Greetings, fellow train drivers! Hope you're all doing well!
Yesterday I had a random freight run on C40-8W on Sand Patch Grade and met AI train with SD40 in Clinchfield livery as a head loco, which surprised me to be honest. Looks not quite realistic to meet CRR loco on CSX main line in this time period, what do you think? I mean should not SD40 appear in CSX livery here at least?

If you look at the timetable, you can even select the CRR SD40 for like 30 services. Definitely not correct though.

Right, not correct. If they're not worried about correctness, why not throw in the F7!? Better still paint it in B&O royal blue! Nah, I'd rather they didn't do this. Let's stick to authentic locos, unless they do a "Diesel Legends" type time warp.

Heck, it would be amazing to see a pre-Dash 2 SD40 in any color by SPG's time period!

I am happy to see the SD40 available on SPG. The more gameplay options the better!

I appreciate the passion for realism. However, I don’t want that to get in the way of having an option to enjoy a variety of DLC on different routes through timetable substitution.

I think I know the SD40 subsituted in... if you look in the menu while driving it, it says you are driving the SD40-2 not the SD40, so DTG might have stuck it in the game as an SD40-2 by accident which is why it can switch in... or maybe they intended us to be able to use it but not in the CRR livery? it doesn't seem like they would just stick it there on purpose, it ruins the realism.

Ah yeah, I see it now in the timetable, but still there is no livery options for it, we can ride it only as CRR!
More variety in locos is good of course, but they could add CSX default livery for it at least.

Ha, that would be great indeed, like B&O or Chessie System. But that would need more work from DTG and should probably be made like some older era DLC for spg.

Actually I take that back- you might see an orange one.

Starting in the late 90s, CSX took some of its older engines that weren't deemed worth upgrading, but weren't so clapped out as to be converted to slugs or scrapped, and assigned them to MOW. These were painted orange and black and nicknamed "pumpkins."

I would love to take the F7s across SPG as a substitute for the default traction, give them a decent run with a bit of speed.

True- but then it would pop up in Clinchfield too.

(Incidentally, that CSX logo takes a lot longer than "no time" to make given LD's limited toolset)

Substitution and layering take the loco from its "home" route as-is: no changes are made to it, the system isn't set up to do things like that. This is why, for example, even if the Munchen S-Bahn 423 were layered into SKA in place of the incorrect 422, it would still be a Munchen S-Bahn train; there is no mechanism for transforming it into a Kolsch S-Bahn.

While I was pleasantly surprised to see the SD40 show up as a selectable loco in the timetable, I would've rather they didn't do this since it is nowhere near realistic for SD40 to be roaming anywhere in the CSX system in this time period, much less one painted for CRR.

Ultimately what we would like to see is a checkbox system, sort of like the weather selector, where you can choose which liveries you want/don't want to appear in a particular service. That way, for example, you could have a CSX Pumpkin for SPG, and a black and a gray CRR for Clinchfield, and not worry about the wrong one turning up.

This needs to be removed ASAP. On PC someone has created a mod to remove the Clinchfield SD40 from SPG but those of us on console are stuck with the time warp LOVE. Shouldn’t be floating around on the route period.
