Ecml Berwick To Edinburgh

    This is the modern version of my original 1990s suggestion. The route from Berwick to Edinburgh is one of the most scenic in the UK. This is because for most of the duration it runs along the coast and also there is a beautiful view of Edinburgh as you enter. The stations are Berwick upon Tweed, Dunbar, drem, longniddry, prestonpans, wallyford, musselburgh and Edinburgh Waverley. The route takes around 45 mins to complete on a high speed run. To and increase the distance I am including the north Berwick branch.

    The class 800 is rapidly becoming the dominant high speed train in the UK it is a fascinating train and it is part of the Hitachi a-train family. I believe it is by mode but please correct me if I'm wrong. These trains have a maximum speed of 140mph and a maxim service speed of 125 mph. [​IMG]
    The class 91 was built in the 1990s for the ecml and is an icon but sadly are slowly being scrapped. These have the same speed as the azumas.

    Finally the 385 can operate local services out of Edinburgh Waverley they have a top speed of 100 mph.

    if it has a Bit of scot rail does that mean the Class 314 from Cathcart can layer in?
    and 385 can layer to Cathcart?

    Cathcart is set in 2014 before the 385's And the 314s were scrapped in 2019 after withdrawal

    No, sadly.

    314s never made it this far east, and the Cathcart is in 2014, way before the 385s.

    I'd really like to see this one day - it'd be better if it went to Newcastle but that's a bit long for TSW atm. Great suggestion :)

    Great suggestion, I would love to see this route :)
    The majority of LNER trains are Class 801 (42 to be exact) which is only electric, but they do have 23 Class 800 trains which are bi-mode and do run on this part of the line frequently :) Also they still have 7 InterCity 225 sets (Class 91+Mk4+DVT) still in service

    That is far too long and never going to happen but you can dream. Besides who has the time to drive a train for 4 and 1/2 hours

    I reckon that would be brilliant. Although, as far as i know about the ECML is that Berwick is a bit like Grantham in terms of service numbers. In essence, alot of trains go fast through there and only a few stop. Still, its the right length and with the right trains it has the potential to go far.

    I think it would be better if this route went from Newcastle to Edinburgh, because there are lots of services that don't stop at Berwick-upon-Tweed, whilst all services stop at Newcastle.

    I just thought that Newcastle to Edinburgh was far too long for tsw2 and Berwick is still served by a service every hour in each direction

    It is quite a long distance, however, there are very few stations along the route, which means it wouldn't take that long to make.
