Background Trier-Homburg is a 77.6 mile (125km) line that weaves its way through the picturesque Saar valley. It also passes through Saarbrucken Hbf, an important station in the Saar valley. A plethora of Regional services are provided as well. The Line We start at Trier Hbf where one can reach many destinations including Cologne, Bonn and Euskircken. The line heads south east toward the first stops at Karthus and Konz. Then the line heads south, this is where the wiggly bit starts. We weave through the valley toward the next major stop, Dillingen. Here you can change for trains toward France. We then head through the built up area of Dillingen/Saarlouis where we reach Saarlouis Hbf. Next, the line continues to make its way through the built up area toward Saarbrucken Hbf. Here, you can change for trains to Metz, Strasbourg, Neunkirchen and other destinations. We then head into the south of Saarbrucken and leave the city behind to head toward St. Ingbert. We then enter the final stretch toward Homburg Hbf. As mentioned in the rolling stock segment of this proposal, the RB70 and RB71 services could use the DB 426 but as a bonus for people who own HRR, the DB 425 would substitute services. Also, freight is an option, with many yards and small branches towards factories and industrial stuff. Edit: Absolutely messed up the distance. Thanks for helping Jo_kim!
Here is a bit more rolling stock, that uses this line: Passenger trains BR 1440 (Alstom Concordia Continental) BR 143 Ore trains BR 189 (Siemens ES 64 F4) Pig-iron trains BB37000 (Alstom Prima EL3U/4) Coal trains BR 151 Combined traffic & wagonload trains BR 185 (Bombardier Traxx F140 AC2) BR 152 (Siemens ES64F) Re 421 (Re 4/4 II) Re 482 (Bombardier Traxx F140 AC1)
And I do not know where the route length of only 43 miles / 70 km comes from. The Saarstrecke (Karthaus - Saarbrücken) alone is 88 km long. With the extensions to Trier and Homburg, the route length would increase to 125 km.
Oh, I got the route length from https://www.thetrainline.com/en/train-times/trier-hbf-to-homburg-saar-hbf
That is the direct distance between Trier and Homburg. The route is basically a big U and is therefore much longer. STR = Trier, SDL = Dillingen, SSH = Saarbrücken, SHO = Homburg (Saar)
