Really looking forward to this being released later this year, as, with Aberdeen to Inverness, it’s one of two routes I’ve travelled the most by far, and so am familiar with. https://www.justtrains.net/product/highland-main-line https://www.justtrains.net/in-development/highland-main-line To whet your appetite, here’s a cab ride view of the real thing, as far as Pitlochry:
Not that I have seen, it was very primative and I remember getting some negative feedback on it. The time taken to build it was huge and it was fairly basic so I sympathise with anybody developing content be it paid for or free.
Just a news update: the page for this product has been removed from the Just Trains web site. Meanwhile, another Midland Main Line extension is up instead.
That's sad. I was rather looking forward to another Scottish route. I do hope Midland Main Line doesn't get too many extensions, we're already up to 6 pieces, which is a lot for one route, especially considering they're all dependent on on the base route + particular extensions. Compare this to the new Southwestern Expressways which is near enough the same quality but far longer for a fraction of the price.
Gutted about this - still no lines for the north east of Scotland. Heard it was a lockdown project so it was dropped - no idea why? Would be lovely one day to have the Inverness to Edinburgh/Glasgow and Inverness to Aberdeen....
I finally got an idea during a live stream. Apparently Google Maps quality is so trash in the area that it was impossible to do a proper build job. I did find two or three trips along the route, though, and I'm wondering whether someone in the UK could in fact just go for a couple of drives taking video if they get permission to put a camera in the cab (unlikely) to help kick this project back off.
Extremely Unlikely You will be taking the pictures with your own camera thru the glass from the Passenger compartment Even if you did find a Cab Ride on Youtube that would show you the track layout and signals Most of that information is available in books - Like the Scottish Track Map It does not show gradients and the height of the track and roads
It's a fast route mostly single line. The signalling will need to be bulletproof. My experience of Ts20xx signalling is thats its awful. Routes such as the Kyle and West Highland got away with it to some degree as they are quiet. The Mallaig extension had Decent RETB although I could never get scenarios created. Open Rails and Zusi 3 have better signalling as does TSW2 to a certain degree.
Video125 do cab view videos for both Perth to Inverness and Aberdeen to Inverness. Okay there are bits missing, but still relatively thorough... Highland Main Line (video125.com) Aberdeen to Inverness (video125.com)
Looking at cab rides on YouTube, I see there's a decent Inverness to Aberdeen one uploaded last summer:
