DB628 could you stop tagging Matt in every single of your posts? That's quite overreaching! Go to the suggestions forum und suggest there your Shunter.

Given I've got my RL second person re-exam coming up shortly, a big YES to this idea. Getting examined periodically is a regular part of the footplate and would be great to have in game. Especially if the person told you as you got in that you're going to be examined today. It would be a really interesting career type of thing.

    Here's a thought.
We have the start stop tutorials

What about a scenario where you are being examined to be signed off
One to retest your skills etc

We have been asking for this for a long time now, we have wanted better tutorials teach us how to use the safety systems. This is the closet we can get for now.

This is perhaps the most important thing.
I remember a set of scenarios in Horseshoe Curve where you started out as a rookie engineer and had to complete several tasks before becoming a "champ". The final run ended with a fireworks display. Great fun!
Another scenario in HC involved a fire and the need to move wagons out of harm's way.

A short note to the requester of a full cold start scenario. A full cold start, for example, of the AC4400CW, if all systems are modeled, would take around 30 minutes (10 minutes just for the SDIS or IFDs). More or less the average length of a DTG scenario. That is why that loco is fitted with an auto-stop (AESS) system to reduce the need for shut-down and cold-starting on layovers.

They could also just shorten it so that the startup process only takes 5 minutes or whatever - it's not like the train breaking is realistic either for long freight

Well I've just watched some youtubers playing the route. Overall things look quite good but a couple concerning points:
-Pantograph/OLE: Someone has gone and attached the overhead lines to the bottoms of every bridge on the route but hasn't bothered to get the heights right so your pantograph flies up and down and sometimes loses contact with the wire entirely. How on earth no one raised this in testing is beyond me, but hopefully Brandon has more sense and will place things properly.
-Station signs: bit disappointing to see what look like placeholder platform signs at some stations, I saw them at South Attleboro and Canton Center for sure, I really hope these could be improved with the update.
-Framerate drops: I'll hold off judgement on this until I see it for myself since recording video could always make frame rates look worse.

So, was watching one of the independent pre-release streams

So, on Cathcart, signals finally turned green before we had to close the doors. It still felt really scripted, but it was better than only turning green after we closed the doors. Seems like this is immediately forgotten again, and we are back to the same procedure as before, signals will only turn green once we closed the doors, very sad to see that :(

Along with the British ace .mega sim is also a ambassador for dtg that's why he has a pre release version.

The only thing that I thought looked off were the empty level crossings.
Surely there would be the occasional car or pickup.
    Just a little life/local colour.

Not just here but also the one at Gillingham on SEHS.

Man the CTC cab has to be the most depressing place on the planet. There's no way that isn't completely freezing all the time during the winter.
Enjoying Boston Sprinter as an expat masshole.

I've just gone through the tutorials so far. One thing I've noticed is the sudden track speed limit change from 60 to 30 when you divert onto another track. Even with cab signalling enabled etc there's no warning for the upcoming sudden speed limit change

Can you provide a location where this happens?

If this is happening at Read or Hebronville interlockings, then I know what's going on.

This isn't subject to this route only, I've experienced this on other routes as well, such as RRO

It was just before South Attleboro going onto the 3rd line. It's in the CTC-3 and ACS-64 tutorials. Just gone through the ACS-64 again and managed it fine. I either didn't enable the safety features or I just didn't pay attention!

It's still a sudden change in speed though for those who avoid using the safety systems

    Here's my con list
-Wrong catenary (Understand a fix is in the works)
-I find the Amtrak LED headlights are way too bright.
-No Cruise control feature on the ACS-64

However i am enjoying the route. I hope to see some sort of MBTA bi level car or an Acela in the near future. That would really brighten the variety occurring in Boston South Station. :)

So there is a permanent speed restriction of 30MPH on that curve east of South Attleboro (Hebronville interlocking) on track 4. The home signal at Hebronville in your current build is set to 60MPH for that route, but it should be 45MPH. I changed that value in the editor the other day so that fix will come with the catenary patch. As for the drop to 30MPH, that's a combination of route knowledge and ACSES enforcement. ACSES will definitely throw a fit if you are about to violate that 30MPH restriction.

So in short, switching to track 4 is a 45mph movement but the curve right after the movement is 30mph. Hope that makes sense.

Catenary: That's the one fix we know for sure is coming " within weeks".
Headlights: Can't be too bright for me, given the problems in CRR.
Cruise Control: Major, major omission in the Sprinter.

I saw a vid and it appeared that the speed dramitcally changed once you go onto the stoughton branch but tbh this game always dramatically changes the speed without warning. Leeds/Manchester when you veer left @ the beginning is a good example.

    First impressions - very nice.
One thing, where is the manual located becuase I'm trying to understand the signalling/in cab signalling etc for the route. I prefer max realism!

Little glitch I noticed. JUst before Stoughton the cars drive through the road and it looks like the assets overlap or something. Like the road is raised. Screenshot (93).png Screenshot (93).png Screenshot (94).png

Very good so far though I still hate the fact that you have to open/close doors when it is not the drivers job.

That's exactly what Searchlight's AC4400CW does, there's also aircraft in flight simulators that do that in similar situations. Just because it's a simulator doesn't mean you have to make everything one to one, for something like that it makes sense to abridge it. Fact is no one who's paid to do this stuff is thrilled to spend 30 minutes doing nothing, gonna be equally true when we're talking about hobbyists that do it for fun. Besides, true cold starts aren't done super often anyways, they're usually at least left in a state that they can be brought back online in a couple of minutes.

Let me finish that for you. There is no manual because DTG expects some users to make the manual for them free of charge.

I have a name in my head that I'm sure that can make a great manual, even pretty sure he is gonna do it because he has done other manuals before, but I do not think this is the way to do things for a company that earns money from selling a game.

Now I've had the chance to play the route I'm quite pleased overall, clear that a lot of work has gone in (and continues to go into) making the route look good. Only things that stand out to me are the catenary and some small scenery issues which Brandon has already said he's clearing up so jobs done there. I still would love to see more detailed platform signs down the road. Some of the high level platforms not having stair or ramp access is a bit baffling but not inherently game-breaking.
Also, it seems to me that platform stopping points are a bit off especially southbound. Often the stopping point has the locomotive occupying the whole of the high level platform which rather defeats the whole point. If you spent all this time creating a system so the trap doors are actually modelled correctly, why on earth wouldn't you show it off?

I honestly have no idea what I'm doing with ACSES. I'm constantly being hit with brake penalties with next to no warning for 60-30mph reductions. Does it seriously expect me to reduce the speed by 30mph in 5 seconds ?

Acknowledge the warning and then set the brake to "Suppression" until your speed goes below the required limit.
You can take as long as you want to get to the required speed, but the brake has to be set to "Suppression".

Apparently you are supposed to find it somewhere in the middle of the "release" stream, where Matt explained it today.
It will only take you 1h30min to watch it all.

Indeed. It's a remarkable omission and spoils what is otherwise an excellent loco model. It would be like the BR 101 without AFB. It's especially disappointing on a route like Boston-Providence which has long stretches of straight track at constant speed with only 2 or 3 station stops.
