I've driven an actual V/Line "A" class which is near enough to a double ended version of the F7 with two cabs - essentially the same locomotive. Outside the train you would hear track joint noises, but inside no chance. That thing was as screamer even at low revs it was very loud in the cab. I drove it on a branch line with poor track and the only times I heard track noises were going over points at low speeds. The rest of the time, nothing.

Working in the cab of the Walker Diesel Hydraulic locomotives at the preserved railway where I volunteer I hear track noises over points and over larger gaps but these are a much smaller locomotive on 2'6" track and much quieter which you'd expect with only 500hp of power. If I open the rear facing door I can hear track noises from the carriages behind me - I can even hear the handbrake chains clinking but not much from the loco passing over track joints.

Fair enough, but in TSW these two locomotives don't produce any track joint sound when you're listening to them from the outside either. You can maybe, but just maybe hear some small rattle in the cab when going over them, but not any clacks from the outside. And even in the small rattle I'm not entirely sure, might've been just my imagination sometimes.

Outside you should hear track joint sounds and flange squeal. I notice some routes have done that really well and others not so much. You should hear the bogie bolsters rubbing too but I've only ever heard that in real life and in Run8.
