The Clinchfield Railroad is coming to Train Sim World 2 - so, if you're as excited as we are, check out our latest dev update here on some of the scenarios you can experience on this historic line.

I like that we are seeing triple- and quadruple-headed consists. Can't quite tell from the screenshot if the F7s are ABBB or ABBA though.

    Also, caboose confirmed.

Unfortunately, no closeup of a boxcar yet. I'd be interested to see if they included an authentic detail for the period: up until 1966, US boxcars and covered hoppers had roofwalks, gangways down the top of the cars. These were banned in '66, and the RRs removed them from their existing rolling stock but the mounting brackets remained very visibly in place. Also, pre-'66 freight cars had their handbrake wheels mounted high up, accessed from the roof or a ladder.

All looks a bit 'twin peaks' to me....

I can imagine Bob doing bad things to Laura palmer in one of those engine sheds....

ABBA, you can see the bulge from the number board on the last loco.

So this is the team that does the scenarios for the routes. I would like to see more effort and variaty in this aspect of gameplay, because scenarios are an opportunity to escape from the the timetable which is the same experience in every service. So scenarios should provide different services, workers on the line, more difficult situations, technical difficulties, basically add something different and not basic, boring scenarios especially in passengers routes, where 90% of the time scenarios give the same experience as timetable mode. So here is as suggestion for the Gameplay team, especially when "they don't have nothing to do".

That route is looking very nice, hopefully the scenarios give a very good gameplay experience, rather than just running a coal train down the whole line and the next scenario does the same but with different locos running the train back to its origin. I think most of us can agree the scenarios are far better than the services, IF, and only if, DTG can get them right.:)

Also can’t wait for the preview stream.:)

They mentioned AI several times. I hope this means plenty of trains in passing sidings and holdups for red lights. I would also like to see coal loading at different mines and tipples and a selection of branch line activity. If there are three branches, you'd expect them to be used. How you pack all that into the usual 5 scenarios, I don't know.

As I stated earlier, the yellow cars in one of the images are FGE Reefer cars, as the color and design match ones that were used at the time.

Thanks for this interview. It is interesting to get some background information.

One comment though. Realism is nice, but realism is not the most interesting gameplay, running up and down the line all day is not what I like to see. In timetable mode there is plenty of room to repeated services. For scenarios I really likte them to be a showcase on what you can do with this game. I have seen a number of scenarios that would fit perfectly in a timetable, but are not worth the trouble to play yhem as a scenario. I really hope the scenarios provide something unexpected and surprising.

Looking forward to this route ...

Awesome article! Really interesting to hear from some of the people that make the scenarios! Also was very happy to see that they actively communicate with the community and 3rd party and use them as a reference! Very excited for this!

This one screenshot intrigued me the most. This is because it's our first image of the Caboose.
This caboose looks really promising. Based on our first picture of one in TSW 2 it looks like it will be detailed and we might be able to go inside or at least it has an interior for us to see. This is a great step from DTG. Now if it will be functional I don't know but it's a promising sign.

Take a look, 2 images from same screenshot, one is zoomed in on the Caboose.

Afraid not. Mars lights and Gyralights were installed in addition to the headlight, not in place of it. Besides, they were popular with RR that had lots of grade crossings; the CRR had very, very few up in the mountains.

I wonder if the senario team for CRR did the GWR DLP senarios pack because we all know how well those turned out to be.

I have seen talk about people wanting to do the red yellow silver war bonnet F7 which sounds cool, but is there a silver color of some kind even possible in the liver editor, the would look Metallic enough?

Unfortunately no. The material is defined by the 3D model, and most surfaces are "gloss paint"

Clinchfield looks great, will add it to the collection when it comes out.
Didn't have much time yet to drive the TS21 version.

I also agree with the people on the scenario's front here in this topic.

Scenario's should always be different then just a run down the line.
For example, the last few DLC releases, the scenario's are almost identical to the service mode, in early TSW, the scenario's were different.

As one in the 465 is from Gravesend to Gillingham and then back again in 1 scenario.
Nothing different then you finally shutdown the train and build it up again (although most of the steps are missing as you aren't required to turn on the safety systems for example).

Scenario's should be hard to do and require skill, as anyone can just jump into a service, scenario's should be totally different.

I don't think it's that bad, but sometimes they forget their 'mission' in the name of 'higher' ideas - money. Yes, this is a business activity. I remember TSW at birth, and TSW we can see today - I am hopeful. However, it is still progress, evolution.

“In terms of Clinchfield we can have a train going down one of the branches, filling up at one of the loading facilities, and then going to get the coal cleaned and processed. Or you might be going straight from Elkhorn City all the way to Dante.
I feel like the Scenario team has learned a lot over the years. I’ve always enjoyed the scenarios for the routes starting from the beginning but they definitely have learned ways to make them more unique and interesting compared to the regular time tables services. This being a large USA freight route with many branch lines and being set in the time period it is has huge potential to be more then just the typical A-B service. I think one thing that everyone can agree on is, that we are interested in the scenarios that are different, unique, or challenging that lets us solve problems and teaches us something new, that wouldn’t work in the service mode. One that sticks out to me is the first scenario for Sandpatch. Running a light loco up the mountain is pretty standard, but it’s how they accompany your trip with the conductor telling you the history of the route as you drive it. I hope the scenario team continues to learn and grow, as they definitely bring new ideas and gameplay to TSW2.
