Nah going to wait for you to get it. That's your thing. It's a fun dlc. For weathering. Opacity, varying shades of the same color, and either the tear shapes stretched or gradient shape layered on top of each other.
ok added weathering and some small details. I think this will be finished unless I get good idea of what more to add.
So to help out with weathering since people always have questions. And the nice thing is everything can be done however you want. There is no right or wrong! start with a base and stretch it out. multiply and gradually change the color, as you can see I'm staying in the same up and down area on the chart, just changing opacity and shade. Okay added some rust between this spot. Using the same techniques as above by layering the shapes and messing with opacity and shade. A few shapes later we get the start of something decent looking. Now I took the gradient box and chose the main color I wanted. I placed this above the "grime" but below the rust since I wanted the rust to stand out more. Hopefully that helps.
I use a slightly different method to above...... For the general grime / dust / dirt....... Once the paintwork and any logos, signage and lettering is all in place I use the gradient square shape and spin it so its upside down. Then stretch it up as much as required and position it where I want it vertically before stretching it horizontally to cover the full length of the vehicle and that half of the ends. I then project it through to the other side. I could then add another one or two different coloured gradient squares using the same method but maybe placed slightly higher or lower or slightly less / more stretched in the vertical direction. For things like rust stains I use the same shape as shown by vogelm10 and the other one that is very similar and rotate them through 90 degrees either way so they are vertical. Change the colour to a rusty colour and then again stretch or squash them to get the width and length I want before then placing them where I want them on the vehicle. Here are my examples of weathering..... View attachment 46575
Use lots and lots of very transparent shapes, slightly varying the color (barely saturated tints of gray) overlapping each other. And be prepared to create steaks and scratches by taking other shapes (like, say, the bat decal), and stretching and skewing them until they look random. A place to start is to make a rectangle shape that covers the whole side of the car, colored medium gray, and so transparent as to not really be visible, just fades and mutes the brightness of the colors behind it. Another easy one is to use a rectangular gradient, rotated 180 degrees, colored rusty brown to mud-colored and spread over the lower edge of the unit where you would expect a lot of road dust and mud. Having said that, a lot of these are stopgaps in lieu of real paint tools. At the very least, I would like bilateral and radial gradient shapes, and scratch/streak shapes oriented vertically. Oh, and the ability to type in HSV values, not pixel-hunt for them.
Hey everyone! Think we have enough layers to try and replicate this?! I'm going to go for it and fail horribly in the process!
hmm what's safety I forgot my memory was damaged ever since I crashed that BR183 into another BR183 at 90km head-on
Hmm, guess I was wrong- just haven't seen more than 2 at a time. It has always been practically automatic with my boxcars (I have five of them)- any two plus the default blue. It's interesting that certain car types (boxcars, coal hoppers, autoracks, Gundersens) almost always spawn alt-livs, while others (tank cars, covered hoppers) very rarely do. I may get an alternate tank livery one load in ten. Maybe there's a total cap on alt-livs.
the 3ball livery is ALWAYS on every coal train. same with my autorack ones. I have NEVER seen any of my tank car ones exept on OSD
Also the 53' marking in black is important too since it shows the size of container....I think the game uses 53' ones.
also very off-topic question it says in the compatition rules for the screenshot contest it says: 2.1.1 be a resident of the United Kingdom or Germany and where participation in Competitions of that nature on these terms and conditions is lawful; If I don't live in either does that mean I can't enter?
I did the IZY livery on the Duplex maybe who knows it’ll have one in a future if the frequentation increases. IZY stopped its trafic because of COVID and used Réseau and one TMST set:
Another couple of freight cars..... Again loosely based on images from Google with a little artistic license to go with the cars available in TSW2. I'm based in Britain so I know these aren't spot on but adding a few of these to the Sandpatch route just makes it a little different and adds a little variety. UP Refrigerator Car and a GATX Grain Car.
About 2 or 3 weeks ago the East Coastway items became available to paint. We have the EWS 66, the 3(77?) Emu, and the 2 JNA hoppers.
Ok,I hadn't gotten the eastcoastway route yet,i have heard dtg was going to make preserved collection routes liverly editored at some point, btw are there any other preserved collection routes other then eastcoastway currently with this option?thx...
I need some opinions on this, if I see the dimensions (using the corrugated metal as a reference) everything is perfect, yet it looks a bit off, anyone can see why, maybe just creating it made me lose my mind (56 layers...) Maybe the height of the "g" and the "h" compared to the "e"? The "t" could also be a little bit more in line with the rest of the text...I'm really going crazy ahahah Prototype:
The dimensions of the 'h' in the designer are way out, compared to the other letters, the only thing you could do to sort it is to make your own H out of other letters and some creativity. That said it isn't massively noticeable in this case, but it is if you look at it for a while.
Stretch the "g" a bit in height so it goes lower and make the "h" a bit squeezed down while adding a rectangle to the top of it making the line of proper length.
The "h" is custom made anyway so changing it should not be a problem, I'll lower it a little. I will also adjust the "g" to be more in line, thanks Edit: it looks a lot better now, thank you very much Edit2: Finally it's done... Wanted to add more details but I'm at 295 layers already... I would also like to adjust the little writing below the cab windows, it's a bit too wonky
Having a look at re-skinning the autorack but even though the default one has the CSX logo on the corrugated sides on a specific panel the version in the editor does not have this ability!!! Looks like the only place to put a company logo is at the narrow section at the end or along the bottom edge which really limits what you can get in there. I’ll still see what I can come up with and I’m toying with doing UP, BNSF and CP versions.
There were a few autoracks that had their logo put on those narrow ends, ATSF and CNW are the 2 that I can find so far....
Yes I’ve seen a couple myself but trying to find something my currently limited skills can accomplish.
