Is there another way to get to the rear locos in the SD40 services on Sand Patch to set them up correctly that doesn't involve spending 15 minutes at the start running to the other end of the train, constantly cancelling "Do you want to give up control" messages? Ctrl+ handily swaps me between the two cabs up front that I can physically walk between in a matter of seconds, but getting to the rear ones? Forget about it. That's all on foot, and takes an absolute age, and woe betide anyone who forgets to flip the radio fuse or something and only finds out 30m later when they start rolling back down the hill as it hits the 1.5 incline and the dead weight of two locos at the back overcomes their engines. It's so frustrating watching all the PC tutorial videos where a single button lets them hop over there, configure everything and double check it's all working, then hop back and fix it if they missed anything.
I haven't found a better way to do this manually, and I just wanted to do this today so I could set the headlight on the rear DPU to dim. I don't think DTG ever bothered to implement Ctrl- on console. However, it seems that most of the time, just turning on Banking Comm in the lead cab seems to configure the rear units correctly enough for them to provide power.
I've yet to find a single service where I didn't need to go all the way to the back and reconfigure the third loco. You can generally tell when several minutes after turning banking comms on, you're still at 3mph while furiously sanding.
Playing on PC, I use camera 3 to look through side window of rear loco(s). Open the window to get in close, then you can see and more crucially, operate the controls and circuit breakers. Even works when on the move as long as you're not in a tunnel. Don't know if it works on Xbox though.
