There's definitely a big age gap of TS players, some of the older people are more interested in nostalgic trains where as some younger people are more interested in newer units, such as myself.
Well being over 40 I can say firstly. I will never stop playing video games, well not until I am dead anyways. Spent too many years playing them. Onto trains now. I would say I am 50/50. I do like my older trains. Especially DMUs and EMUs. I also believe that we need new trains. I am a very big fan of the Pendolinos, and Nova 1s too.
I'm wondering where the age gap between 35-45 comes from. Younger folks are more likely to play video games and train simulators are in no doubt the most common way in modern times to get into railfanning. People above 60 aren't that adapted to computers in general so the lack of players in that range is to be expected. But why is there a dip in the middle? Is this an entire generation where the interest in the railways dipped? I find this very fascinating.
I’ll hazard a guess that that’s the time of life when people are busiest and there is not much spare time or cash to devote to hobbies. The kids might be teenagers or near it, your dropping them here, there and everywhere. In work your working any available overtime to pay the mortgage and for said teenagers. Apologies to any teenagers in here but from experience I can tell you they ain’t cheap.
it’s quite simple really, this age group are too busy to play games of any sort while they deal with a their midlife crisis. They’ll be back soon enough
I’m as old as I feel, age is but a number. I am laughing at some of the replies in this thread where some of you are saying your feeling old though? I mean really!
The poll results seem to explain some of the threads that have been popping up in the suggestions section lately :Kappa:
Is it a gap in interest in trains or a gap in interest in games? 35-45 is the changeover period between GenX and GenY, and that group also is right in the middle of probably the most hectic part of their careers and/or family lives. Although I'm in the middle of that group (38) and I certainly have a solid interest in gaming (amongst way too many other expensive and time-consuming hobbies), my interest in trains is fairly casual though but does cover quite a broad range.
Take the year then minus 2000 and that’s the age I’m at some point this year (easiest way to remember)
