Is it just me, or do folk find JT really expensive? Lots of good stuff no doubt, but limited savings compared to say Steam sales.

Maybe Just Trains don't need to put stuff on sale the way DTG do?

When you consider the quality compared to AP, yes. The Voyager for instance... normally the same price you'd pay for a AP loco/Unit, but the quality is not even close.

I agree with you. I do not use the voyager, I would love to drive it but it makes me somewhat annoying. The sound is terrible (at least for me, hopefully the AP sound will come back), I don't like the acceleration and braking sensitivity at all, the joint track sounds don't appear either inside or outside the cab. As a positive I have to say that the model is incredible and I love it both externally and cab, but too expensive for the quality it lacks

The only route I’ve bought through JT directly (SECML) honestly makes me a bit wary of buying from them again, as there were some obvious scenery issues (floating grass in mid air above Dundee station), and down the line. Maybe it’s not representative though.

The Midland Mainline is brilliant, DNL with those massive cooling towers springs to mind.

The Class 60 is a little old, but, it was the only model available for several years in the game, it's a fair advanced replica with a nice hornsound and engine throb, you get a switch.exe from JT to drive it in simple mode/advanced mode, which was nice, there are some freely available EWS/DBSchenker repaints in the UKTS library by David Hossack that are very good, and a patch for the tractive effort specifications and a few other things you can search over there for, you also get some included freight wagons, which aren't available anywhere else and some brown & cream MK1 coaches from JustTrains included in the package, so, if you don't have those already from them, then I'd say it's a nice pack for £10.99 altogether.

But, they do offer their customers a good little points reward policy so you get discounts on your next purchase, DTG/Steam don't do that......

I don't think it is down to the line but it's age - I took Screenshots on the route in 2013 - 8 years ago
And the problem with older assets is they don't get updated.

...or reduced in price much. DTG stuff ends up being really cheap once it has become an old crusty asset... JT stuff seems to remain highly priced. SECML is not a great route... It's the sort of thing you'd expect to get for a fiver if you ask me. It was the 1st JT route I ever bought, and I immediately felt ripped off.

Midland Mainline on the other hand is fab!

Might have to look at the MML seeing as everyone is singing it's praises. What about the extensions? Derwent Valley, Barrowhill? Are they worth buying also?

Don't forget that this was a freeware route called Northern Lights to start with by that Student named Mully and he chose to sell it on JT to make a bit of money for his university studies, and it was back in 2012, you can't fault him for a first time offering, and the Forth Rail Bridge was a lovely construction as can be seen by Peter's screenshot above, back in the day.
He included Edinburgh Airport and Gleneagles Golf Course and Rosyth Military Naval Base, Dundee and Perth Stations and the coal mine at Thornton, so, lots of scenario possibilities, I thought it was a very good route for the time period and I supported him for his efforts, as I'm sure many others did for the good cause, I think you're being just a tad harsh.

Hi, I bought the Kyle Line in this sale but I'm having trouble installing it. I keep getting an error 'Railworks/Train Simulator 2013 not found at this location' (see screenshot)

    Install Error.PNG

However as far as I can see Railworks is present at the file path specified

    File location.PNG

I have raised a ticket with Just Trains, but I just wondered if this was an issue anyone else here had run into? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

Derwent Valley is really nicely modelled and I personally find it highly immersive, especially on the branch heading towards Matlock. I'd recommend the MML overall though. Can't speak about Barrow Hill as I don't have it, but I have the rest of it.

All of the MML is worth a punt, it's pretty accurate, all a consistent standard of production. Barrow Hill is the cherry on top of the cake.

Agreed. Because there's so few Scottish routes near me, it was one I had to get.

As you say, DTG offers great reduction on older stuff, JT not so much.

Thanks ex-railwayman for the advice about the class 60.

Is there a "best" first enhancement pack to get from AP? Each one seems to have loads of dependencies on other AP packs so the cost of entry seems high at first glance.

They only have a load of dependencies If you play the scenario that comes with the pack
I don't normally bother because of that reason and you will find a lot of scenarios that don't need a pile of stuff.

Go for a Loco rather than a unit and then pick one you think you will drive a lot
Check the requirements for the pack to work as each Enhancement pack requires a DTG loco to work

I like the Class 66 Enhancement pack but that depends on which Class 66 packs you already own
The 68 is another loco I like but you need the stand alone loco from DTG and Not the Fife Circle version

There is the Rolling Stock packs which are self contained and you don't need anything else once you have purchased them.

Both routes are totally different -
MML has the advantage that extensions can be bought for it but there is, to me, not much playability
AP is a fixed route and I doubt it would be extended but it is a good for all the differing stations and signalling.

Still a bit new for a hefty discount, and a LOT of work clearly went into it. £23 is good value though. From what I've seen it's superb.

Just be careful if you go for any of the JT MML Derby - Sheffield base route adons, as there are 2 versions, one stand alone and one expandable.
I have the whole expandable route version which I highly recommend and I believe they are releasing the Hope Valley line expansion to it in the not too distant future.
That will give you Leicester - Nottingham - Derby - Sheffield (- Manchester via Stockport when released) plus the Derwent Valley Derby to Matlock and the Erewash Valley line from Nottingham - Alfreton - Chesterfield + Barrow Hill.
It certainly isn't cheap but it builds into one terrific network that just keeps going.
    As a taster:-

There is? https://www.justtrains.net/searchresults?category=products&query=Midland Main Line I can only see one version of the base MML. Nothing mentioned about a version that is not expandable. Are you referring to the Steam version? If you buy it off Steam the expansions are not available for it... is that what you mean?

Yes sorry bit of a boo boo on my part, the Steam version is not expandable as far as I know the JT version is, also it is the addons that are available as stand alone or expansions. I shall edit accordingly thanks for the clarification.

As there is not a DTG version of this unit I got it - only spent just under £6 in the DTG sale so it's a treat

Depends if you're in a mainline or a secondary line mood at this point :D Both are excellently and accurately modelled but obviously the Wherries are self contained. I really enjoy both of them myself.

Sheffield-Derby and Derby-Nottingham-Leicester can be bought and run independently from each other I think.

But there are two versions of Derby-Nottingham-Leicester as per the blurb on this page (depending on if you have Shef-Derby, there is a standalone version and an extension version): https://www.justtrains.net/product/derby-nottingham-leicester , and the one you buy if you already have Shef-Derby extends it.

Personally I bought Sheffield-Derby, then added Derby-Nottingham-Leicester and Derby-Matlock afterwards.

The MML Sheffield - Derby is the base route everything else is added to. Just make sure you buy the JT one NOT the Steam version.
    https://www.justtrains.net/product/midland-main-line-sheffield-derby
The Addons are available as stand alone or extensions of the base route.
Personally I would buy in order.
    1. MML Sheffield - Derby
    2. DNL Derby - Nottingham - Leicester (Extension version)
    3. DV Derwent Valley Derby - Matlock (Extension version)
    4. EVL Erewash Valley Nottingham - Alfreton - Chesterfield (Extension version) DNL needed first.
    5. BH Barrow Hill (Extension version)
    6. Hope Valley (when released)
    7. Wherever they decide to branch out to next.
All in all it is a great network of fast express (no OHLE) to single line to huge freight yards and a Power Station as a bonus.
The included scenarios all come with 2x choices of either tons of payware options which if you have them are a bonus but also a default version using basic TS stock, not pretty to look at or prototypical but gives you a chance to explore the route without aplying for a mortgage.
    Hope that helps.

    I feel ya..

    AP:
Class 37 Locomotive Pack Vol. 2 (well I had pack 1 so it'd be rude not too)
Class 319 Electric Multiple Unit Pack Vol. 1 (I wanted the MJW TfW Class 769 so I needed this as a requirement)
Class 57 Sound Pack (Pro) (got the oovee Freightliner 57 cheap a couple of weeks ago)

    JT:
Class 20 Advanced Collection (Really wanted the RHTT kit)
JJA Autoballaster PlusPak Advanced & YGB Seacow PlusPak Advanced (keep seeing these as requirements for AP scenarios so they must be worth it)

Unfortunately none of the JT stuff I got was actually reduced, I was just already in a spending mood thanks to AP's sale.. :|

So my DLC count is 150 Steam (and DTG store) Items, 35 AP Items, 7 (one of which is the free ZZA snowplough) JT Items, oh and the British Rail Wagon Pack from DigitalTraction.

By this time next year I should have all I want I reckon.. :):D:D

Yes, Midland Mainline: Sheffield to Derby is the one you buy first... just not from Steam. If you buy it from Steam, you cannot use any of the extension packs.
