I'm standing on the platform at Rochester station, waiting for a train. There's a heck of a racket coming from the passengers, yet......... the station is deserted. Then, as the train pulls in, people start appearing out of nowhere until there's a real crush of passengers. I enter the cab and, suddenly there is silence, even when I open the window, and once again the platform is deserted. Reminds me of a Stephen King short story........?
On HRR (and possibly elsewhere in Germany) the station ambience on the small open air stations is one of a huge indoor terminus and they bustle with chatter and reverb at loud levels. It’s more of a comedy sketch with inappropriate sound effects than a horror story and really spoils the route for me. I just don’t know how anyone could have thought the sounds were appropriate when adding them. Rochester is a great place to spend time just watching the trains come and go. Despite the disembodied human sounds it’s one of my favourite stations in TSW for comings and goings and you can wander over to look at the bridge when there’s a lull in proceedings.
Like Stu said, it’s comical how loud some of the station ambience is, hopefully that issue is looked at when (if) they overhaul passengers.
Right, I first noticed it at Rochester, but it's happening at all the stations on the SEHS suburban line. As stujoy said, who could possibly have imagined that this cacophony was a good idea? There's one young woman at Gravesend making the sound of hundreds. I've gotten to like SEHS, but this is just plain silly.
Something rude popped into my head reading about the young woman making the sound of hundreds. It’ll stay in my head though.
