    Right so:

Yes, you can download more routes and locos but only ones on PS store.

TSW2020 is an older version of the game but does have some nice routes. DLC is still available for TSW2020.

TSW2 is newer and most of the content from TSW2020 is available to download (except North East Corridor). If you own or purchase DLC for TSW2020, it becomes free to download on TSW2 so you don't pay twice.

Southeastern high speed with the class 395 and 375 is only available in TSW2. Support has ended for TSW2020.

You have a world of obsession ahead, if you catch the bug!

Yes, you can download all TSW2 and the older TSW2020 content and DLC on Playstation. While TSW2 is the current and supported version, there is still a reason to buy TSW2020 as well (especially on sale)- because for a modest price, basically that of one DLC route, you get four routes (Main-Spessart Bahn, Great Western Express, Northern Trans-Pennine and Long Island Railroad), and under the "Preserved Collection" arrangement, any TSW2020 routes and locos you own automatically entitle you to download- at no cost - the TSW2 versions of the same content.

If you buy TSW2, don't buy Preserved Collection DLC for it, buy the TSW2020 version instead because you can play it in TSW2020 as well, and sometimes the TSW2020 versions get sales when the TSW2 version doesn't.

TSW2020 on PS4 also comes with Rapid Transit and NEC New York (unplayable in TSW2) since they were never removed from the base package.

Good advice from all the above. I started with 2020 never having played a train sim before just a couple of months or so before TSW2 came out. I soon got hooked and as soon as I heard about TSW2 coming out I knew it had to be a day one purchase for me.

Knowing what I know now and if I was starting out now I would start with TSW2 and then get TSW2020 when in a sale. If money no problem would get both at the same time. I was so hooked I purchased a lot of the 2020 add on's before TSW2 came out so was very pleased that they can be used in TSW2.

I have not played 2020 since 2 came out as have not found the need to. It is very easy to get hooked and I know I have played many more hours playing this than any other game I have. Have only been gaming for five and a half years or so and was a late starter, very late starter but have quite a few games.

I always think of this game as having a giant train set that I don't have to keep putting together and taking apart again. And as a way to escape into a better place that we all need at the moment.

I hope you enjoy your time with the game if you get it or get them. If you had a train set when young or just like trains I am sure you will.

One comment on that: this only works if you also own TSW2020. If you only buy TSW2, you cannot make use of the routes for TSW2020, in that case you have to make sure you buy the preserved collection for TSW2! You will not get the free update to TSW2 if you do not own the basegame of TSW2020.

Get TSW2 now, then wait for the next time TSW2020 is in a Playstation Store sale. I’m not sure about PS but certainly on Xbox, I picked up the collectors edition of TSW2020 in a sale, even though I already had the original TSW base game because it worked out much cheaper than buying the routes that came with it individually (inc LIRR, MSB and NTP) and I could then import them into TSW2 (apart from NEC of course).

Just to add to this, both TSW2020 and TSW2 are on sale on the PS Store right now at £10 and £12.50 so that's 8 routes you can play in TSW2 for £22.50 which is an absolute steal.

I think the current sale is just for PS Plus members though iirc.

No they're both in the games under £20 sale, the TSW2020 collectors edition and various DLC are what's in the PS Plus sale.

Out of curiosity because I only bought Tws2 base game today. If I buy tws2020 will I be able to play the base train levels there or can I play them on the twsw2 as well. I see comments about being able to play the preserve cue collection but not sure if these are part of it

Whatever TS 2020 routes you own (including those included in TSW2020 itself) give you automatic ownership of the TSW2 versions of the same routes- as soon as you log into Steam after the purchase, the downloads should happen

Except Northeast Corridor has not and will not be ported. But the rest have been

BIG CAVEAT: you must buy 2020 on Steam, not the Microsoft Store, for this to work

Sounds good. Final question on this, what is the difference between the maps and just the locomotives packs contentwise. It looks like I can’t buy some of the locomotives without certain maps but I am just curious what content comes with these locomotive packs. I been playing on sands patch so far and My assumption is any map add on will have the same amount of stuff equivalently as others, but curious on the single locomotives

The locomotives always require whatever route it says is required to be installed to use them. You get a few extra scenarios, tutorial and extra services in the timetable normally (these may also appear as a new journey). Other routes may substitute it in place of the default one and can be selected in the timetable. The freight ones usually come with extra wagon types. Getting them adds more variety to the routes and can make them feel busier.

    Just to clear this up:
Train Simulator (2021) - does not give you access to TSW routes and is a separate entity entirely.
Train Sim World (2020) - Buying this will give you all of its routes in TSW2, including Rapid Transit on PS4. NEC New York, whether you buy it separately or it's included in TSW2020, can only be played in TSW2020, and not TSW2. Any other DLC bought for TSW2020 will work in both games.
Train Sim World 2 - Buying Preserved DLC in this game will only let you play it in TSW2. Routes bought in TSW2020, including those in the base package, can be installed in TSW2.

Curious what the reason NEC New York won’t be ported over

It was the first route developed, using techniques that proved to be a dead end, and so it can't really be ported - or at least it would be more work than just starting over from scratch.

Asking here instead of creating new post since it’s relevant to the topic. So I am thinking about buying tws2020 just to have access to the stuff there. I am not sure how the content is ported over to Tws2 however. What is the process on this or does the ps4 store just recognize a purchase for one is a purchase for both.

If you purchase TSW2020 and content for it, any content that can be ported over to TSW2 will be marked as free in the DLC section of the TSW2 playstation store page (or in-game on TSW2).

Small tip: If you're someone who likes to go for trophies, DON'T buy TSW2020. It's a nightmare.

Thank you, Domotron for clarifyin. I don't know yet about trophies, but I was only going to buy TSW2020 assuming it would give me more content that I can play in TWS2... if I can get the same content in TWS2, then I guess there is no point in buying TSW2020

Unless you already have the maps that come with TSW2020 it is worth buying 2020 because it would work out a cheaper way of getting those routes rather than buying them separately.

To anyone just starting I would always recommend buying the best pack of 2020 that they can afford and then TSW2. Then they can have whatever routes that came with their 2020 pack to use on TSW2 at a much cheaper price.

Yeah, don’t bother about trophies, they are meaningless outside of being bragging rights for gamers, something you don’t need to worry about if you are playing the game because of an interest in trains. There are better ways inside the game for tracking actual progress.

It’s worth getting a version of TSW2020 (Standard or Deluxe etc.) because you will get a lot of routes for the price of an initial bundle. It could save you up to a £100 on content depending on what you decide to buy in the future.

If you do get TSW2020 buy all other route and loco DLC that you want (and is available in TSW2020) as the TSW2020 version as that will give you the content for both games, and at the moment some content is better in TSW2020 than in TSW2. It’s a long story.

If you want the Class 395 "Javelin" you will need to buy Train Sim World 2 on you PS4 and then get SouthEastern HighSpeed add-on it all costs around £45

Wow this worked better than I thought! Strange thing is I don't think Steam wants me to find this game lol.. If I search for Train Sim World 2020 it never comes up in Steam, but if I go through Google, it finds it on Steam and I can add it to my favorites.. weird.
Anyway, I purchased TSW 2020 Digital Deluxe Edition (6 items) for $20! Right below it you can buy the standard game for $30 lol..
The nice thing is that I didn't have to actually install TSW2020, Steam just started to automatically download the TSW2 versions of what I just bought!
    So in effect I got 4 TSW2 DLC's for $20 :). I'm happy
And to think I haven't even gotten through 10% of the base TSW2 game ..

Just also to note that the physics for TSW2 are very different in the older TSW2020. I played TSW2020 first and then had to relearn braking LOL. Both are great to play and many hours will slip past ;)

Enjoy and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the information! Since I did not actually install TSW2020, only the DLC (which Steam called TSW2 DLC).. will I see the same physics differences between these DLC's and the normal TSW2 game?
If so, what types of things are different? (What will I noticed?).

The physics are part of the core game engine, so all DLC will function the same (that is, by TSW2 rules). Preserved Collection DLC technically aren't TSW2020 any more: they are conversions to the new system

Have to say I find driving the Class 08 in Trans-Pennine in TSW2020 very different to TSW2, playing the same scenario. The adhesion seems to be very different.
