nvm found my answer = For those of you getting confused; the Steam referred to in the roadmap means that DTG are adding support to TSW 2 for the operation of steam locomotives.
I saw that too, I'm not in the discord (I'm in a different one connected to the TSC news channels) and assumed people were thinking it's to do with Steam as in the Steam Store?
Do we know for sure that Steam is the secret? It could be anything else new on the roadmap. It could be something to be revealed on the stream. But don't let me dampen the party
Nailed it too. I had £3.50 on it being steam. My other fifty guesses were just to put everyone off the scent.
I mean, it could be reducing download sizes for all we know atm DTG Protagonist On that note, can I ask if you can confirm this 'secret' is on the roadmap, and if so, what it is.
Is steam Sam’s secret though? Sam isn’t a developer so I’m guessing he wouldn’t have much involvement in developing steam trains and the idea seems to have come from the CEO.
Well, the wish for adding Steam has been there all the time. If his secret is steam, maybe he's started the ball rolling? He might have come up with a method of implementing it, and perhaps Mr Jackson's helped, or perhaps is involved in what the first route/loco is.
Well it's been confirmed Steam is (or at least is part of) Sam's secret. I suppose for the sake of your forum account you're going to say it's over-hyped, trivial, useless and a waste of time, although we'll have to see when it comes out.
No ill take the L on this one, you held me to my word and Ill keep mine. Its a decent announcement, proof will be in the pudding though. DTG Protagonist feel free to take this as permission to delete my account, a deal is a deal
Unrelated but can I do the same to change my display name? I've grown to really dislike it personally.
So, steam is the secret, which is something that has been missing from TSW for years. But then, is this secret the secret? Are there multiple secrets? Is steam a sub-secret, part of a much bigger secret? What if steam was just something to keep us off the scent of the real secret? Perhaps there was never a secret to begin with. Perhaps the real secret was the friends we made along the way.
Sam's secret seems to be he's a member of a gang of four with Paul Jackson, Mat and a guy called Rob. His task is to ask nasty questions on user experience and tell them what we (the customers) want. A suitable job title might be something like chief customer experience officer. Does this sound good?
half and half. Its good they're finally making a comment on it, but at this point I'm sick of the continued ignoring of core issues like the abysmal draw distance, pop in, their refusal to really prioritize passengers which are apparently not game breaking but are pretty shoddily done for a train simulator and shocking lighting (made 10x worse by TGV). I also highly doubt their skills and ability to pull it off. Time will tell but they've had over 4 years, that excuse runs out eventually. we've been telling them the same issues for 3 years and theyve done very little about it.
I don’t understand why they didn’t address these issues when upgrading from UE 4.16 to 4.23, as these issues are directly related to the version of UE used. It was certainly a missed opportunity for sure. No doubt when Steam trains arrive on the scene, they’ll upgrade the engine again to a newer version but I sincerely hope that they actually make graphical improvements this time round as we’re still seeing day one graphical visuals such as the abysmal shadow draw distance and poor night lighting, as well as other graphical issues.
For PC, yes, for console, no. How much improvement is even possible for base PS4/XBox One is, however, another matter that I'm not qualified to discuss.
Shadow draw distance. Not draw distance of assets/tracks. Changing the values does nothing for shadows as I think they’re hard coded to render at X distance. It’s very noticeable during sunrise or sunset, where you are in darkness but everything around you is light as the shadows don’t reach barely more than a couple of hundred meters.
The issue is DTG seem very reluctant to change any of these default settings due to the performance impact it'll have on entry level platforms. Though in this day and age, we really shouldn't have to make such sacrifices. They really need to offer more flexibility and variety when it comes to choosing the graphical settings as by default, the 'ultra' settings are very poor.
He said it was ‘certainly a secret’, which implies to me it was’t the secret, or not the only secret. If it was then cool, but his post definitely suggested otherwise to me.
