Good article. I like the fact railway workers are shown at the station in their hi vis clothing. Hoping we see more of that! :) Looking forward to the day when we have engineers working at the side of the track and you have to slow down and sound the horn as you pass... that would at a lot more depth to the game.

No you can't literally sit, I mean just stand still :) Sometimes I do just like to have the game on in the background and railfan while i work :)

Well, how did you manage that? For me, Cathcart always means I'm driving a ghost train, barely any passengers on and no one entering or leaving the train. I hope the new passengers will improve that :)

You always have been able to “sit” at a station. Technically sit, no. If you toggle the crouch button next to a bench and not move you could “sit” at a station as well!

I absolutely agree about the Rail workers in their Orange jumpsuits! I can still recall the first time seeing these fellows when ECW released at the end of a scenario. Such a small thing but it’s amazing how impactful it can be! Since then we have seen these Rail workers making an appearance every now and then and it’s always a positive. Very happy to see them again!

Not new, it existed in GWE, but the feature got lost in development somehow.

This article has made me even more excited for Rush Hour. A fascinating read.

While RH is a separate add-on, will future passenger routes take advantage of the some of the features from it regarding passengers and more AI trains in general eventually? Forgive me if I have missed anything.

Music to my ears. This sounds brilliant, looking forward to the RH routes.

Like to idea of having diaramas at stations, probably at Gatwick will be most effective with luggage

Why can't I sit on the seats available at the stations?I've often wished that goes and you could then switch to an outside perspective. :(

There was a lot of talk about many people at the stations, but do they all get on the train, so you will also have fully loaded trains? And if so, does that also affect the weight of the train?

An Amtrak northeast regional is usually 6 coaches and a cafe, with each coach sitting around 84 people. If the train is fully loaded(using the average North American person weight of 180lbs), a fully loaded train adds about 90,720 lbs of weight to the train. That’s still less than adding even one more amfleet so I doubt it would affect the feel of the train much at all. (Amfeets are around 101,000-113,000 lbs each)

Yes, TSW accounts for passenger weight

Yes you should find more people boarding trains, and you should already find the weight being affected (press esc and you can see the weight of your train - try it a few times as you go and have seen people get on and off and you'll see this changes). Does that weight change have much impact on your experience? not that much really. People just aren't that heavy and trains just are that powerful :) But it IS being taken into account.

It must be a complete coincidence don't know how I done it, train was full almost all the way to Newton, standing passengers and everything never seen anything like it on TSW :)

What about when there is train slip? Would a full train have less slip than a half full one for example?

The added weight of people is negligible compared to the power of the train

On a dry track yes. But Matt said you can see the difference in weight when passengers get on and off so surely a train would slip less with a full train of passengers no?

Yes but even on a fully loaded train(Amtrak in my example above) the weight of the passengers is only 1/8th that of all the cars combined, and with a locomotive that has 8400 hp, that shouldn’t mean a thing.

*I should mention I have no real world experience running trains so I wouldn’t know for sure, but it seems impossible that some getting on and off each station would have any noticeable effect on how the train handles.

Oh right. I suppose so when you think about it. I wonder if trains like the class 121 this would make a difference?

So, from watching the stream I found it interesting regarding passenger noise level at stations. However, what would be really good for immersion is having voices being heard while on the train, especially if busy, rather than people sitting in silence.

That reminds me of one or two TS routes or scenarios where passengers can be heard coughing and sneezing. This, of course, would not be appropriate in the present situation. :)

Or, as I frequently find on American commuter trains, people talking loudly into their phones, as if the whole world was interested in their conversation. Very annoying. I wonder if this is a worldwide phenomenon. It's gotten so bad that the railroads now have "quiet cars" where cell phone use is forbidden.
    Anyway, sorry to go off-topic.

In Japan it is very frowned upon and viewed as rude to be on your phone on the train.

In fact you can be ticketed if they want. They usually just politely tell you and point to the signs. Probably because its usually tourists.

Oh.. Looks like I forgot to post my question again, lol.

It was: "On the next gen consoles, will the passenger amount increase so that it fits with PC". No need to answer, I've already scrolled up and got the answer. :)

Probably worldwide not Japan though, lol. What used to annoy me is those bluetooth headsets that fitted in one ear so it they didn't need their phone out and it made them look mad, lol. The times when people thought they were addressing them only for them to turn their backs and continue rambling.

When I was disporting myself as a tobacconist I was irked by customers who would obliviously jabber away on their headset phones throughout, conducting the register transaction by dumbshow while yakking on oblivious.

Cellphones represent the death and final end of manners.

No argument here. I remember when Mobiles first took off and the need for Nokia mobile covers, if only they knew then what a pest these things have become, mind you, that probably would not have stopped then.

I feel people (mostly office goers) who commute using metro/subway systems typically use their phones a lot more, whereas people who are train enthusiasts/people of older age do not use their phones an awful lot. Since I'm a rail enthisiast, I barely touch my phone, even when I took a 12 hour journey by train once.

They say it's because of the work first mentality going on. Now that we are connected 24/7 people just don't seem to stop.

And thats funny because Japan has had a work first mentality for a long time. And they don't use their phones on the train.

    So the theory contradicts itself.

In Japan, following a series of suicides and mental illness, there is a very strong law prohibiting harassing an employee outside of working hours. similarly, it has recently been in France where a call to an employee outside working hours is punished

Watching cat videos and catching up with the sports scores isn't exactly "work first."

Anyone on a train serious about work is on a laptop.
