You have recently missed one but they come round regularly. I think Steam have a summer sale around June, according to PC Gamer there is a sale at the end of May. Bristol to Exeter was originally available on DVD, my copy is. You might find a cheap version, maybe second hand on Ebay/Amazon etc. It is £19.99, it was a good route in it's time but I probably wouldn't pay that much for it now, although it is used for many freeware routes so you might decide it is worth it to run these routes. Just Trains sales aren't as regular and they don't have all their content available in the sale.
I'm assuming it would just install like any other 3rd party route. There are a few copies available on eBay.
It should do I think, I think there was a registry key, I only installed it six months ago and I have completely forgotten. If I remember when I get home (which isn't something I would gamble on) I will look at mine when I get home and see if there is a CD/DVD key. It should work however. I used to buy second hand Football Management games and MSTS routes second hand and the registry keys on those worked fine when you inputted them.
Adversely, my Wife bought me some of the Call of Duty games for the PC and none of the codes in the jewel case worked, probably best not to assume that all jewel case codes will work, these were on e-bay and my Wife incorrectly assumed you were paying for a disc not just an online activation code in a box, just be sure what your buying is not "used".
Well I've taken a punt on a brand new sealed copy for £5.99... It says for Railworks, I presume it'll be ok???
Bristol to Exeter is a much older route - The Western Mainlines covers the route but to a newer standard and all the way from Paddington to Exeter
I did exactly the same, arrived this morning and installed without issue. However, I remember buying it because it was a requirement for a route but can't for the life of me remember which one it was needed for.
Do you know of any mods that improve the greenery of Western Mainlines 749006? I have the complete collection but seeing the same tree/shrub sprites over and over on long runs really does the routes no favours.
Not really - it is one of the things that has put me off Western Mainlines. One option would be to find a replacement on another route - freeware or otherwise - and use TS Tools to swap the trees
Looks like one to do in my spare time (if I get some)... is there a way to programmatically swap out individual assets and pepper them with a random assortment collection of nicer ones? Would be great to use every guilty asset as a marker for including more assets around it. Would be a massive time saver overhauling the entire collection of routes. Imagine Western Mainlines with the MML greenery. Thanks 749006
Find a tree you don't like on WML and make a note of it's name and path Then find a tree you do like on MML and make a note of it's name and path With TS Tools you can swap in a few seconds every tree of that type on WML with the one from MML Peter
Thanks Peter, do you know if it possible to do this directly with the route source code? Would be a massive time saver and I could probably write something to automatically update 1 asset with a small collection of better looking assets with a random factor thrown in. A quick way to turn one bad looking shrub into a collection of great looking shrubs with assorted plants surrounding them.
Sorry I don't know anything about source codes and the like. I know TS tools do a great job of swapping things I have a Belgium route and I did not like the track A two min job with TS Tools and I changed every instance of one type of track to another - there are still places where the old track exist in yards and the like but the mainline was swapped Peter
Neat. I suppose that is a way to deal with a missing track requirement on a freeware route somewhere, as well?
Yes. There is a tutorial on the TS Tools site on how to swap the track and it is fairly easy http://www.agenetools.com/tutorials/RepTrack.pdf Peter
I thought this tread was set up to inform members of a sale. Watch out in 10 days for a steam sale. Think their could be one during their golden week event due at the end of this month.
It is the nature of forums and has always been so, look how your post is now taking it off in a whole new OT direction again, the best way to get things back on topic is to just post on topic without calling out or highlighting said off topicness.
What is a question? Kidding aside, I missed a couple of items last time, so I will have to contemplate whether more money should be spent right now.
The best forums I’ve seen are ones where people are free to go off on a tangent as they please: the most interesting discussions can result, and things always eventually do revert to the original topic. The worst forums I’ve seen are ones where mods come down like a ton of bricks on anyone who dares veer even slightly OT on a tangential but immediately pertinent point, instead telling you to start a new topic, where all the existing reference and interest is lost, or disallowing posting older threads and immediately locking them. I’d say DTG has got top marks for its forum.
I've found keeping out of the TSW forums is much better for my sanity. Much more chilled this side of the fence.
Disagree COMPLETELY......A tightly moderated forum keeps the fools away and maintains a high signal to noise ratio...You want a tangent discussion? No problem, start a new thread, don't muddy the waters with O/T posts....like these ones..lol .Also saves time by not having to scroll thru irrelevant posts
Yes for me too. It is too easy to get wound up on the TSW forums, plus I have realised that TSW has a long way to go to give me anywhere near the enjoyment TS1 does, if it ever gets there. I guess this thread is a fools paradise then!
I suppose the calibre of contributor might affect the truth of what I say of course, but here at the TS20xx penthouse in DTG Towers, we are the creme de la creme But seriously, if something deserves its own topic, of course start another, but, by and large, something might crop up - a passing question or whatever - that is best dealt with there and then, before continuing with normal service.
Couldn't agree more Inversnecky, shooting the breeze and straying off topic can sometimes provide some real gems, and of course, we are the mutts nuts here
TS and TSW2 spring sale now on. Grab yourself a bargain. Only a brief selection of products though. I think this is a prelude to a sale during Steam Golden week at the end of the month. We shall see.
DTG have a Sale on the Steam Store on the 26th of April Nothing I want is discounted so I will give it a miss
Just got Netherfield (it was on my wishlist because it's a dependency, just need to remember what for now) and the Town Scenery pack (for the same reason) just wish the Platform Clutter pack was on sale too, oh and remembering what route I needed them for would be nice too. Still not out of the woods yet though as I need Falmouth branch, Corris railway and Semmeringbahn apparently too.
You will be pleased with your purchase as there are assets within Netherfield required for a lot of freeware routes.
Looks like only 1 or 2 of the routes I need (Woodhead in Blue + possibly Netherfield) for 3rd party addons is on discount.
Going down the list, much of the sales are checked off. Looks like a quieter week. I could punt on the 45, but not sure if I should do that as I have other needs for the next bigger sale.
It was for this... (Still a few other missing items yet) (still can't remember why Semmeringbahn is on my wishlist though..)
I found the link: https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/the-bodmin-and-wenford-railway-subscription-only/
Despite the URL, it's actually free to download. I started a topic about it here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/the-bodmin-wenford-railway.39079/
Yeah I've downloaded the route already, I just put the missing dependencies in my wishlist and promptly forgot what they were for For some reason I've been fancying Preserved lines recently but it seem all of them that I've found (freeware or payware) require stuff I haven't got, which is no doubt why Semmeringbahn is in my list..
I think because route milesage is smaller, more effort can be put into the scenery. At least the likes of this, the Fen line and some others aren't too onerous in requirements - you find after installing a few, that you have pretty much all the UKTS packs, Grass PAck or whatever, so less if anything to do with each new route. At soon as I saw this was on ATS, i thought it must have a list of 40 requirements, but on this occasion I was pleasantly surprised!
As the latest steam sale comes to an end in 18 hours, there may be another one next month but there is the usual summer sale at the end of June, October, November and December. So plenty of bargains to be had before 2020, Look out for announcements on Steam. If you wait until the Summer sale the discounts could be greater. This site is a good yardstick https://isthereanydeal.com/ Some good offers in the up to 50% off RSSLO products for their Facebook customers and expect they will have a full sale in six weeks time.
Steam Spring Sale ended today and if you missed it DTGs Spring Sale began today on selected Train Simulator and TSW items. https://store.dovetailgames.com/uk/sale
