It's a good route for what it is, i.e. it's been made well, the train looks great, and it does what it is supposed to do without any obvious flaws. But the subject matter, the LGV line, allows for very little variation in gameplay. It is a long route, but as in real life there is no freight, and it only has 3 stops, so there really is nothing to do but go back and forth in the TGV. I'd say even in a sale it's only really for those who like the idea of driving a TGV very fast. I have enjoyed it for that reason, but it is for sure one of the most limited routes in terms of the gameplay it offers. Edit: Actually, it does have a flaw, it's probably the most empty route in terms of passengers, outside of the scenarios there aren't any!
well technically you should buy it as it’s on sale and meets the criteria for your list but Luke8899 has stated above I have nothing to add as nail on the head. Imagine it’ll me another 6 months before the discount increases as the route only came out in Jan or Feb this year. I have it and played the route a fair bit on release but haven’t returned for a while.
Hmmm, I said I wasn’t going to buy anything new before the Rush Hour release but I have also noticed all three routes I don’t have yet have fairly attractive discounts, and I may have just added up the cost of all three to be £52 if I get them all in this sale. That’s quite a big leap from ‘Na, I don’t need any new content’ to ‘Gimme all the trains, now, right now!’ What am I like?
I might pick up the 465 for SEHS. I'm gonna hold off on HMA until the layers situation on console is made clear (if they'll be available on PS5 and on PS4 at some point).
That Clinchfield sale is very tempting, but I’m waiting to buy Cane Creek and Rush Hour. Ah well, there’s always the next sale
I love sales but I'm just a little confused by something here. I was under the impression that the Playstation Store and the Dovetail Store on Playstation were the same but I'm getting different prices for Train Sim World 2 editions depending on where I'm looking (either in Train Sim World 2020 or via the Playstation Store). Dovetail, is this a bug or a feature?
I'd really like to buy HMA for my PS5 but without the additional layers I think I'm going to wait further...
I grabbed the Class 465. Quite liking it and the sense of speed with the low windshield. Tempted to buy Clinchfield as well, but I’m not really in the historic freight mood, so I might wait for a better sale. HMA is a route I really want to have, but the missing layers always make me think it’s better to pretend the route doesn’t exist on consoles.
Most people, if not all that I know that have Arosa don't go much on it, and some regret getting it. Also I have not heard anything good about it yet.
I definitely regret purchasing it . I’ve done 1 service and it wasn’t great . I wish I’d have saved my money for hbl instead
Nice to see you’ve given it a chance though, with your one service tried. It might be worth trying some more, in different weather and some up the hill and some down the hill. If you tried it before the physics were fixed, it’s a different beast now. You might even get to like the good bits about it. You can’t possibly fully evaluate a route on one service.
That’s not good. I think I remember you posting about that before but nobody else was having the same issue. Very odd.
Yep , but my post has disappeared into the forgotten . Looks like the issue won’t be fixed anytime soon
I quite like the LGV but don’t play it solid. I dip in and out when I have a short time to play. Arosa on the other hand is not my cup of tea and that’s the one I haven’t played much. Once you get going you do very little except look at the scenery. It’s slow too. I think that’s why I like LGV because I like the speed routes. It’s such a personal choice it’s difficult to recommend to people
I picked up LGV on this sale and I'll say one thing about it; I'll definitely be getting that 10,000 miles trophy faster now.
I said I wasn’t going to buy the Diesel Legends pack because It’s the same old same old locomotives we’ve got already in other routes. Having said that I would quite like to have them on GWR without having to Senario plan them onto it which is a bit of a pain tbh. I’m determined to wait for it to come up in a sale but I admit my finger is twitching over the buy button in the PS Store.
Yes I also like LGV. It was a day on purchase for me. I don' play it a lot now but when I do play it I still enjoy it a lot. Didn't like the look of Arosa for some reason when I saw a pre release stream and thought, no not for me. So glad I did after what I have heard.
I don't regret buying LGV either, I love it When I said it it was Arosa I was referring to. Have edited my post now to make it more clear.
I got the Diesel Legends pack on release and I thoroughly enjoy driving all the trains on GWE. I have the Class 31 also so that adds some really good semi fast services as a layer. As for a twitching finger, I did what I said I might do in that earlier post and my twitching finger bought HMA, LGV and CRR a couple of hours ago. Basically three routes for the price of two. I resisted the temptation to buy all the loco DLC I want and left them for a later sale. Two of them weren’t in this sale anyway, so that was an easy thing to do. Clinchfield was always going to be a first discount buy but I’ve just been craving some more fast stuff as well, and they don’t come much faster that an ICE and a TGV, so it’s done now, no going back. Even with discounts this isn’t a cheap hobby but I get so much from it and I’m happy to keep buying DLC.
Hmmm... you appear (from my perspective) to be living in a mirror world.... because last night I also bought HMA, LGV and CRR..... ;-) And this was contrary to my plan, because I have all three of these routes in TS2012.... (Clinchfield being quite a recent DLC), and I had therefore fully intended to delay purchase for a couple of years (or not buy them at all).... Actually, I had a bit of a splurge, and also picked up Arosa Linie (which I also have in TS2012, but with a different train) and I also bought the RSN BR 363 (at full whack, with no discount)..... Both of these are quite superb driving experiences (yes, even Arosa... I think the Glasgow team actually got this DLC just right.... (except maybe for the VERY LOUD windsceen wipers....). LGV is a bit of a punt, and although I really do like the cab's atmosphere, I think that this will become an occasional "easy pleasure"..... but I might prove myself wrong. If anyone knows how to make this DLC remotely challenging, let me know.... CRR is pretty darn good in TS2012 (albeit with strange colour vegetation), so this was the hardest to justify. But the first look video by Schnauzahpowahz sealed the deal for me. And, by crikey, in just a few minutes of playing CRR it was clear that this was really always an absolute must buy. So... what caused my change in stance on TS2012 ported routes....? Well - it was three things: - the Class 465 appearance on SHS broke the principle, forcing a purchase of SHS....; - I was then massively impressed by the DB BR 101 (which re-inclined me towards HMA, and CRR for the potential physics); but finally... (and most importantly)... - I felt that the Rush Hour three pack of routes is such a good offer (....to come), that seen in the round, it was worth my while to buy these other DLCs at or near to full price anyway, and enjoy them now, because like you, I will get a lot out of them, and for many many years to come. I really can't see me buying the Legendary "New 52" though. I am waiting for DTG to do the right thing and make this pack available for free to anyone that bought the WSR Class 52 (which, in turn, in my opinion, should be given for free to anyone that bought the Legendary pack....). And I understand that this pack is bugged to death (with maybe little scope for DTG to do anything about it...?). I'd kinda like to try out the shunter stuff... but I really just can't justify supporting this DLC.... maybe at £5..... but I actually value it at about £1.50 (the 50% off discount price for the average TS2012 skin). Is there anything that you can say, to put me right, about the GWE timetable mod pack.... at a shocking £15....?
Your buying splurge included the 363 which keeps getting bumped down the list by routes that I want. I had the same thought about spending so much in one go now, knowing how much is coming in the Rush Hour bundle and how that drops the average I’ll be spending on each route overall. I like driving trains on the GWE route, which is why I like the Legends pack. If you already like the locos featured in it then it’s a good place to drive them. For the 52 it gets it out on a clear run but the fast services aren’t the star here. Although running the Class 45 or 47 is also nice on a straight full speed run it’s not as good as driving them on NTP. The Class 31 services, now fixed (but with unrealistic times to chase if sticking to the 60mph loco hauled speed limit for much of the slow lines), are good fun and have been what I’ve done the most of so far. Having a new timetable for such a good train is a great addition to TSW. It’s new life for the old beast. I think the real star though is the Class 101 with a varied timetable and it drives nicely nicely on the flat route. I haven’t done much with the 08 or the freight yet but having the light locos running up and down from the depot to Paddington is another unique feature of this route and is great to watch or drive. It’s lots of little things that add up. It’s not the busiest of timetables but there is a lot going on at the London end. You probably don’t need it just now with all your new stuff to jeep you busy but I think it’s been well worth the full price I paid, certainly better value than a few of the loco DLC I’ve bought (and that definitely includes the original 52 release), and will be even better value when it comes up in a sale.
Happy to see you folks getting a decent sale on console. I know you often draw the short straw when it comes to sales and discounts, but, looking at the prices and duration, this one seems very comparable to a typical Steam sale. Enjoy!
Dam! reading this stujoy is making my finger twitch over the PS store buy button to buy at full price even harder to resist especially with regards to the Class 101 DMU.
Decent sale on both consoles ? I wish that were the case . Unfortunately PS gets a lot more sales than Xbox - but it’s out of DTGs control when to have a sale
