About 2/3 the way to Acton Yd from Reading on the Up slow line, there is a signal with another signal to its bottom right, top is green, bottom is yellow, what's this signal for?
Don't think so, not the usual triangle 3 light shunt signal setup. I'm going to have to aren't I I'll have a drive of the route this eve & hopefully I'll get s pic.
It’s a splitting distant signal just East of West Drayton. It gives an advance indication for SN310 junction signal which protects Stockley Bridge junction. At this junction, you are able to stay on the up relief or go across to the up main; the splitting distant signal gives prior indication as to where you will be going. Usually flashing yellows or PRIs are used for prior indication of route but in certain locations splitting distant signals are used. (Just for completeness, you can also get routed to the Up goods loop) The way splitting distant works is that there are 2 heads. The main head is for the main route which is continuing on the Up Relief. The side head is for the diverging route (across to the Up Main). Essentially, whichever is showing the least restrictive aspect is the route you will be taking. These are the different indications you can get and what it means: 1. Main head: Green/Double yellow. Side head: Yellow. Route at SN310: staying on Up Relief 2. Main head: Yellow. Side head: Green/Double yellow. Route at SN310: will be routed to the Up Main so reduce speed to 70mph 3. Main head: Yellow. Side head: Unlit. Route at SN310: Signal is at danger SN312 splitting distant signal: ... which is associated with SN310 signal protecting Stockley Bridge junction
