they actually fixed it. Imagine DTG. If they did it, there would be no track noise, and most of the things wouldn’t have been fixed as fast as they did. It’s unfortunate that the Route released that way, but now they know that they need to test on consoles before release.
True. In the case of dtg, you'll be lucky to get a fix in 20 days. It takes dtg months to fix what seem like minor issues. I also why we can't get proper track noise in routes but a third party can easily add track noise?
Track Noise is my biggest issue. The Bakerloo Line should be mad loud with the track noise, but it’s non-existent (except on crossovers). LIRR should have it as well. Not all track is continuously welded.
I'll give the bakerloo line a slight pass as they couldn't get proper audio because of covid, but the long island railroad and quite frankly most of the preserved collection routes should have track noise. It makes no sense that we don't get that. TS2021 in all it's routes nonstop but tsw2 can't
Depends how accurate they want to be I guess. I think UP had different trucks and either CSX or UP was heavier- can't remember which. Talking about the AC4400. Might drive differently.Think I'm being too picky?
I heard for cane creek that there is only ONE SERVICE PER WEEK. Now if that is actually the case then I don't get why they are making that route if there is only one service basically for a 35.8 mile route. Hopefully that is not the case
1st, Dovetail has made various changes to locomotive models to make them somewhat closer to their real life counterparts, this is clearly seen in the EMD GP38-2, as the CSX,UP and CN are all slightly different variations of the base GP38-2 (The CN version doesn't even have Dynamic Brakes). 2nd, the AC4400CW that comes with Cane Creek "SHOULD" be slightly different than the one that comes with Sand Patch Grade, as the CSX one is equipped with Self Steering Trucks, a feature that only CSX and Canadian Pacific ordered for their AC44's . Also Union Pacific rosters 2 different variations of the AC4400CW -An earlier version, with nose mounted Number boards and lower mounted ditchlights (Some are ex-CNW units) -A later version, with roof mounted number boards and ditchlights on the anti-climber. (Some are ex-SP units) Here's an example of both variations leading the same train. The only thing I expect to be the same are the sounds and the physics.
