Just saw the new 465 screenshots and I noticed that the trees have no foliage, as it should be in winter. We know that winter in TSW is simply autumn with snow... so, did I miss something?

So, is it possible to know why that screenshot shows trees with no leaves? Is it an in-game screenshot (so, please explain why in TSW 2020 and TSW 2 trees have leaves even in january...) or just a mockup? Thanks.

I think that the Loco image has been superimposed onto a real life back ground. Those trees look to real to be in game.

Is it possible an artist's rendition. They seem popular with DTG.

Definitely not a real life picture. The grass looks familiar to me, enhanced for sure. Interesting how DTG makes things look better just for promotional purpose. They should put a disclaimer on these pics: "For illustration purpose only"...

They kind of already do. At the bottom of their articles relating to upcoming routes and locos it states

I know, but that's a different thing. Developers usually put those disclaimers when the game is still a work in progress. But this is definitely something "fake", just like the seagulls in IOW screenshots, the superdetailed Cologne Cathedral, etc... Just realized now they already did it with older routes... ‍

I do believe that is called artistic licence.
Just look at the SEHS picture. It's nothing like that in the game. The QE2 bridge (Dartford crossing) is much further away from the railway line in the game and traffic certainly isn't that detailed or visible coming up from the road tunnel.

Yes, definitely. Those pics were too realistic to be in game screenshots and I suppose nobody thought that was the real thing. In this case it looked more similar to the game, so I thought it could be a real screenshot. But those trees...

Actually, TSW2 does have bare winter trees- you can see them in the reworked Sand Patch

I dont think they were implemented in TSW2020, hence not in the Preserved Collection

What about IOW? I don't own the DLC but there was a simliar "promotional screenshot" with bare trees (and bushes). Are these real? Can someone reproduce this? I get autumn trees, when using a winter setting without snow on Köln-Aachen... Maybe IOW works different...

The only trees I see in TSW in winter look like mashed potato on a stick.

EDIT - there may be a setting on PC that allows the trees to go to their full detailed LOD but I’m not sure about that. We’d never see it on PS4.

I am fairly sure now that bare trees are a feature inteoduced with TSW2, so thry are found in 2-native routes, but not in the Preserved Collection

    I don't think so :(

Screen percentage 200% (PC) makes textures uncompressed, but it is an fps super-killer...
engine.ini tweaks go to super-sharp high-res results too, but only for super-spec high-price rigs :D

There was another similar thread over on the PC forums where this was discussed. Anthony provided an answer which seemed plausible to me...

...but really, that then begs the question: why?
What's the reasoning behind this artistic choice?
The world may never know! :o

Doubling screen percentage in-engine is a poor substitute for your video card's native supersampling, accessible from its control panel. Nvidia calls it DSR; I don't know what AMD calls it.

Winter timetable is set in January, so I doubt it's a date problem. Still waiting for a DTG staff reply...

Is a screenshot not evidence enough?

    Maybe it's PC only?

Oh, I believe you. Only saying, if You try to turn snow off, trees become variant with leaves.

Don't know where this screenshot came from, but it isn't a PS4 screenshot for sure. I confirm that leaves are still there, with or without snow.

A crop straight outta my TV set. The awful TSW winter leaves (from SEHS, but they look the same on every single route)...

The screenshot I posted is straight off a Sand Patch session on my computer. Then maybe its PC only, and consoles are still stuck with leaves

I play on PC - in winter, but without snow, trees are with leaves.

I have always put unrealistic winter on the fact that British people don't know what they snow and true winter actually looks like since in UK and Central Europe the winter rarely gets cold and you guys basically have no snow.
Yes, it is with a huge sarcastic note but seriously, winter needs to be sorted out, it is immersion breaking. Especially around NRW routes. The snow needs a lot of work as well as well as frost (that is missing entirely).
Spring and summer are great, winter not so.

Where I lived in Germany we had serious snow.

    __________________________________________________
All right, hypothesis: leafless trees were introduced with TSW2. They definitely exist. Since they are route-level assets, they only exist in 2-native routes, not Preserved Collection. BUT- it is only a bare-tree-with-snow asset; there doesn't exist a bare-tree-without-snow version so if you run a timetable service set to winter but with snow off, you'll get autumn trees.

    1) I stand by me
    2) I do belive but if it is not coming down 10cm at a time... (Finish the sentence)
    3) I was half joking. I still say that Germans do not have any idea of what snow is though. Even though, I know you get a snow like thing... Trust me, be once in Norway, central Finland/Sweden, Canada, Siberia and you will agree with me. Your serious snow in Deautchland was a joke. I mean, snow has so many different feels and textures. Snow in central Europe feels disgusting while in Sweden/Finland it is the opposite. It does depend where you live thou. It's like the difference in rain between south and north of England, let alone wintery showers in Scotland. It's all different, feels different.

There are also seagulls in ECW... or at least some kind of birds flying around the harbour.

Now, fully leaved trees in winter appear in the promotional pictures. As Vinnie pointed out, it should be a simple fix... the mod fpr PC looks good, unfortunately console players are somehow left out (again). The only solution would be DTG fixing it finally.

Still no replies from DTG about this feature. This is what drives me nuts about this company. They are definitely able to do good products (the new Class 465 is great), but they stumble on stupid things like this... maybe is just because I'm italian and I'm not so used to wintertime in England. It seems you have special trees up there...

This got brought up in the Diesel Legends stream.

DTG are aware and hoping to fix. No more info was given unfortunately.

Hopefully we see this added to the roadmap in the near future.

I've been running through journey mode with the 465, and one of the journeys sets the date to 1st Feb. No leaves!

    703d376b-3941-4201-9d0f-29fab6963ed7.jpeg

Hopefully DTG implement the date fix soon. Leafless trees in the snow look a LOT better.

I confirm that's pretty stupid, because, as far as I know, trees are leafless even in January (unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere...).

I can confirm it's stupid also. This has been going on for 4 years and the fact that a date change is all it takes to make the leaves not be on the trees in winter like in reality and looks better has not been implemented makes no sense. It should be added to the roadmap actually fixed soon hopefully. It's not that hard
