Hi everyone , Today I am going to be suggesting a loco DLC for the Brighton mainline . This is the BR class 455 . 137 sets of the BR class 455 were built between 1982 and 1984 for use by southwestern and southern . Each unit consists of 4 carriages , with a train length of 81 meters . The BR class 455 weighs around 136 tonnes . The total number of seats for the southern prototype is 307 . It replaced the BR 415 , 405 , and 508 in March 1983 . These units have a maximum running speed of 75MPH . 43 of the 505 carriages built for the 455 units were reused from the BR 508 . A must have class for anything in South London from the early 80s to present. Southern only have the /8 subclass with the /7 & /9 versions ending up with South Western, the /9 I believe was built as a 3 car set with Class 508 cars inserted to make 4 car sets. Maybe a wise move would be to develop the Class 455 in parallel with Classes 210 and 317/318 as a family as they were all incredibly similar with the only real difference being power source.
100% agree with this suggestion. Considering how important the 455 is towards the London end of the BML this should not be an if but a when DTG release it. Fingers crossed we wouldn't have to wait as long as the 313!
455 317/318 are actually part of Mk3 HST Coach EMUs. To make it better why not bundle 455 For Brighton main line with 318 for Cathcart Circle as the Mk3 emu pack. Class 508 is part of PEP Family emus that are 313 ECW & Cathcart Circle Class 314.
This is correct. The Mk3 family also includes the prototype pair of Class 210 DEMUs. The Class 508 were initially used on South West London suburban services before being cut from 4 car to 3 car sets and dispatched to Merseyside to join the Class 507s which are also PEPs.
Is there actually a surviving Class 210 if so that can layer onto Tees Valley Line 1989 because original plan for Class 210s are to replace NTP TVL Class 101s alongside the other Mk3 HST Coach shell based Class 150. The proper Mark 3 multiple-unit should be 455 BML 318 Cathcart Circle 150 & 210 Tees Valley Line. Bonus for Class 150 is Great Western Mainline Paddington station to reading
There are no surviving Class 210 units. Both the 3 and 4 car were scrapped after proving too expensive to mass produce. Although planned for many areas of the UK, both of the Class 210 DEMUs spent most of their lives on Paddington area services. Following the cancellation of the Class 210 trials, the London area services went back to first generation DMUs, mainly Class 117 and 121 until 1992 and the introduction of Class 165/1. The Class 150 were never used in the London area of the GWML, instead being found further west.
