There seem to about seven Japanese DLC (routes and trains) on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=Japan “train simulator”&force_infinite=1 I’ve seen a few screenshots of The Story of Forest Rail: I guess this is quite well regarded? Is this a more historic route? Presumably there’ll be a fair number of Freeware routes too. Where should I start? Recommendations and discussion welcome!
Something I have not come across is any Train Sim stuff for Japan or other Asian routes outside DTG/JT I will be interested if any are brought to our attention
There is actually only 4 DLC's for Japan Story Of Forest Rail From my understanding, this is based on a real life now defunct route, but with different names. Haven't driven this one much so cant really comment on it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/277742/Train_Simulator_The_Story_of_Forest_Rail_Route_AddOn/ Wakayama & Sakurai Line One of my favorites of Union Workshops Japanese DLC's features 2 lines and 2 EMU's the Series 103 and 105. The route looks fantastic and everything works pretty well in the route. https://store.steampowered.com/app/376961/Train_Simulator_Wakayama__Sakurai_Lines_Route_AddOn/ Hidaka Main Line This route is pretty much a straightforward run, not much in terms of content (1 DMU) and is kind of meh. The real life route only runs to Mukawa station due to storm damage in 2015. https://store.steampowered.com/app/...n_Line_Tomakomai__HidakaMombetsu_Route_AddOn/ Tadami Line Union Workshops newest release for Japan, features only 1 DMU, but with 3 colors, decent scenery but I have had issues with some of the scenarios (IE one I cant complete cause I cant load passengers as the last station). However the route itself is beautiful both in game and in real life. https://store.steampowered.com/app/...adami_Line_AizuWakamatsu__Tadami_Route_AddOn/ There is also a 3rd Party Route, the Sanyo Shinkansen that was released ages ago, but it is very broken, and requires alot of replacing to get it working properly. I would suggest reading thru this post on Steam to get it working https://steamcommunity.com/app/24010/discussions/3/624076851222604252/?ctp=2 https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/1123-sanyo-shinkansen-2-4-v-1-1/
That we know of - I was thinking of trains/routes created outside of DTG/Just Trains The Sanyo Shinkansen uses a lot of Kuju Assets and the Signals are the favourite EN 444 There is a thread on the TSW forum suggesting a Japanese route https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/japan-odakyu-line-shinjuku-to-hakone-and-enoshima.13513/ Trainz seems to have a number of Japanese add-ons Peter
Most of the lines built run on 3'6" gauge - when the Shinkansen network was built they opted for Standard Gauge I don't know if these is any dual gauge sections https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_transport_in_Japan#Gauge
Nope, the 4 official ones are only commuter lines, however, Union Workshop keep teasing an E5 Shinkansen, so one may come in the future. Also some cab shots from CNAurora
Although not prototypical you could run South African and New Zealand stock on these lines as they are the same gauge.
If they ever come out with an NR500 for TS then I'd be buying It might look like a worm, but it's a FAST worm!
More like a pencil, I think! But can you imagine if someone painted a train like a worm? That would be something! I'm sure it would be a money earner too - for a ride on "The Worm"!
It depends upon the viewing angle. Incidentally that pic is one of the special themed paint jobs worn by one of the 500s (Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and manga). The more usual one is a restrained blue & white/silver.
I have found this on RailSim.fr https://www.railsim-fr.com/forum/index.php?/files/file/1402-nishikigawa-seiryu-line-by-zawal/ No idea if it is any good as I don't have the Assets And this one which is standard gauge so a Japanese Route without the trains https://www.railsim-fr.com/forum/index.php?/files/file/1390-hitoyoshi-20/
Of the ones on DLC, I'm told any of them are actually good. I have Forest Rail as it got a large sale discount once. I'll look at the others when I want some Japan in my schedule.
I asked on UKTS and John replied in the last post https://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=361&t=153517
The only thing is that UW isn't releasing it on Steam, yet. Instead, they will be releasing it thru JustTrains 1st.
