Maybe running under a tripler once would be ok.

There was a scenario in TSClassic for a 3rd party DLC where you loaded 100 coal hoppers. Of course on TSClassic, you couldn’t do the slow speed roll through but had to stop, load, move up to the next hopper, stop, load, move, stop, load..... you get the picture.

I will be more than happy just to drop off empties and pick-up loaded hoppers after that experience, thank you all the same :)

Somebody with RW knowledge correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that mainline engineers' hourly pay rates are much too pricey for the sort of job that can be handled by a mere yard wrangler.

So it seems like there is a new article coming out today, but currently there is just a placeholder.
Hopefully they'll announce the release date in this one

I do have a question about the F7 controls. Matt points out that the F7 he's driving has automatic transitions, with a manual option for those who want them- but did the F7 in RL have auto-transitioning, or is this a gameplay concession?

What's the average speed limit along clinchfield, aka the sections of route we'll be driving in this game ? If it's less than 30mph most of the way I think I'll give it a miss

    Clinchfield worth it?
    What do you think?
    Give it a go?
Will there be only slowspeed sections?

I'll probably buy it anyway as DTG are taking their time with the 313 and I've had money waiting for a while

I believe the F7 had auto transition series- parallel, though earlier F units had manual controls. Somehow, it was possible to lash different units together. I'm not sure if an F7 engineer could manually operate this control or why it would be an option.

Perhaps they put it in expressly so an F7 could be MU'd with an F3?

I don't think it was ever a problem to lash up any EMD locos, including mixing F7's and F3's, for instance. There must have been a way for, say, a trailing F3 or an older E unit to have its motors transitioned from the lead cab. So, maybe the manual/auto control was an optional order from EMD for the F7. Anyway, DTG must have researched this before including it as a functioning control in the CRR F7 cab. Of course, there's also an MU valve, which serves a similar function for throttle and brakes, so it gets kind of complicated.

When I drive the TS version, the speeds are not fast; no LZB required! 30 mph mainline and 15 mph passing track if I recall correctly.

However, I must admit that the route does not at all feel slow. There is so much going on with all the various tipples, branch lines, passing tracks, tunnels, bridges, and close in scenery. The route feels much faster than it actually is.

While the pace and terrain resemble SPG, there will I think be way more variety, compared to SPG's double-track main line with a yard at one end.

Excellent news, pre order will be going in tomorrow.
Re the speed limits, concur from the TS version that it doesn’t seem that slow, with the curvature and scenery etc.

    Edit: Pre ordered now!

I'd pre-order right now if i could *cough* xbox *cough*.

But i'll be buying at 12:01am on the 8th.

Haven't been this excited for a route before.

Gonna play some SPG in the meantime to get my US Freight fix....maybe a little Oakville, or UP on Penn Corridor to mix it up.

Excited to play this route. The F7 is a great locomotive and the route looks so good.

The EMD manual does say that manual transition must be used in the lead loco unless all of the trails are automatic. However, my understanding of what Matt said is that this is not modeled in CRR. You can leave it on automatic in all situations.

Well, I would assume that all of the trails in-game are automatic..... And perhaps in RL; if I recall correctly, all of CRR's F3/"F5s" were upgraded to F7s.

The manual transition is simulated but not the absolute need to use it. You can choose to do it manually if you like but you don’t have to, as automatic will work in all circumstances. I think that’s what he’s saying.

Right, none of the included locomotives need it.

So we have the transition lever, the MU valve, the unit selector and the dynamic brake, all of which are modeled in some fashion. We can be quite busy in the cab.

Please fix crossings why is it so problematic to have natural looking crossings. The ones in games look so jarring like they are just thrown together with no care or thought.

Pre-order done. Everything about Clinchfield looks like taking TSW2 forward in new directions and the route looks stunning from the preview screens. Only five days to wait!
