The editor is not useless even if you have no intention of ever using it. I’m sure at least 75% of people who wanted an editor on this forum are likely not devs themselves and would never use the editor seriously as a means to produce and release content. Most people want a public editor because (based on how the original TS turned out) it will lead to many third party developers producing quality payware and freeware that doesn’t have to go through DTG.
He was talking about the livery editor not the "full" editor if one ever became available. The point being made is that even if someone finds something "over hyped, trivial, useless and a waste of time" that doesn't mean everyone does. I will never use the livery editor as it doesn't interest me but I don't think it is useless. Same with multiplayer, it doesn't interest me and I think there are other priorities but I still hope one day it becomes reality for those who want it, as it can only be good for the future of the hobby the more people who are attracted to it. Some posters will decide whatever it is is trivial and a waste of time just to put the boot in.
"Most people want a public editor because (based on how the original TS turned out) it will lead to many third party developers producing quality payware and freeware ." Nailed it.
Just like Sam's driving one moment full power next E-Brake and stopping half-way off the platform. Whiplash and spinal column injuries guaranteed. Whatever it is I am either going to go oh wow or meh its good but not for me. Not going to be disapointed just maybe this feature might not intrest me as much as ones later or maybe it will be the best thing since sliced bread. (Exculding BR era refreshments.)
Yeah im really looking forward for this. For TSW1 there were mods for some routes to have at least a fitting static one but I wish for a interactive one, too. But, to be honest, it's no dealbreaker for me at this time Good idea anyway
I know you will anyway as you do, but yeah you can. I'm that confident it will be something completely redundant to a train sim.
On the Q&A stream they said more about steam than I thought they would. Sam said when it comes out it will have lots of guides and documentation to support it and they will show us the development steps so we can follow it as it is developed. Now if they weren't going to do this or even think about it currently, why would they have those sort of concrete plans in place?
Yep exactly so project 1 could be the documentation of the creation of the capability to do steam, project 2 would be the documentation for how to drive a steam train etc.
Is he throwing us a Red Herring though! I certainly hope it is steam just not sure if it isn't a bit too soon.
Not really followed this thread so I've no idea what we may or may not be getting. People should just enjoy the game and wait for an announcement or Roadmap update. It's more of a surprise too.
I think we will see a couple of new things "in planning". Since the release of TSW2 they did not add any new routes and I guess hardly any new loco to the in planning section. And Sam's secret might be revealed as well. What are the chances of steam loco? I'm not expecting it since the wheel motion blurr must be fixed for a proper steam loco. So for a steam loco they either have to go the "Forza-path" or we need another unreal upgrade. I think both ways are quiet unlikely since Sam said that the Forza-solution isn't a good one and they are not currently working on a UE upgrade
I heavily doubt it honestly. Skyhook has done other work not train sim related, so this new title doesn't have to be specifically something related with trains. DTG is not just a Train Sim company as well, as you know they also have fishing games (for which Skyhook did some work) and they had a flight sim division up until last year. So, for what we know, DTG is probably just the publisher of whatever Skyhook is doing, as they already have been working together for many years. Plus, I heavily doubt Sam's secret project isn't something directly done by DTG. Also, he said this secret would've appeared on the roadmap, so it's almost surely a new feature/something related to TSW2.
So in just over a week we've gone from useless and trivial to a completely new game, and over the past few months we've been everywhere in between. I think you guys have really hit the nail on the head.
Strange why so much interest about an unknown function. there is no info at all to go on High risk of people being disappointed here.
Yes people should definitely be careful of having too high expectations - I remember the PC community being burned from a previous hype which turned out to be console releases (which of course is a big update - it was just not relevant to their current PC playing community). I think that Sam and the team definitely know about this though and are managing it well.
Simple solution: Don‘t expect anything. I enjoy speculating about Sam‘s project a lot, but I still don‘t expect anything good or interesting for now. I‘ll either be overjoyed if it is something good or nothing much will change for me if it doesn‘t turn out good. Just to clarify: This is not a backhanded attack on DTG. I‘m not implying you should not expect anything good from them, but life is simpler if you don‘t get your hopes up without concrete evidence.
It's Sam I feel sorry for. Expectations are so high. Anything he delivers will only be a disappointment.
Because this community seems hellbent on reading between every line and speculating on every little detail.
Myself, I will be hugely let down if it isn't the full length of the Trans-Siberian Railroad (at all historical periods), and which also walks my dog every morning.
That’s what makes this thread such fun. The fact that we have a new entry into the chart with two and two being put together to come up with something that fits the way in which this has been developing (official posts, not the speculation) that adds a new thing it actually could be. Add it to the list. Yep, that’s what we like to do. Guessing (which is all we’re really doing) is fun. As for the several posts that say it’s bound to be something disappointing, then I suppose if anyone is actually expecting it to be the perfect version of the thing they want the most, then there is a big chance it will be disappointing. I really still haven’t got a single cast iron thought of what it will be. I’ve been leaning one way but that isn’t even something I’m that bothered about seeing in the game right now. I also have inklings that it could be something I actually don’t want, but also an open mind as to what it actually turns out to be. I’m not going to be disappointed because I’m not actually expecting anything. I’m certainly very interested in finding out though, and having a bit of fun while we are still in the dark about it.
My guess is something to do with immersion and train announcements fall into this category. Immersion is high up on his list of likes, along with SIFA.
Why feel sorry for Sam? He took over the role of Community Manager when Dmitri left and did a fantastic job, the way he handled the TSW 2 Q&A's were brilliant and well set out. I have no doubt he'll do a great job with whatever he's working on. It's people who are expecting his project to be their "own wishes" which are most likely to be disappointed, Sam hasn't made it out to be a huge thing, he's trying to manager our expectations and rightly so. Some people can handle that and others go even more crazy with speculation and wild rumours. People need to relax, enjoy what we've got and when the time is right we'll see what he's been working on.
This is true. It may well be something which doesn't interest/excite me but I will be pleased for the sections of community who are excited by it.
Well, I reckon it's no passengers, and because of lockdown, and the paucity that are out and about will all have face masks and being questioned by the police?
Yes. Sam said it on a stream. Can't remember which one but it was with Bakerloo line on in the background if that helps. He said that people use it as escapism so having pandemic realted stuff in the game may not be totally appropriate.
