I’m trying to decide whether to pick up one or other of AP’s Class 319 EMU packs in the current sale. Does anyone have it? I presume it’s the same standards as the other MUs? Or is the newer 411/2 a bit more advanced? https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com...2/class_319_electric_multiple_unit_pack_vol_1
I bought the 319 for this and this alone https://sites.google.com/view/majorwalesdesign/reskins/TFW It's seems like a nice enough MU, bit unfair to expect it to have all the newly introduced features of AP's 411/2 though.
For each of the packs AP do a video showing what features are available with the loco/unit They are worth watching as you might find out something that changes your mind for good or bad. I rejected the AP sound pack for the Class 442s - Correctly AP have the sounds only coming from the centre Motor Coach But the cab is quieter than the DTG version with little of the sound I like to here from the train Peter
Yes I have it. It's not as good as the 411/2, but nothing is... they excelled themselves with that one. It's as good as any other recent AP product though, and a fun unit to drive. Sounds are spot on too. I hear them going past my house every day.
Well I just picked both volumes up in the current AP sale, to complete my collection of their EMU packs - firstly vol 2 as it's more "my era", and I gave in to the temptation to complete the set and picked up vol 1 as well, as much for some scenarios I wanted to try, not expecting any further discount. However I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a "discount on the discount" for those already owning one vol, and the sales reduction of £11.99 turned into £6.99. I was initially reluctant to purchase the 319 purely on subjective aesthetic grounds - to me, at least, the cab "face" is one that only the proverbial mother could love! Also, never having seen them in real life, I guess I didn't have that connection with them. However it just shows how you can't judge a book by its cover, as I was very pleasantly surprised indeed by the amazing interior detail, sounds and handling. Well done AP! A question, though, for those who have more expereince with 319s: it seem's a little sluggish to accelerate after a stop, notch 2 needs to go into 3 very quickly to get any decent acceleration, making it rather lethargic compared to other EMUs. Presumably this is prototypically based?
The 319 is an old unit and with only one power car the take off is slow - it should be similar to a 321 as the technology is similar. I purchased the first AP 319 pack and downloaded the TFW 769 repaint I then made my version of the 769 - still w.i.p Peter
Some more screenshots, this time of the interior: Nice to see proper curves on the phone - no horrendous polygons!
I used to travel on them every day to uni before they went out of service with Thameslink and if I remember them correctly the AP one does seem a little slow accelerating and decelerating. When recreating a real life timetable it can make the timings a bit hard to achieve.
When the 319s came to Northern they changed the electrics and the drivers have to go thru the notches so as not to overload the set. When they ran down south the drivers used to open up to notch 4 when starting
TfW are having nothing but issues with the 769's apparently the conversion to DEMU's didn't go as well as expected and they have been plagued by unreliability, in fact you're just as likely to see a 769 being hauled by a 37 as you are seeing one under it's own steam so to speak. I've even seen a response letter from a high up operations manager from TfW admitting the 769's were a bad call and will be replaced completely over the next few years.
TfW have just received their first Class 231 units - which are like a 756 without a pantograph https://www.railjournal.com/fleet/stadler-delivers-first-new-trains-to-wales/
