Is it just my imagination or does the acceleration and braking performance on the Class 66 vary between the DB and EWS variants and the different routes, GWR, ECW and SHS? I’ve been doing runs in the Class 66 on GWR and then did a couple on ECW and found that the acceleration and braking performance on GWR was better than on ECW, but that’s just the feeling I got. Also, running the Class 66 from Newgate to Lewes on ECW only got me a silver medal not gold and when parked at Newgate ready to go to Lewes you can’t get into the rear cab to turn the tail lights off, which are always on at the front of the Class 66 to start with for some unknown silly reason.
I've noticed it too that the ECW 66 is very under powered compared to the GWR version. The brakes seem to take an age to come off on EVW too which is odd for the short rakrs bring hauled.
The DB liveried Class 66 is definitely easier and more fun to drive in my opinion. Why do we have different Class 66’s in game? Weren’t all the Class 66’s the same, just in different liveries?
He's talking about the brake timings, which can be configured in the EM2000 display screen. You can also tell which brake timing is selected depending which of those lights on the dashboard are illuminated. (In this case, Goods is selected) Generally, passenger brake timing is quicker to respond while goods takes a bit longer to apply the brakes. And of course, the driver selects this depending on the consist they're hauling.
I can see on the DB Class 66 the passenger light is lit not goods. I can’t see how to change it to goods on the DB Class 66 though to see how this changes performance.
I don’t actually think the option is there on the GWE versions of the 66. I’ve tried going through the same way on the EM2000 screen as I do on the ECW version but it doesn’t seem to have as much function. The ECW version of the 66 is the more up-to-date version of the loco but as you’ve said, the handling feels completely different. I don’t know which one is more prototypical. This might be something for Adam to look at next time he comes around to GWE/ECW.
The new Class 66 is available only in EWS livery and was introduced in East Coastway. It has many new features and a slightly different colour palette. The GWE one has less features and is available in DB red and EWS livery (identifiable in the menus as it is a slightly darker colour than the ECW one). Both versions can be played in GWE and ECW, while only the ECW one can be played on SEHS. The ECW one is also the only one compatible with the livery editor.
Personally I am not sure a Class 66 has ever been used on passenger services, in real life, but i could be proven wrong.
I Find the same thing to be true with the Class 101 on NTP compared to TVL the 101 has Fantastic Acceleration and Braking on NTP but the TVL 101 was Nerfed I haven't tried the Diesel Legends 101 yet as I don't own that dlc
They have also been used on the Caledonian Sleeper, but only for traction. The ETS was provided by a Class 73. They're rarely used on passenger services due to their lack of ETS, which the 67 has.
