It does highlight the difficulties in getting mountainous terrain looking right with the limited texture palette and awkward terrain painting system. It's better than no Kyle Line at all, of course, but my abiding memory of it is running through an avenue of constant trees which just aren't there on the prototype, at least not in the era being depicted.
Indeed. TS just doesn't do stuff like that well. There's a ReShade plug in that allows selective colour remapping that helps, and also RW Enhancer Pro allows you to vary the vegetation colours a great deal more. Even with these, routes like the Kyle of Lochalsh just look pretty old fashioned. TS does urban stuff much better.
I personally think Stainmore is well worth that much. There is plenty of track, plenty of custom assets and a large amount of stock to run it "out of the box". It is well detailed and you can tell it is a labour of love, I think it took around five years to complete. It is what I love about this simulator being able to recreate something which vanished sixty years ago. I second your comments about the Welsh Marches another quality route. I am looking forward to their Cotswold line.
Thank you the organist for your comment on SSE and I too am looking forward to the Cotswold Line and JTs future highland line.
Does anyone know the situation regarding refunds??? I bought the 455, went to install it & it said I already had it...!!! (since 2011 apparantly)... Can I get a refund on it??? Eric
Looks interesting but think I want to see screenshots of how they've done the moorland and mountain scenery first. Though most of my trips across that section were on the Glasgow to Inverness and vv overnight trains, connecting for my trip up to Wick and back.
I think the policy is that once you have revealed the code, they don't refund. Can't hurt to ask though.
Why the hating on Kyle? It's got its faults, but don't you find the very different scenic parts (lowland agricultural, highland and coastal) makes for an interesting drive? Line speeds are quite interesting too with a slow crawl for the far end and a reasonably fast run into Inverness?
I don't hate it. I just think it looks terrible. The TS game engine just doesn't do routes like this any justice at all. It's way down my list of favourite routes to drive as well. Perhaps rubbish was a strong word.
Pookeyhead, wait until next year when the route is extended through Inverness to Perth. I think then you will like and enjoy the whole route.
Is it going to be an extension or stand alone? Apart from a few freight moves using the avoiding line Inverness is a terminus with no thru passenger workings
for what it says on its website in both ways: Highland Main Line will be available as a 'stand-alone' route for Train Simulator 2021 and also as an extension for the Just Trains Kyle Line - Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh route.
That's true currently, but I don't think it's always been the case. The Kyle line could reasonably be any time after 1995, it's not changed much. Do modern charter trains and specials run straight through?
It has always been the case at Inverness. Different types of trains operate over the mainline and the Far North & Kyle branches. I was on a charter train which did the avoiding line at Inverness then reversed in to the station. We then had a 4 hour break before heading south overnight.
AP sales are normally unannounced and only last a couple of days so keep checking their social media outlets, cannot remember AP having a Christmas sale last year but the Steam sale last year began on the 13th. However I believe it is later this year and the Steam Winter Sale 2020 will be from December 22 to January 1 Armstrong Powerhouse had a massive “Thursday Powerhouse” 50% sale at the last Thursday in November last year but they have informed me that it won’t be repeated this year. Cannot see steam doing better than the current DTG sale which ends this Friday 18th. So if there is anything you want get it now. Also the Just Trains Xmas sale begins this Tuesday and runs until 7th January 2021. It is the season for sales
Just Trains Sale is now on, nothing on my wishlist of course.. Oh well sure someone will get something they were after.. https://www.justtrains.net/category/christmas-sale-2020
Just Trains 15th December to 7th January 25-50% discount https://www.justtrains.net/category/christmas-sale-2020
I literally posted that right above your post 8 minutes earlier, so let me get this right, is there a Just Trains sale on or something?
The link you posted was the same apart from all the unnecessary text at the end from Facebook www.justtrains.net/category/christmas-sale-2020?fbclid=IwAR1d2rvxPJKbuMSYazFCBCTvnaPH-xT1aJh9LZPhJH7MBycqwhnt2Hx_sV0 And the dates of the Sale were in the second post
Fair point I could have trimmed the fat off the link, but the link still works nonetheless. And the dates were in the post immediately prior to my post so didn't see the point in repeating it in the very next post..
Guess what!! There's a Just Trains Sale https://www.justtrains.net/category/christmas-sale-2020 As lack lustre as usual though. Just 10 products.
Tbf to Daytona I was being a little unfair as it is his thread so he was probably just keeping in with his decided format.
ChrisTrains will be having a SALE starting Thursday 50% off all items and All Webshops - like Just Trains https://www.christrains.com/en/index.html Nothing for the UK enthusiasts here though Peter
Just picked up the JT Class 20 pack... Looking for anyones opinion if I need to get the AP Class 20 sound enhancement pack also or if the JT sounds are adequate??? Thanks in advance... Eric
Have a look on YouTube for the JT Sounds... there are loads of videos of it. Compare them to the AP sounds (Video on their website) and decide yourself. The AP ones are better IMO, and they're only £4.99.
The ChrisTrains Christmas Sale has started, all Train Simulator add-ons HALF PRICE until Christmas Eve!
Steam sale begins tomorrow 10am PT, 1pm ET 6pm UK 7pm Europe As for what games will have huge discounts, I don’t know what the line-up will be but there’ll be certainly be plenty of extremely tantalising deals.
I thought it started the 23rd. It's a day early, then. My area is going back into COVID lockdown after Christmas, so I will definitely be working on my videos and playing stuff.
I have never understood why Steam starts its Christmas sale before Christmas. Why reduce your prices during peak demand?
Steam Winter Sale 22nd Dec - 18:00GMT 5th Jan 20-80% DLC list - https://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Dovetail Games - Trains [Edit - Thanks for the link 749006 - I knew there was some way of listing all the content, but I couldn't remember how] DLC by category - https://store.steampowered.com/dlc/24010/Train_Simulator_2021/lists/
Wherry Lines has been on my wish list for a while so happy to get that for half price. Not related to Train Sim but I was disappointed to see that OMSI 2 London wasn’t discounted. Even with the base game discount, it would still be 45 pounds for the two so that might have to wait a bit longer.
If you prefer not to look thru each category separately but just view the entire list use this link https://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Dovetail Games - Trains You can sort by name or Date Released
