In the last Roadmap stream, Adam said that his team were not going to be building new rolling stock for the route- entirely understandably.

But would it be possible to layer in freight cars from other North American DLC like Sand Patch and Oakville? Tossing in some tank cars or container flats would certainly help the visual variety of those UP trains, which at present only get hoppers and spine-cars.

Well, the tank cars would definitely help, as those are seen on the line at the South San Francisco yard, however the rest don't really fit, no intermodal traffic is seen anywhere in the bay area, and the rest of the rolling stock that is seen there isn't in game (2 Bay covered cement hoppers, low gondolas etc)

Think you mean Centerbeam cars, not spine cars....

I would like to see it, even if it's not 100% accurate.

For me, a defining characteristic of North American freight rail is the myriad variety of rolling stock, including fallen flags. Even unit coal or oil trains often have various railroads and leasing companies represented, and seeing an all-CSX (or any other RR for that matter) manifest freight IRL is pretty darn improbable.

I made a Suggestion for Randomized Trains like that on Manifests, which can help make Layered freight cars easier to do

Add a UP GP60 or Genset Switcher and an SD70M, SD70ACe, SD70AH-T4, C45ACCTE (ES44AC), or C45AH (ET44AC) as well as the new rolling stock.

Pretty much the entire roster can be reskinned for CSX Sand Patch Grade GP60s are CSX 6800s SD70AH-T4 are 8900s CSX ET44AH 3251-3474 the Genset are 1300s CSX. This is seen in all US freight railroads ordering the Same locomotives. Bonus is that SFJ & Cane Creek gives SPG a San Jose, CA Brendel Utah transcontinental Freight Service to Port of Baltimore, MD.

The centerbeams could be the most likely, they're already there, just no services using them. So no need for layering different rolling stock, just creating one or two runs with them. But if layers were to be done... I'd like to see some use of Cane Creek locos (rare sight in the area, but one or two trains with ACs would be fine)

I'd like that as well. Just saw this yesterday:

Timestamp: 0:22 (for the impatient :))

It's probably very rare, but you can see 6-axles sometimes on SFJ.

I agree. Just the hoppers can get kinda boring at times. It would also be cool to use the centerbeam cars that can be seen along the line.

One thing to note, those are SD59MXs which are rebuilt SD60Ms. They have been popping up around here in California, and are usually assigned to local services. They are not mainline diesels.

    An SD60 isn't a mainline freight loco?

EDIT: Oh, I see. The SD59MXs have relpaced, smaller prime movers

Not really anymore, Union Pacific really only uses AC4400CWs, AC4460CWs, ES44s, ET44s, SD70Ms, SD70ACe and SD70ACE-T4 for mainline services.

Of course back in the '90s and '00s it was.

But the SD59MX is not used in that service anymore unless its being moved from yard to yard.

Last week found a UP line of stored locomotives in Tracy, CA. Alot of SD60Ms, as well as some SD70M, Dash 9s, and some SD9043MACs.

Ah, that makes sense - thank you for educating me. I was wondering why there were 2 (what I assumed at the time) mainline diesels on such a short train.

UP has always been mad for horsepower, from the days of the Challenger and Big Boy through the GTELs and the DDA40X to the AC6000CW and SD90MAC.

I definitely agree with you! And also looking on Google maps there are several industries that is completely missing from the route. And some of the industries takes boxcars and tankers even in the South San Francisco yard is completely missing several tracks that Branch off into I believe a scrap yard and several other industries
