With Nat saying the core update will come Thursday same time as the first of the Rush Hour routes, this will be large.

So in order to play Boston Providence, i have to wait for a ~180+GB Download to complete?
The route releases on thursday but becomes playable on friday, except you dont own a lot of DLC.
    This will be large indeed.

Some people, including myself, are simply uninstalling all our DLCs and will redownload them once the update's done, although it primarily saves it hogging hard drive space.

It's annoying it's coming on Thursday as I'd already uninstalled all my DLCs in preparation for it coming today. Oh well :D

If you're lucky it maybe playable on Friday, but I suspect probably not until Saturday.

Won't re-downloading them with their updates take just as much or even more time time as leaving them in place? I'm not criticizing, just inquiring.

Yes, but you can postpone to a time that is convenient and till you actually want to play those routes again.

I noticed that steam compresses the updates really well. In the past, I have had it download around 10Gigs for a 18 Gig game. Maybe this will also be compressed and won't be that bad.

If you're on console, it does sound a bit complicated. But, if you're on PC and have a decent amount of drive space, it's a tempest in a teapot. I'll just let it all run like grease through a goose, wait a few hours then cash in my season ticket. :)

Yeah but you can postpone it to when is convenient, it also means you can start playing the base game quicker (therefore you could get Boston and play it on Thursday without fear of issues, of course assuming the update comes before Boston launches.

The primary benefit is that it doesn't mean the game is hogging your hard drive - it's likely the TSW install will take up at least twice as much room on the disk while it's downloading, which is space I've recently realised I suddenly don't have (this is normally not much of an issue when it's just a couple DLCs updating), whereas uninstalling the DLC and then redownloading it only takes up the amount of space it did before - and if the Epic version seems anything to go by, it may even take up less space (not sure if the DLCs are smaller but the base game is about half the size on the disk as the one on Steam).

If your download speed is fast (>= 100 mpbs) then it might be faster to uninstall the game and reinstall since Steam likes to really compress the updates which might take longer time to unpack and install than just downloading the whole game again.

I removed all the dlcs to free up space because on past experience it isn't the downloading that takes ages it is the installing. Given that every file has to be updated i'd rather remove them all and redownload them to save it swapping everything around and changing files.

I’ll probably just uninstall as I think it will be faster to be honest (and clean)

I uninstalled the whole of TSW2 via the "manage- uninstall" option in the Steam Library list having saved the engine.ini. It did it so quickly I thought it must have left loads of residual files but did not find any. Was my method of uninstallation good enough ? Or is there something further I should do ?

Unlike TS1 and many other games, TSW DLCs are simply one large file, so all it needs to do is remove that file.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the DOZENS of mods I have in there as well need to be trashed, correct (as they all need to be re-cooked for 4.26)?

I just backed them all up in a super-compressed RAR file for safe keeping. Sheesh, even with max compression, I had over a gig of mods installed in the sim...

It's probably not worth doing that because as you said they all need to be recooked for 4.26. The other alternative is to use the mod manager to deactivate them and I believe it will notify you when your mods receive an update (I've never used it up until now as I didn't have too many mods to look after.....but it sounds like this would be something useful for you)

I should be ready for this - we just went through this crap with SU5 on FS2020. That update broke SO many mods...

Although this was touched upon in the stream today, I am still left with a few questions regarding the whole update. It was mentioned that the releases will be staggered throughout the same day, so I was wondering how exactly would this look like?

    - Will the process look the same throughout all platforms?
    - On some platforms, DLCs are usually available for purchase at midnight. If the update is staggered, will this create a situation where I can buy Boston Sprinter without having updated first? Won't this cause issues?

I was a bit confused with this as well. I figured pushing out the 4.26 update 2 days before the 1st RH route would have caused less issues seeing as though the update had a 2 day lead time.

I think delaying the update was more due to the complexities of the consoles and migrating between generations rather than Steam which is a bit more straightforward. If that was the case though, why not push out the Steam update today ?

They answered it on the stream. I think I’m part because they didn’t want to do half and half which I understand. Pc doesn’t buy us any privileges and rightly so, secondly I think with all the moving parts they want it to be right for us which is correct too

I didn't understand the reason given, if I was worried about 2 updates being released in the wrong order I would much prefer them to be 2 separate days rather than both the same day. Just seems logical.

I also un-checked all my DLC (I have it all) until post-update. Then I can still play the 3 "original" routes (Sand Patch being the only true original) and upload the updated DLC as others have stated above. If the update breaks the game, I have TSW 2020 on standby.

So, release was pushed back 48 hours to allow everything to get pushed at the same time, and now we're told its coming tomorrow, at all different times :D

There seems to be something odd happening in relation to this mornings DTG Announcement as now its turned midnight in Australia a few Australian TSW2 streamers who are not ambassadors for DTG have managed to purchase their rush hour at midnight their time but its locked. So this doesnt tally with what Nat said this morning. I can only assume it will unlock later in the day once the core update has been pushed out.

I have a feeling the update may come mid afternoon-ish (UK), and then Boston will land a few hours later.

I'm in Australia and I have no 4.26 update or Boston route available to purchase yet. I think it is available on the consoles though

Wouldn't it be the same size if you kept your DLC that sounds risking uninstalling everything I think it would be overwritten since its an update and not a new game just saying

In the end it will be, but while it's downloading, the original files will still be there, so it'll inflate the install size to at least twice its existing size during that period, and my hard drive simply doesn't have the space for it. Progress etc is saved ebcause it's tied to the game profile, not the install of the route.

The new version should actually be smaller as the file compression is better under 4.26.

PS always get everything slightly before Steam/Xbox (and I presume now Epic); it's just how the PS store updates across the regions
