Very interesting, that this started as a private semi-amateur project that DTG decided to pick up; and that it uses "different techniques" to handle assets (this might be an improvement over DTG practice or not, we shall see).
Also interesting that it was MBTA who approached DTG and asked to be in TSW.

Great article! Keep up the good work with this stuff, it's really interesting reading how these routes come together, especially when there are people working on it who clearly have a real interest in it. NEC is definitely the route I am most eager to see.

This looks like it will be the most unique or new route of the trio, I'm really looking forward to it.

It's been a pleasure working with Dovetail over the past several months. I never imagined this project would leave my computer, but here we are!

Some keys points from this article:
    • It looks like the massive Southampton Street Yard will be featured as part of this route for storage of MBTA/Amtrak trains and for Amtrak trains to turn around once they have reached the end of the line at Boston South.
    • Single level coaches/cab car will be featured with the MBTA F40PH-3C. I would of liked to have seen double-deckers too (although, if we ever get a HSP46 add-on in the future, they will probably come with that) but it still make them the most new piece of rolling stock to come out of this entire bundle.
    Also on a side note...
I wonder from this image, are we going to get the Stoughton Branch as part of this route? If you look out heading towards Stoughton, you can see a label for where Canton Center would be and the area beyond that looks quite built up already. Furthermore, on the steam page for Rush Hour, this route supposedly 49 miles long, but the actual length of this route in real-life between Boston & Providence is more like 43 miles. The line between Canton Junction & Stoughton would add another 4 miles on this route getting it closer to the advertised length and I would presume the final 2 miles would be made up of the area around Boston and particularly Southampton Street Yard.

I'm not sure whether DTG have already confirmed that the line to Stoughton will be featured as part of this route or not, but I really hope it would help completed the MBTA Providence/Stoughton services that run on this line.

Interesting, this is the route I'll definitely be playing the most. I really hope they don't just reskin the Caltrain F40 into an MBTA livery and call it a day.

They can’t, because it’s a different length, but who know think about high entry Dostos are missing HBK :o:D

Matt has said in a stream that the F40-PH3 will be significantly reworked; while they will (sensibly) use the CalTrain CAT-2 as the starting point, the Boston version is longer, and behaves differently because it weighs more and because of the different HEP setup. Think of the relationship between the Clinchfield SD40 and the CSX SD40-2 it was based on.

Query- does anyone know if the MBTA version has Type 24 or Type 26 brakes?

Very excited for this one since it's the closest route to my house they've done so far. If you guys need someone to get pictures let me know, I'm only an hour drive from Providence and Attleboro stations.

Definitely looking forward to this. While I enjoy running some of the UK trains, nothing beats sitting in the cab of a massive American locomotive and running them at speed.

Wishing all the best to the development team!

Overall this is looking really good. My only bits of criticism so far, is the track is way to dark, and the signal colors should be updated to the new ones.

This was always going to be the highlight of Rush Hour for me, everything looks fantastic from the dev side. I think a highlight is that the article suggests they will be including AI services coming off the various other MBTA branches into South Station. That should make the area around Back Bay a properly busy section of track.

I can only hope this is just the beginning of the relationship between DTG and MBTA. The north side branches have some really interesting potential for scenery and varied traffic.

Very interesting comments that this was originally designed for TSW2020 and has a different way of working with assets. To make this compatible with TSW2 and I presume the scenario editor and livery designer will be a lot of work. Work that would equally be needed to get the TSW NEC route ported over to TSW2...I wonder if having done this they might look at that project in a different light?

This sounds like it will be a lot of fun to play. I don't know much about the German route yet, but, coupled with the BML, the Rush Hour package looks very good indeed. The fact that DTG have included 2 trains with their respective timetables makes all the difference. Plus this route is very familiar to many of us here in the US. I used to live in Maine and traveled to NYC and DC through Boston South (before Amtrak's "Downeaster" started running to North).

Rush Hour is shaping up to be a great DLC. To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy the existing American routes in the game, but this one feels refreshing and different. Coupled with Dresden-Riesa (including it’s unprecedented amount of route variations and branches) and Brighton Mainline, I cannot wait to get my hands on this release!

Very good progress so far for the new locomotives as DLC they must be Avelia Liberty and HSP-46 2021 locomotives for the route. Legends of the Northeast Corridor must be AEM-7 HHP-8 & Acela Express because those trains were used on December 14th 1999 for Electrification tests and regular services.

Lots of interesting points in the article, especially about the initial work being done on the route in someone’s spare time. It could throw up some interesting differences for the players. I’m also looking forward to driving at speed in a USA route.

Yeah so I was deployed to the Middle East in 2019 while I was in the middle of testing the TSW editor. Brought my laptop with me and did this in my spare time.

Not really a combat zone or anything...I just had no interest in going off-base too much to see the local area. So instead I'd stay in my room and work on this between shifts and sleeping

Well done story and if you're stationed in Ramstein or Wiesbaden you could have probably helped DTG do the local routes. In the case of Wiesbaden Barracks the S8/S9 Frankfurt Am Main S-Bahn lines perfectly suited for HMA DB BR420 to run on. In the case of Boston Providence it must have freight services given by SPG GP38-2 SD40-2 GP40-2 CSX local freight Boston-Providence area

The articles so far don’t mention any freight so i think it might be passenger only on release. I’d be curious if SPG adds a freight layer (although trains on the NEC need cab signals and SPG trains don’t have cab signals) Freight on this line is provided by CSX from a yard near Readville station to a branch line at Attleboro station, and by Providence and Worcester (Genesee and Wyoming subsidiary) from a branch line in Pawtucket to the seaport in Providence and they have a yard parallel to the NEC in Pawtucket.

This is looking really good. Still hoping we get a freight layer from SPG. Acela DLC hopefully sooner than later (maybe like how the 465 came out soon after SEHS).

Wonder if we'll hear about a launch date soon now that Cathcart is out.

But the GP38-2 and GP40-2 from NEC:NY did have the cab signals, right? It's been a while since I've loaded it up, so I could be wrong, but maybe it would be a chance to reintroduce the GP40-2 without having to start from scratch?

Amongst the three Rush Hours routes this is the one I am probably looking forward the most as it adds a unique and cool experience.
Great that the MBTA cab car is included! To be honest, after the 101 I was afraid that wouldn't happen.

If the Acela could be realized as well some time that would be fantastic. I'll never forget how I drove it the first time in MSTS.

There surely are worse things to do in your spare time... :)

Although it would be nice for the freight trains to have cab signaling, I’d rather have slightly incorrect freight than to have no freight at all. Especially with passenger being the focus of this route, I don’t think they need to get it 100% correct with cab signaling, and id be fine if the freight was even run by AI only if that’s all they can do.

I believe though then then the problem becomes there’s no signals at all in some places apart from the cab signaling.
